Just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went? I am about ten days in and coping well so far.

I have been low carbing for years on and off, and on 5:2 since Sept which seems to make the fasting easier.

After my night out on Saturday I seem to have gained 2 pounds. But looking back at previous day's weigh ins I do seem to gain on a Monday so I'm hoping the vodkas (many) haven't done too much damage.

On a plus side for me, in my delicate state yesterday, I was madly craving carbs. I may have had a little cry to my husband about wanting pizza. But I stayed strong and stuck to the plan.

Laska5772 · 14/03/2016 21:58

I spent an hour this evening rootling through my wardrobe trying on things that didnt fit a month ago..and also some summer clothes that I couldnt wear on holiday last summer.. Lots do fit now!!

I recommend it .. so motivating.. and those that dont fit still ,, seem much more acheivable now.. (thinks of the lovely Laura Ashley red linen trousers bought 3 summers ago and which have never fitted since... I will wear them on holiday this year )

Laska5772 · 14/03/2016 22:00

Well done for not caving zobalina !! Hopefully those 2 will be off in a day or so

BTW I was still 10.11.5 this morning! Grin

H3l3naGraham · 14/03/2016 22:09

Thank you Laska, sorry, am tired today, need to pull socks up. Yes, long-term weight loss does take time & the correct mind-set, it didn't land on my hips, tum & bum overnight & it won't go overnight either; as MM says, the older the fat the tougher it is to shift. So I shall chant "out damned fat" as I go to bed tonight and thank my lucky stars that my new jeans fit me they are a size 16 (RESULT!!) and to be honest they are even a bit too big!! : )

yumyumpoppycat · 14/03/2016 22:29

H you lost a stone doing sirt, if the authors are right then you have also gained some secret muscle to be revealed when you lose more weight, plus who knows where you will be after 6 weeks on BSD, you have a stone head start!

not2be at least the calories aren't too high so you can't have gone too overboard which is a good thing in itself.

My 8 weeks are up on Thu, I achieved my initial goal of 10% weight loss (dp challenged us both to lose 10 in 10 weeks and we both got it done early!) I have a new mini goal for thu (fingers crossed) then I am having 5 days of healthy eating and no calorie counting! Prob back to 800 for a bit after that as still a good bit to lose and a hol coming up.

Obs2016 · 15/03/2016 06:39

H3graham, don't be sad Sad
Christ on a bike, you have nothing to feel bad about! I lost a stone. You have too.
I didn't post my weight thing, to make anyone feel bad. It's hard when you read stuff about others, especially if they are tiny and struggle to put on weight!! And I appreciate that it's hard when you yourself are at a particular stone and are reading people talking about their stone goal and its 3/4/5 less than yours. But don't take it to heart! You have done very well, and will continue to.

I am a type 1 diabetic, since aged 1. They put me on a no protein diet, I think, at aged 6-8' because it was the done thing at the time. I didn't grow for 2 years. In the end my mum told them she was taking me off it and stormed out of diabetic clinic. And then I started to grow.

I am very short! Do you have any idea how much I would love to be a few inches taller? I'm about as wide as I am tall!! My ugly hobbit feet are also abut as wide as they are long! Believe you me, you have nothing to be jealous of re me!!
better? Wink

Obs2016 · 15/03/2016 06:50

Because I'm very short, I don't carry weight very well. If you are 5'11" you carry it a bit better than a 5'1" er!!! I have thunder things. My thighs are very round. It's hard to describe. I am exactly the same shape as my mum: big boobs, tiny waist, huge hips, big thighs.
And remember when I said at my slimmest, I actually looked ill - I still had mahoosive thighs then , proportionally. In summer, my thighs often rub together and when I was 17 and doing a year abroad, they often bled when I was in turkey, Greece Egypt and Israel.
Ain't nothing exciting about being small, and having thunder thighs, let me tell you!!!

Not2bObvious · 15/03/2016 07:10

Ahh the thunder thighs, got me a pair of them as well! Talc is my friend on hot holidays 😉
So my 4 weeks is completed today and I'm back to my lowest weight so 4 weeks ago today I was 12.2.6, today I'm 11.6.8 - under 11.7 for the first time in around 1.5 years! I will still WI tomorrow in case there's any further drop but not if I misbehave tonight😁 I'm calling that 10 pound as I reckon I've a few grams of..ahem..waste still in the body. I'm really happy with that, have to try on a few bits this morning, what I like to call my real size 12 wardrobe, fitted capris from oasis that are definitely not vanity 12's. Hoping they fit as I haven't worn them in so long they'll feel like new clothes! Going to a get together late afternoon so I have to dress nice today. Feeling slim but a bit yucky after my eat fest last night, a warning of what life's like with the forbidden foods taken yep chips, white toast Lunch has been prepped and it's good bsd fare! What a great 4 weeks, hope I can take it to the next level, here's to shifting the next 7 pounds and being 10'something!!!

Obs2016 · 15/03/2016 07:36

Well done not2!!

Sputnik · 15/03/2016 07:42

Seems like we started on the same day Not2be.
Weigh in this morning and I am 4kg down on my start weight, I am very happy! This despite only doing 2:5 and a week or so after I hurt my ankle when I eased off and didn't lose anything much, as well as not being able to walk for 2 weeks (still can only hobble). I've got my parents arriving tomorrow and we'll be off travelling, but will try not to go crazy, my appetite seems to have gone way down, so I hope that will help.

I think those of us at the heavier end are possibly a bit shyer about revealing actual weight, I know I am! To get to my interim goal weight I'm looking at summer holidays, and to reach my ideal weight, if I ever make it, would be pretty much a year away.

Yddraigoldragon · 15/03/2016 08:01

Whoop! Had my Hba1c result yesterday and it is superb! Well happy! Not sure if this means I am not diabetic any more but I am off the meds! I am easing back into diet now to see if I can kickstart some more weight loss.

Not2bObvious · 15/03/2016 08:37

Thanks obs! Well done sputnik, thems great numbers. Put it this way, the year could pass and you could still be the same weight, with doing this you won't. No need for anyone to confess weight if they don't want to. I do it here but not in RL, especially since all my friends are teeny. I had someone tell me their wife was distraught at having to wear a size 12 Hmm While I'm only short of wearing my clothes inside out if that's on the label!
Fab news Y, now that's progress 😉

Sputnik · 15/03/2016 09:14

Yddraigoldragon that is fantastic!

In the end it is the health aspect that is key here, so for me it's less about looking great on my 50th birthday (nearly a year away), than safeguarding my health. Looking better would of course be a huge bonus though!

I feel it's achievable though because really I am finding the 800cals fairly easy.

H3l3naGraham · 15/03/2016 10:50

What wonderful emails - what a great group of lovely dieters you all are, with brilliant results!!

Yep, I'm with you not2bobvious - if I get to a 14 (a good size for me) I shall wear my clothes inside out too!!!

yddraigoldragon that is wonderful news, you must be positively skipping around with joy, am happy for you!!

Back in the right mind frame this morning :)

H3l3naGraham · 15/03/2016 10:59

Just tried on a pair of zippy black legging/tregging type things I bought in ancient times - they never fitted me but I hung on to them.... They are a bit too big, just cut the labels off......

RESULT!!!!!

I have lunch with an old friend today, but am determined to eat fish & veggies as I am now totally refocused !

Not2bObvious · 15/03/2016 11:25

Oh brilliant H3l! That's a perfect nsv, new clothes to wear and feel good in. Enjoy your catch up with your friend, my mottos for meeting up's these days is its about the friendship not the food. I used to obsess about what I could eat, what excuses I'd make for not having this or that. Now I pick the best thing I can find, snap the menu shut & start guzzling the water!

ScoutandAtticus · 15/03/2016 11:56

H3l3naGraham I am 13 stone and 2lbs Blush

That's amazing Yddraigoldragon - you must be delighted.

Yesterday was a write-off. I suffer from insomnia which decided to make an appearance on Sunday night. I could not stop eating carbs all day. Rather than just give up, I will try again.

I like to weigh in every 3rd day which will be tomorrow. I am still going to do that but don't expect any loss given my wobble day and I am due on next week. I have started recording everything on MFP which has focussed and eating a bit more normally rather than just the recipes from the book. I find it all a bit faffy so I am trying to adapt family meals a bit more and then try recipes a few times a week. The kids are having fish and chips tonight and I am just having the fish.

I have until now, not been thinking about drinks. I live off coffee with a splash of milk all day. Not good I know. I was shocked to see thats 25 cals per drink! I have put on 2 stone in the last few years which coincides with my coffee habit. Now I know why!

GlindatheFairy · 15/03/2016 12:06

How long do you have to eat 800 calories a day for? What is the maintenance like?

Even on 1200 calories I've only kept it up for a week or so, felt wretched then had a binge and given up. I think the least I could eat, sustainably, is 1600 cals. I hate recording, counting and weighing though or generally having to think about preparing food too much or eating differently from everyone else. I did 5:2 for a while, successfully, a couple of years ago but couldn't sustain it into a full-time WOH job. I did WW years ago successfully but find that weighing, measuring and recording is just something I can't do these days, and any "eat what you like out of these foods until you are full" plan is doomed to fail as I just stuff my face.

Obs2016 · 15/03/2016 13:52

Well done ydragon!!
I am not due to see my diabetic consultant till mid May, but I am expecting to be impressed (and her!!) with my hba1c then!!

HanYOLO · 15/03/2016 16:04

H3l3na I ma heavier than you, but I'm not going to admit how much - trying not to focus on it! Happy to be 4kg lighter than I was a fortnight ago though!

I am HUNGRY today. I haven't been hungry for the last week really but today I really am. Just had a raw carrot and some peanut butter to tide me over till supper. I ate breakfast today - (for the past few days I've had coffee, herbal tea and yoga till @ 12.30/1) - I wonder if that is what it is.

H3l3naGraham · 15/03/2016 16:28

Hello ScoutandAtticus, Not2beObvious &Obs2016 & HanYOLO yep, I got the message, we all have ups & downs, bad days, good days, it's the long term we all need to focus on, thank you and 1st is an achievement!!

Whereas I possibly ..probably did have a glass too much this lunchtime, I don't think I was too naughty, I had grilled salmon with lentils, a side order of broccoli, some rather ropey cheese & celery & half a cup of cappuccino - that's my lot today, asides from an apple about 6PM. Not brilliant but hey, I didn't do the pizza, nor fish & chips & I had to walk a mile to get there & a mile back.

No awards, but feel if I can reject a greasy, carb-full menu when it's bleeding freezing, then I stand a chance in the warmer days to come.

PS DH Told me my legs are looking good & he thinks this is a good indicator of my diet working :)

Sputnik · 15/03/2016 19:51

HanYolo I always find I get hungrier if I eat breakfast so usually skip it nowadays, coffee gets me through the late morning when I usually feel a bit hungry, I usually eat after 2.

Glinda there are several options for the BSD, take a look here
I have found doing 800 cals oddly easy, there is so little leeway I find that once I've decided what to have I can forget about food, because there's no thinking can I have this, can I have that: I can't. I think most of us have been hungry the first few days, but then you get used to it. Then when you start seeing results very, very quickly it's extremely motivating. I do 800 cals during the week and take weekends off, but try to stick within the general guidelines and I anyway find I'm having smaller portions because I feel full.

H3l3naGraham · 15/03/2016 20:10

Am watching Mary Berry make Hot Cross Buns & watching all that sugar go into the bowl & with a golden syrup glaze I can truthfully say no way do I fancy eating these, honest!

yumyumpoppycat · 15/03/2016 20:11

I have found the 800 better than 1200 too Glinda, I think it forces you to make healthier choices and eat more low cal veg and filling fat and protein etc, whereas with 1200 it is kind of possible to fit in choccie bars, graze all day etc which can screw up the whole day and lead to 'binges'. The other thing is if you do go over the 800 1200 feels like a lot !! Another possibility is that some of us might go into ketosis on 800 cals if keeping carbs low and then start burning fat for energy which means less hunger? I am rubbish at the science so ight be wrong. {throws pinches of salt around}

Star for the great NSVs today! Yddraigoldragon totally amazing you are off the meds and H fab about your trousers!

HanYOLO · 15/03/2016 20:36

How do you know if you are in ketosis? Can you feel it?

Are there any reasons why you should try not to be? (I know I could google that, sorry to be needy)
