5:2 :- 2 years on .. Backsliders and Rescinders: Recommit with me..

Laska42 · 21/07/2014 18:14

Hi there, Im one of the 'old original' 5:2ers who started way back in August 2012 and lost 24lbs..

I maintained for over a year and was active on the Maintainers thread , but sadly since last summer/Autumn, ive backslid.. Now I'm 12lbs up off my lowest weight again Sad

I know what to do , I know it works , but I can hardly say I should be on the 'maintainers' again. So im posting a new thread here , in the hope that I may find some other backsliders willing to recommit along with me before it's too late ..

Come and join me again before its too late.. We can regroup and get back on track.. I'm still managing to squeeze into my sz 10s (mostly) but I cant afford a new wardrobe, I dont want to buy a larger one.. and I certainly do want to get back to what I was (and maybe finish the job properly with another half stone off , so I can rejoin the Maintainers and comfortably say that this WOE is really this time going to stay with me for life..

So anyone with me? .. I have fasted today (first one for ages) .. WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!!

Glad your better laska.

Hope your FD went well not2b and all who fasted today.

I'm still the same as last week. 9.13 so didn't fast as I was sulking!

Will try and get one in this week, but I'm not feeling it at all tbh.

Not2bObvious · 05/08/2014 19:30

Thanks guys, it's so great to know I'm not alone. I just got on with it, fasted til 2pm and then had eggs/nectarine (not together in case anyone thinks it's a fat burning combo Wink) and then a small spag Bol for dinner. Possibly a bit over 500 but a massive improvement on the last few weeks. I also managed a brisk walk at lunchtime, aiming to run in the morning. I'm going nfd tomorrow and then another FD Thursday. I'm taking the approach that I had 10 days holidays that'll probably take 10 days fasting to get over Grin 5 weeks from now, I'll be back on track. No mad heroics, no mental extremes, just:
2 x fd's - Monday/Thursday
3 x tdee minus 20% - Tuesday, Wednesday, Sunday
1 x tdee - Friday
1 x tdee + 20% - Saturday

  • 2 litres of water, brisk walks, jogs/runs, Jillian Michaels here & there. Wow, that does sound ambitious lol!
PiesnThighs · 05/08/2014 22:02

Glad you're feeling better Laska :)

Choc, I started fasting today, and then found myself with a 3 scoop ice cream cone on the beach late in the a afternoon.... Then pizza... Red wine.... Oh dear! So, shall we try again tomorrow? Hope you sleep better tonight :)

PiesnThighs · 05/08/2014 22:03

Sorry Choc, it wasn't you who didn't sleep well! (Red wine haze)

PiesnThighs · 05/08/2014 22:04

Sorry Choc, it wasn't you who didn't sleep well! (Red wine haze)

Chocupid · 06/08/2014 16:56

Yes it was me pies I'm not fasting today already eaten, but may try a low cal day ready for tomorow .

Laska42 · 06/08/2014 20:32

Mmm... 3 scoop ice cream.. especially the ones made here buy our local ice cream maker (Minghellas).. drools ..however theres about 300 cals in ONE scoop of theirs ),, Hope yours wasnt quite that calorific pies

Back to work and ive been STARVING all day.. (shows i'm better then) However although i wasnt fasting ive been fairly good, eggs for breakfast sliced chicken half a pot of coleslaw and some H/g cherry toms for lunch.. dinner was more cold chicken courgettes and more tomatoes .. (Ah, but writing this down i then just realised I was not so good.. scoffed three slices of leerdammer cheese when i got in before cooking dinner ) ..

FD tomorrow though!

Evening all. I'll be joining you Laska tomorrow in fasting. Nfd today and hit my target of 20% under tdee. Bit hungry now and also a bit scared about fasting til lunch tomorrow, as it'll be 18 hours since my last bite, boy oh boy if I'm hungry nowConfused I'm kinda on a buzz though, 2 days of decent self control. Just hoping my gut goes down soon, flip all clothes fitSad
Anyway else weighing in every day? I'm trying to control my urge for scales hopping but was thinking a WI after fd2 might be a good gauge? Any opinions?

Laska42 · 06/08/2014 22:06

well done Not2b

However , when we were first doing it , i think we decided that it may not be a good idea to go to bed hungry the night before a fast especially for those starting ot getting back into it after a lapse of a while ...I'm not trying to scupper you, but if you are hungry now and a bit scared of tomorrow. (if i can give a bit of advice) i'd say have a milky drink (if you can take them) before bed tonight - skimmed milk is fine, options choc maybe? if you have one?..then you will sleep well and be ready to do a full day tomorrow.

I know you want to get back into it fast , but maybe you just need to ease in a bit ,if you are starting again,, I notice you are doing TDEE -20% today ..

Can I (with friendly intent) suggest you take it a little easy just until you get back into the swing of it?.. Dr M suggested that NFDs should be eat 'normally' and o' the TDEE bit we sort of worked on ourselves as we went along (he didnt suggest it) .

I know you said 'no mad extremes' . I just think you will have more long term success if you start off easier for a week or so and build up to your plan ...

Its what im doing .. (ok this week has beena bit weird I know but thats just because of being sick) ..

Just a thought.. you know your body ..

Thanks Laska Flowers you're right, just getting a bit carried away in desperation - just v low with nothing fitting and every time I see my face I think it looks like a big pasty moon! Oh how did it creep back so sneakily Sad
Anyway, cup of galaxy hot choc with a dash of milk to cool it in hand, that'll help me sleep and give me a lining for the morning. Maybe a skinny cappuchino when I get to work. I have 2 really nice meals planned for tomorrow, it'll be likely closer to 600 cals but that's still good. Thanks againWink

Chocupid · 06/08/2014 22:41

I'll be fasting with you all tomorrow.
Good plan not2b to weigh after 2nd FD especially if like me you need to see results for motivation!

Couldn't fast today I was too hungry after 2 gym classes,
I exercise mon, wed, frid and sat

Although I find exercise helps pass the time on a FD I struggle with hunger...
So was wondering if fasting would be easier on a non exercise day, ie tues and thurs
(especially as your meant to eat or drink protein for muscle recovery soon after)
Any opinions on fasting on workout days.... What do you all do?

Not2bObvious · 07/08/2014 07:54

Chopid when I was full speed 5:2 I could do a run the morning of an FD or JM workout, but I couldn't manage anything later than after straight after wake up, wouldn't have the energy for more than a brisk walk. I think I could manage it first thing cause I still had energy stores from the nfd. To be honest I think fasting on non exercise days might be safer, and easier! It would give you the best chance of getting successful fd's in and that's the main thing. Don't think there's any great evidence to prove exercising fasting will speed anything up greatly? Good luck guys for today, just had a cup of tea and painted my names to keep my mind of morning hunger pangs, which I don't have, thanks for the milky drink advice last night L
Another trick I remembered for fd's, if possible, where slim'ish fitting clothes and try to look nice, then it's like a vanity incentive to stay on track. Shallow as a paddling pool me Wink

Chocupid · 07/08/2014 10:44

I'm a morning exerciser too, there's sooo many excuses I could make not to do it if I had to do evening!

Like the tip on skinny clothes for FDs not2b I will try it... Won't be hard as everything is tight at the mo...

Good luck today all, I'm feeling determined as I haven't had a successful Thursday fast in sooo long!

Breadandwine · 07/08/2014 16:43

Hi guys!

Been watching this thread with interest - and a great deal of sympathy! Flowers

I'd just like to say that the one thing none of us should do if we've put on a bit of weight is to step away from these threads!

No one will judge you on here - instead you'll get sympathy and support. If you keep away it's a bit like burying your head in the sand and the weight will most likely increase.

And bear in mind that if you do put on weight - it's what we're pre-programmed to do! We've always feasted when food has been in abundance, to give us reserves for when famine strikes. Trouble is, in this day and age - other things being equal - we never encounter famine!

So don't beat yourself up about it, OK? Grin Just stay on these threads and share!

Kettlebells:
Inspired by BC et al on the exercise thread I asked for a 3kg kettlebell for last Christmas. I upgraded to 6kg in April, and this morning I bought a 9kg one. I'd recommend them for anyone everyone! Grin

I never thought that at my late age I could put on muscle! But I can - and I am. And if I can do it, anyone can!

Chocupid · 07/08/2014 18:10

Thanks for the words of wisdom breadandwine it's so true and part of the reason I put nearly a stone back on!

I'm with you on the 'kettlebells' i do a class at the gym I love it...
I've just swapped my 4 for a 6kg and it was hard so well done you for the upgrade to a 9kg!
there's a girl in our class who does it with 10 and 12s and there's nothing of her... Confused

Not2bObvious · 07/08/2014 18:46

Thanks for the encouragement B&W, I'll have to trust you on the kettle bells though, nearly took my tv out with one! Home DVD with lots of fluid movements, but it my hands it was more like a weaponGrin Lost control one to many times so for the sake of my furniture or low lying kiddies, I retired from kettle bell work outs lol!
Completed FD2 at 580 cals, big bowl of delicious thai basil chicken, no rice, to finish the day out. Just need to keep busy and then tomorrow I feast, well feast to the tune of around 1600 cals - I see a nice fillet steak in my future with a cheeky glass of red! How's the other Thursdays fd'ers doing?

Laska42 · 07/08/2014 21:43

hello breadandwine nice to see you here!

quite a good day today , havent overeaten but to be honest my heart hasnt really been in to fasting .. perhaps in still getting over the tummy bug as I just ate when i was hungry again.. so probably start next week again now

Ill not be around now probably until Monday (unless i get a short spare mo) have DGS (19months) down for weekend tomorrow (without his mum -we ve had him stay before on his own so he should be fine ) ..Looking forward to having a baby all to myself again!!..

Quick me me me. - down 2.6lbs after 2nd FD, as we all know it works!!! Happy Friday y'all xxx

Chocupid · 10/08/2014 10:43

Wow not2b that's great, week done you, Great motivation to keep going eh.

I didn't manage Thursday yet again, I did well all day didn't eat, and had ready meal planned for tea, then DH picks me up from work to take me out to dinner, I love him but he's such a feeder I'm surprised I'm not 16stone!

He's not working at the mo so he's bored maybe when he gets another job it will be easier for me, I sometimes wish he worked away all week Grin

So will try again tomorow, meanwhile I feel like I'm getting bigger, I need to get back on track, maybe I should start some of this decorating I have to do to keep me busy.

Hope you all have a nice weekend!

Not2bObvious · 10/08/2014 15:09

Thanks Chocupid, sorry your Thursday went a bit awry but I bet you were still under tdee if you hadn't eaten all day so you did no damage. All you need is one good day under your belt and it'll be fine. I've had a pretty relaxed weekend but not completely lose the plot relaxed like the last few months have been. Put in 2 x jogs of around 30 mins each, plus a good bit if busyness added in. FD planned for tomorrow, super/stupid busy which is the key to a decent FD.
Anyone else up for a Monday fast?

plecofjustice · 11/08/2014 11:40

Fasting and ravenous!!! I'm mainlining coffee and water to get over the hump, but I'm just counting minutes until I can legitimately go buy some lunch!

Breadandwine · 11/08/2014 12:30

You can do it, justice!

(See what I did there? Grin )

Chocupid · 11/08/2014 12:54

I'm with you justice let's hang on and get one under the belt today, we'll be glad we did tomorrow!

Saving cals for dinner but may have a bovril around 2 to take the edge off.

Not2bObvious · 11/08/2014 13:29

Delighted others are suffering with meGrin
Fish cake and salad snaffled between meetings(c.220 cals with a mandarin to try mask smell of fish, no mints dammit)
Soo busy, dinner won't be til about 6.30. Tried on a pair of trews I could button last week, I can button them now but it won't stay closed, but that's a little progress rightConfused
Chins up Mondays fd'ers, halfway there!
