Hi there, Im one of the 'old original' 5:2ers who started way back in August 2012 and lost 24lbs..

I maintained for over a year and was active on the Maintainers thread , but sadly since last summer/Autumn, ive backslid.. Now I'm 12lbs up off my lowest weight again Sad

I know what to do , I know it works , but I can hardly say I should be on the 'maintainers' again. So im posting a new thread here , in the hope that I may find some other backsliders willing to recommit along with me before it's too late ..

Come and join me again before its too late.. We can regroup and get back on track.. I'm still managing to squeeze into my sz 10s (mostly) but I cant afford a new wardrobe, I dont want to buy a larger one.. and I certainly do want to get back to what I was (and maybe finish the job properly with another half stone off , so I can rejoin the Maintainers and comfortably say that this WOE is really this time going to stay with me for life..

So anyone with me? .. I have fasted today (first one for ages) .. WE CAN DO IT AGAIN!!

FD. So far so good. I can do this, I can do this....

Well done mayhew and dotty!

Dotty342kids · 09/01/2015 11:06

wow mayhew that's an incredible loss! That's just since New Year's Day? 11lbs? Blooming heck Smile Please do share your secrets!

And runlikeagirl, yes, you definitely can Grin

buffersandbumpers · 10/01/2015 16:30

Well done mayhew! That's amazing!
FD yesterday. Went slightly over but have lost just over 1kg in a week so pretty happy. Finding it so much easier on MFP, especially the NFD.
Doing loads of exercise too so hoping for a change...

CoolCadbury · 11/01/2015 11:47

Hello everyone, I think I briefly popped up on this thread a few months back and disappeared again. I used to be sotired, notastired and then bouncyfun. Well, I am back properly this time.

I start my first fast day on Tuesday. I have been eating 3 square meals a day and no snacks for about 10 days and lost 2 lbs just doing that. I currently weigh 8 st 8 lbs. I am 4ft 10" and I want to get down to 8 st in the first instance. The lightest I have been is 7st 9. Exercise is a problem due to my bad back, knee and ankle Sad - I fell quite badly when I lost consciousness due to a virus when I already had a bad back Hmm. Anyway, I am off the heavy duty painkillers and feeling strong enough to do Pilates.

It's good to see a few familiar names - I don't feel as bad that I put the weight back on. Right, off to sort out a MFP profile. Smile

TheHoneyBadger · 11/01/2015 13:22

i remember you as sotired coolcadbury - i was swallowedAfly then if that helps. sorry to hear about the run of bad luck with your back x

pretty damn chilly in egypt and still not feeling hungry for more than one meal a day and am definitely moving more than i was at home so fingers crossed i will come home lighter than i came and i'd already lost 5lbs ish over christmas period due to illness and lack of appetite so combining that should have me back in the right stone bracket one should hope.

not going to count calories or do official fasts whilst here. i am effectively getting the fasts simply by not wanting to eat anything other than black coffee, water and ciggies till late in the day and i'm not fussing about whether at the end of that i consume 500 or 1500 cals as given it's everyday at the minute that's deficit enough i hope. for me at the minute it's more about my body/brain/the whole shebang resetting itself in a way that's sustainable for 'it'. it's obvious but still shocking how quickly one can pile weight on and how seemingly slowly it comes back off again when that madness stage has passed.

anyhow i wish everyone positivity and self care and respect and comfort in their own skin and enough genuine peace and happiness that they don't have to try create it through eating shit xx

CoolCadbury · 12/01/2015 18:51

Oh yes, I remember you as swallowedafly Smile.

Tomorrow is the big day - my first fast in months.

Is anyone watching the Horizon programme tonight about diets: "What's the Right Diet for You?"

Dotty342kids · 13/01/2015 10:48

Welcome back coolCadbury, nice to see you and doesn't sound as though you have too much to lose and have made a good start Smile

honeybadger sorry to hear that you've not got the hot weather with you yet! Hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday

I've not seen the Horizon programme yet though may watch it on Iplayer later. Was it good?

I knew this weekend would be a food disaster and it was (plus the wine)! Unhelpfully, my scales are misbehaving this morning so depending which reading I believe, I'm either the same as Friday, 2lbs heavier, or 3lbs heavier.
Whatever the real reading, today's a FD and I've got last week's home made soup back out of the freezer for dinner Grin

CoolCadbury · 13/01/2015 12:51

Thanks Dotty. How is your fast going today? Tummy is grumbling away here but so far so good. I may have a bowl of some at around 4 and then Cajun spiced chicken with salad for tonight. What I am finding hard is concentrating on my work - I'm doing it but it's taking me ages!

I completely forgot about the Horizon programme. Blush

Dotty342kids · 13/01/2015 14:51

it's going ok. Just had a glass of diet coke which normally helps me through a FD afternoon!
Going to watch the Horizon thing later on tonight I think Smile
Your food plans sound nice - enjoy!

TheHoneyBadger · 15/01/2015 07:08

hi hope it's going well for everyone. i'm getting a bit desperate to stand on some scales and get a clue of my weight! i don't suppose i'd trust them anyway realistically.

hard to have a clue as none of my 'usual' clothes with me.

Dotty342kids · 15/01/2015 09:09

I'd say to enjoy respite from the dreaded scales. Easier said than done though, I know Grin

Dotty342kids · 19/01/2015 14:56

Blimey, what's happened to everyone? It's so quiet here!
Fasting today after an ok weekend. Not great but hopefully not too terrible either Smile

Annoyingly the batteries in my scales have run out but actually, that is probably a good thing really. Suspect there'll be happier news from later in the week than there would have been today!

TheHoneyBadger · 20/01/2015 04:11

i'm still checking in dotty but see it's quiet and don't want to talk to myself Smile

still no scale check here but definitely moving more and eating less daily and getting some 'fasts' in so in theory the scales should reflect that when i get home. i think i can feel/see a bit of a difference but we shall see.

good luck to everyone, tough time of year but if you can push on through with it as this time you get to reap the rewards come spring/summer when you're pulling out the summer wardrobe.

CoolCadbury · 20/01/2015 12:00

Hi, I'm still here as well Smile

Only managed one fast last week but still l lost 1lb and have kept it off. I am on a FD today and hopefully Friday.

I never did manage to watch that programme but I did the crude questionnaire on the website and apparently, my ideal weight loss method should be intermittent fasting. Grin

Dotty342kids · 20/01/2015 12:28

Mine too! That's a relief.
Not quite sure where I'm at weight wise as scales were playing up last week, have replaced battery today and now they won't work at all!

FD yesterday. Fine till teatime then spectacularly sabotaged myself with the contents of the kitchen all through the evening Angry

Having a healthy, sensible NFD today which should see me well under TDEE. Next FD planned for Thursday.

CoolCadbury · 20/01/2015 22:19

It was an okay fast. I think in the end it was more like 650 calories.

Dotty hope today went well and Thursday is successful.

TheHoneyBadger · 21/01/2015 07:41

hi everyone good luck for fders and nfders alike.

i 'think' i can see a change in the constitution of my belly if that makes sense (no scales available). it is looser and more mobile as if the fat is breaking down or as if the solid fat underneath (visceral?) is gone and this is just the subcutaneous stuff left wobbling about. this 'could' be my imagination Grin but fingers crossed things feel different.

i am definitely not eating too much, not counting calories but feel totally confident i'm not eating much, i am having alcohol but not vast amounts and i am definitely moving a lot more plus the yoga practice and generally being much more mindful of my body and posture which in itself has helped in the past as you just start using your muscle groups properly which someone makes all the difference with me.

will be interesting to see what the scales say about it.

Dotty342kids · 21/01/2015 11:06

Honeybadger I know exactly what you mean Smile. It's one of the things I noticed when I originally did 5:2 - the belly was very much still there, but it was much softer and less solid! Well done for getting to that stage and hope your holiday is proving the relaxing, getting your head straight, break that you'd been hoping for.

I've just ordered these scales as mine have officially died. Rather excited / terrified about discovering my body fat percentage but if you don't know it, you can't do anything about it eh?

CoolCadbury · 23/01/2015 18:38

mmm, this thread is very quiet and I'm a bit scared to go back into the general thread.

Hope your fast was successful dotty. Just finished my dinner of chicken with ginger and lime on a bed of salad followed by pudding of 2 squares of chocolate. Yum.

honeybadger how long are you out there for?

TheHoneyBadger · 24/01/2015 07:23

well done on your fast coolC. we fly back next thursday night - 3wks total but feels like we've had a long time strangely, not in a bad way but it just hasn't had that 'oh god it's flown by' panicky edge that you sometimes have when you get away.

try the other thread. i started posting on both for a while but found this was the place for me. be busier over there i'd think.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/01/2015 08:56

Fd today. First in months. Am fat.
Anyone else?
Hi dotty and honey

TheHoneyBadger · 24/01/2015 09:11

hi realA good luck today. my mission for today is to avoid drinking shots of vodka with young friends down from cairo. i am not in my 20's on a wild weekend away from work and parents! my head is foggy and my mouth is furry - not good Grin

am fat too if that helps?! Wink

i'm eating once a day in the evening and occasionally skipping if i don't feel like it or just having a light snack instead of the meal and that has to do for now rather than proper fasts - hoping that ongoingly with increased activity is better (for me, for now) than the fasting but the scales will tell for sure when i get home).

what's the plan amanda? are you a planner for fast days or just wing it?

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/01/2015 09:24

I have to plan. Just trying to avoid food really. Have had an apple.
Might have another later.

trendytoes · 24/01/2015 10:05

Hello everyone
I've only just started 5:2. Im on my third week. I find the fast days ok I can stick to 500 calories, but I'm confused about the non fast days. I think I may be eating too much. Is there any kind of guide to roughly how many calories I should be eating on those days? Thank you! Sorry if this is a really obvious question. I've been looking at the other threads but can't find the answer.

CoolCadbury · 25/01/2015 11:15

Hi trendytoes. You can eat up to your TDEE calories on your non fast days. TDEE is basically the energy/calories you need to maintain your weight. By eating up to your TDEE you are making sure that you are maintaining the calorie deficit from your fast days. If you eat more calories than TDEE then you are "eating" into your calorie deficit from your fast days. Does that make sense?

Google TDEE calculator to work it out, but try a few calculators as they tend to come up different - I then used the average.
