@vites Does she have a summer training break? DD was the same, but we had a month break from training the summer she was 12 due to pool issues and I figured 4 weeks was close enough!

vites · 18/07/2025 15:45

@turkeyboots yes but we usually train through but for a two week holiday. 4 weeks would be doable. Thanks

itsgettingweird · 18/07/2025 15:48

Some places have said 2 weeks to other people.

Hellocatshome · 18/07/2025 18:21

@vites I am in no way advocating this as a course of action but DS took absolutely no time off after getting his piercing and his swimming included sea swimming and lake swimming. He used the cleaning solution immediately before and after and all was fine (apart from being in a lot of trouble from me) So I think 6 weeks is probably not strictly necessary. A few weeks off and then rigorous cleaning will probably be ok. Apparently if you get them pierced by a tattooist/piercing place with a needle rather than a gun the healing is quicker.

Sigh, the annual argument surrounding ear piercings is ongoing rn in our household. My dd is adamant she wants it done than wobbles when I mention 6 weeks off swimming. Has anyone had to deal with this?

I don’t know when dd will ever get it done now that she’s 12 and swimming has taken over our lives!

We have agreed to ear piercing at the start of the 2 week break from swimming this year! Then we hope it'll be fine as the summer schedule is only 4 hours in the pool a week. Ear lobe piercings aren't that complicated to heal, and the pool water is chlorinated.

Porseb · 18/07/2025 19:43

I asked my DD (currently has 5 ear piercings) & she said you don’t need time off but to be careful with swim cap if it’s bearing down on the ears as it could get irritated and infected.

Glittertwins · 18/07/2025 20:51

I have multiple piercings as does one DC and neither of us took time out of the pool. I probably would have left a day or two before open water, just because of the duck poo in the water but I never do that anyway. Six weeks is ridiculously excessive in my opinion.

Teateaandmoretea · 19/07/2025 07:45

Both of my DDs have pierced ears they just aren’t allowed to swim the same day or that’s what we were told anyway. No issues at all with it and swam as normal from day after.

I did say to dd1 it maybe wasn’t a good idea to have her seconds done the day before she was swimming in county championships though 😂😂

itsgettingweird · 21/07/2025 08:17

How’s everyone doing?

good swim by ds yesterday glitter . There’s a lot of discontent about that being a double age group due to low numbers of 18yo.

Do you think we’d have had more if the ages had been separate?

Glittertwins · 21/07/2025 19:22

Yesterday wasn’t toooo bad. Today on the other hand can only be described as bloody awful!!
It’s not the lack of 18s that is the issue. It’s the fact that there is a full contingent of both yet only half the number of places in the finals - British Swimming are happy to take our money for entries with 24 places available (ex distance) per age group but then only have 10 places in the finals rather than 20.

itsgettingweird · 22/07/2025 05:44

First race here wasn’t too bad but 400 is suffering with loss of leg muscle!

100 today so 🤞 that won’t go too badly.

Are you done now? Have next 3 days back to back!

Glittertwins · 22/07/2025 12:45

Back on Friday, hope he recovers!

OP posts:
itsgettingweird · 22/07/2025 13:37

We are staying up Friday as he wants to watch OW on Saturday as so many team mates competing.

🤞 weather improves as I live either valley lakes but won’t be the best in the rain!!

Glittertwins · 24/07/2025 19:00

Looks like your recovered on that 50! DS says well done 😀

itsgettingweird · 24/07/2025 20:28

Thanks. That was actually an exciting race to watch as lots of them now going 26.
not that I could see much other than legs and arms from the end of the lane 😂

Madcats · 25/07/2025 06:51

DD had her first ear piercings done during the fortnight summer break (at a tattoo piercing place that has been around for years). For her seconds I think she just had them done over a weekend (so a few days before training).

Good luck to those still competing in the champs.

itsgettingweird · 25/07/2025 07:35

Good luck to Ds today glitter. Hope he’s refreshed during his few days off.

Hellocatshome · 25/07/2025 18:14

Well done all the swimmers at GB and good luck for any doing English or Open Water.

Does anyone know how long it takes for a change to ranked club to be reflected on swimmingresults website?

itsgettingweird · 25/07/2025 19:18

I didn’t think it took that long but might take longer this time of year?

Glittertwins · 26/07/2025 07:57

Sadly it was dreadful. Honestly don’t know what’s happened to go backwards by over 2 years. A week to forget most definitely!

Changing club on the systems should only take a couple of days. I seem to remember that the OLD club has to do something, though.

DH is membership secretary so - if he registers someone they still appear as under the old club until the old club lapse you because you can be a member of more than one club. In many cases they actually won’t bother until they have to pay the membership fee again (Feb) so it has the potential to take months. If you are lapsed it should be immediate.

Presumably the situation is your DS really doesn’t want to be listed under his other club?

Barbeasty · 26/07/2025 08:35

Changing your ranked club should be really quick, and I have a feeling you can do it yourself in OMS.

The way Swim England works for fee paying club is harder. It will be the club you have been a member of for longest. And the old club has to lapse your membership for you to be removed from them.

But I’ve always found the SE membership / renewals team to be really helpful and responsive, so it might be worth contacting them.

Teateaandmoretea · 26/07/2025 08:59

I think Barbeasty is right btw and you can action it yourself, I was going to ask DH when he gets back from morning swimming how to do this.

Eccle80 · 26/07/2025 09:17

Yes you should be able to change it in OMS. If you log in with his membership number, go to Edit details then click on the clubs tab, you can select ranked club on there.

As Teateaandmoretea says though he will still appear under the old club as well until they lapse him.
