Yes, I will take consistently warm over spending hours exposed to the elements on the side of a muddy pitch. And then having to deal with the muddy kit...
Our Monday night pool is in a centre with lots of pitches next to it: I always feel pretty smug walking past them at this time of year with all the parents huddled like penguins along the sidelines in the lashing rain and cold 😬

turkeyboots · 06/12/2024 10:23

My DDs friend used to ice skate in the same centre as the pool. We'd meet them coming out from her patch session with her coach at 4am dressed for an hour in a freezer! I thought swimming was bad until I learnt all about ice skating.
And the ice rink was handy to drop into on gala day when the pool was even hotter than usual.

@itsgettingweird - he beat the incredible 14 yr old on the 200m but flipping heck he's just done amazing 1500m! We're in awe of him - 14 and that time

That's his best. I haven't checked the times yet or watched back the swimmers from our club. I'm going to catch it later. Well done for 200m. Hopefully getting back into the lace of it after the few months of juggling exams and training etc?!

itsgettingweird · 06/12/2024 15:45

Oh wow - just checked time 😳

Glittertwins · 06/12/2024 16:08

I hope he can keep going and not burn out, he's a talent. Could be interesting to see if another long standing record that was beaten (400m free) just yesterday will fall to him next year - I'd not rule it out!

Funnily enough I said the same thing last night. The kids watched his final at training and we watched it in the spectators area.

Welsh nationals have just been cancelled due to the weather in Swansea ☹️

They don't have much luck do they I'm sure there was a problem last year as well.

Glittertwins · 06/12/2024 18:18

The boom got stuck there and Cardiff? There is a possibility of them being able to race Sunday but weather dependent.

Oh no. We had a swimmer go down there and they were at the last one that got cancelled. 😞

Glittertwins · 06/12/2024 18:44

Hopefully they raced today

I know they were racing 3 days. Can't remember which ones though!

Glittertwins · 07/12/2024 19:28

All back home with a mug of tea and biscuits from the bakery by the pool. Not a bad end to racing 😊

our L3 was cancelled 😔

Glittertwins · 07/12/2024 20:10

Fairly uneventful drive home. Just 2 idiots right near where I needed to exit the motorway, how the car didn't rear end the one in front to my right is a mystery to me but fortunately we were off before anything else could happen

That bakery is fab!!!! (I can't eat anything as GF) but ds always has the roll meal deal when he competes there!

Hope he's happy with his weeks racing.

We've had our L3 today. Quite windy on the island!!! Especially the bridge getting onto it!!!!

Glittertwins · 08/12/2024 07:01

He was very happy with the last one!

As well he should be!!!!

Ds managed to do a classic ds yesterday. It's a massive conundrum but he can never (and I mean never!) race a 200m free quicker than he swims the split in his 400m free 🧐😂

He was quite close to his LC split time (seconds) so will be interesting to see how his 400 goes this afternoon. Whether he's just tired generally or if he can pull out a blinder on his 400 like he has the last 2 SC attempts at it?! 👀

Glittertwins · 08/12/2024 09:58

That's funny! Wonder if he is overthinking the 200m and he just needs to just go out and race from the off instead of pacing it like he probably is for the 400?

Hope no one is affected by these storms!

my dd is wondering if to shave her legs for competitions, she has very light faint hairs and doesn’t bother shaving normally as you can’t see them but is wondering if it might help her times by not doing so . Anyone know anything more on this?!

Glittertwins · 08/12/2024 17:35

No it's not going to make the slightest bit of difference at her age and probably level for swimming. Virtually most of the boys at winter nationals didn't either.

Very unlikely to make any difference. DS shaves his armpits but I think he would even if he wasn't a swimmer as he has sensory issues and can't cope with the feeling. He doesn't shave his legs though and I don't know any of the boys that do even those swimming at Nationals.

Hellocatshome · 08/12/2024 20:21

Has anyone's child had results that aren't theirs go onto rankings? DS swam on the 17th/18th November and the times went onto rankings fine. Today the same times have been put onto rankings again for the same days but at a gala 200 miles away that he most certainly was not at 🙈

I would think if they’re faint and soft she’s quite young so it wouldn’t make much difference.

My DS uses hair removal cream on his for major meets. (And under arms) Not winter ones though. I’ve no idea how much it makes a physical difference or a psychological one!
