Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

Slow but sure. After nearly killing myself with a 6 miler last week I have settled for a comfortable 2.5 miles 4 times a week. I'm getting there. It is a bit depressing when you think I was considering a half marathon this time last year Still..... I am going to make like the tortoise not the hare! I am quite old after all

hatwoman · 31/05/2010 17:38

hi everyone,

glad to see you're all still here and all still running. Twink - it's good you have somewhere peaceful and beautiful. I hope you and family are doing ok. MoshiMoshi - hope you're ok too. and Orm - tortoise not hare is wise.

I've been building up slowly - am beginning to understand that whole "listening to your body" thing. though I don't always like what it says. looking back I know I went badly wrong in Feb when I tried to get straight back into it after being unwell. so i've had a few weeks of pretty short runs - twice a week. up to 3 times now - getting towards 15 miles a week. really want to increase but don't want to over do it.

I've done 2 fell races - one today was awful! the worst uphill I've ever done - my calves were killing me. But it could be because we went for a 4 hour walk yesterday - again up some pretty savage hills. hope so. it wa a great view from the top though. good ay?

MrsWednesday · 31/05/2010 19:27

It is v frustrating when you've had a certain level of fitness and have to work your way slowly back up to it again! Slow and steady is definitely the way forward (but boring...)

It has taken me a good three weeks to get over my half marathon but finally feel less heavy-legged and am enjoying getting out and about in the local countryside.

Love the photo Hat! We were here today:

Ilkley Moor but was just an hour's meander with the kids not a savage 4 hour hike.

Twink, I'm glad Mr T is somewhere beautiful and close to you.

Master, you sound like an expert yourself, sprinting up and down hills at altitude in the heat! According to Runner's World interval training, fartleks etc are the key to increasing speed.

Glad injuries are healing - hope it continues and we can all enjoy the freedom and peace of running outside in the summer . Had one of those happy runs the other day, only 5 miles but it was a beautiful evening, saw a man catching a fish in the river, swans nesting by the canal etc - it was glorious.

hatwoman · 31/05/2010 21:14

gorgeous Mrs W - I don't know Ilkley Moor - but definitely the kind of scenery I love

Twink · 31/05/2010 22:37

Thanks all, this photo's not quite as impressive but hopefully it'll work!

Themasterandmargaritas · 01/06/2010 18:32

Oh what beautiful pictures of England. I feel quite homesick.

this is where I ran today.

MrsWednesday · 01/06/2010 21:52

Beautiful spot Twink.

Intrigued by your picture Master, apparently I'm forbidden to see it!

Have just pre-registered for next year's Edinburgh Marathon.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/06/2010 22:06

Well Twink, I am doing a couple of pretty big hills over the next two days. Skiddaw tomorrow and Catbells on Wednesday but I shan't be running - I'll just be grateful to get up to the top and have a view. We did Helvellyn at Easter and it was a whiteout at the top.

That's a lovely spot Twink.

Where's your hill hat?

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 01/06/2010 22:08

Oh tomorrow is Wednesday; that's Catbells Thursday then

hatwoman · 01/06/2010 22:52

saggar - it's Win Hill near Bamford, in the Peak District. The reservoir at the bottom is where the dam busters practised. (thought I'd throw in some useless trivia)

OrmRenewed · 02/06/2010 08:11

Well if we're showing photos

on my favourite run Haven't done it since March as it's 21k but am working up to it. Master - you still here in July?

Themasterandmargaritas · 02/06/2010 08:35

Orm. Yep back around 24 July for two weeks, but NO babysitter, how am I going to manage to run with you?

Did you sell the house?

popsycal · 02/06/2010 08:56

been keeping a lowprofile for a variety of reasons

did a very rubbish 5mile run on monday - cant believe how slow and how much of a struggle it was

about to head out for 30 minutes shortly

and I am giving up alcohol for a while in a bid to reignite my motivation

OP posts:
OrmRenewed · 02/06/2010 09:13

No not yet master. Still plugging away.

Sorry you won't make it for a run though

OrmRenewed · 02/06/2010 09:14

Can you bring the DC and leave them with DH and my three? How old are they?

Themasterandmargaritas · 03/06/2010 08:11

Great idea Orm if you think your lot would cope as mine are quite small, 8,6 and 3. But very very well behaved

hatwoman · 03/06/2010 13:25

look everyone: q and a with Liz Yelling

popsycal · 03/06/2010 19:41

e t opinions on mizuno wave shoes here as an entry level shoe for dh with high arches?

OP posts:
popsycal · 03/06/2010 19:44

or saucony progrid[

OP posts:
Twink · 03/06/2010 20:03

Does he have wide feet too? I have high arches and very wide feet, can't get on with Mizuno but have had Saucony's quite a few times and got away with them (although faves are New Balance wide fit)

popsycal · 03/06/2010 20:06

nedoes and toes that rise quite high if that makes sense

hi all - just popped in to say I did a 5-mile pb this morning . sort of. for some reason the dog was being incredibly slow - and I kept having to stop and wait for him (I paused my stop-watch), meaning I got a few short rests. still pleased though - as it's a difficult route. hope you're all ok

Wheelybug · 04/06/2010 15:38

Lovely pics everyone. Twink - MrT's spot looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing.

Keeping running here - distances stretching out a bit and feeling like I can do more, managing to do evening running with half term here although that means 8.30 pm but makes me feel virtuous .

Any recommendations on running watches - foot pod and heart rate monitor type. My bro tells me Garmin FR60 is one to go with but thought I'd check with the experts .

sfxmum · 04/06/2010 18:49

hello everyone just quick post to keep this on active - need the inspiration

will read through and look at the pics hope everyone is well
