Our thread has got too big.

Iwill start this one with two things:

Positive vibes for the exciting developments on the MN Marathon Relay thread and

Early ballot for GNR 2010 - you know you want to:)

Belle hope it went well

have not been out yet at least it stopped raining

about running, before dd I used to run on the treadmill as part of the gym workout about 4X a week, after dd, 5 in June, it all went pear shaped, I started the 5k training when she was about 10months and it went pretty quickly, the went back to work for a few months, left work, depression, started running again on/off for the next few years always keeping to 3-5 miles
now feeling more goal orientated so who knows,
running is free and makes me feel better and fitter so that is a good thing

happy running all

sanfairyann · 27/02/2010 20:04

legs are killing - did an hour's run today - longest I've ever done. did about 5 1/2 miles - is that reasonable or pretty slow? faster than walking in any case

MoshiMoshi · 28/02/2010 21:32

Hello one and all. Sorry been absent. Been busy planning memorial service back home for dad. Trying to re-establish normality too which is easier said than done but things are gradually moving on. Played my first game of hockey in fifteen years this weekend and am in serious pain! I clearly am lacking match fitness which is depressing as it means any skills I may have once had are a bit useless as I flounder around the pitch unable to keep up with the young things whizzing up and down that I am meant to be marking. Running very slowly coming back into the frame but have focused on pilates since damaging my SI joint and can confirm it has done the world of good. pops will certainly need to reduce pledge to more like 15k to be realistic and avoid doing myself an injury. Am determined to get back to running and match fitness in an injury- free and sensible manner!

Happy running one and all. Power to the pounding.

PS cannot remember who it is but please please please get the ITBFS seen to by a physiotherapist and deal with the cause and not just the symptom by using a roller. Otherwise, the problem will return or worsen and be more difficult to get rid of. I overpronate which can exacerbate problems caused by imbalances so have had many niggles since having my children but knowing what the cause is does help me nip any acute pains in the bud before they become chronic. Good luck!

Back from a hectic weekend with a 6 hour drive each way through potholes and graded roads and an interminable border crossing full of bureaucracy, through deserted acacia bushland and beautiful mountains to Moshi.

I managed a 2hr 13 run, on a pretty difficult course with the first 10k being only uphill. It was also very hot. But great fun running through small villages with local people cheering you on and tiny children running alongside.

However, it does seem like an awful lot of effort to go to to run a half marathon.

sanfairyann · 01/03/2010 20:56

that sounds glorious how are the legs now?

Themasterandmargaritas · 02/03/2010 05:16

Not too bad thanks, my thighs feel like they have done a pretty strenuous workout but otherwise are ok.

I need to start week one of my intermediate half marathon training for my really tough bush run the same as I did last year, but I think next week can be week one!

peachsmuggler · 03/03/2010 16:32

hello pavement pounders! (inc off roaders, fell runners etc)

Just back from weekend away and trying to remember the last time I ran...think it was a week ago but feels like longer.

Seriously need to get my ass in gear over MN marathon. Supposed to be doing 15 miles and have been near nothing like that for yonks.

Going for shortish (4 miles) tonight then seriously need to get out at the weekend. It is DD's second birthday (yayyy!) so we have the outlaws down so really I will have no excuse, except that we will be busy, but will see what i can do.

Think I need to make a proper training plan for next 3 weeks and stick to it, otherwise I will be lucky to do 15 minutes

Also ate a considerable amount of lard/sugar/wine over weekend so must embrace the pavements. Not literally I hope.

Happy (almost Spring) running everyone!

hatwoman · 03/03/2010 21:40

hi everyone. peachy lard wine and sugar conjures up some really horrific images.

I'm off to "recce" (I speak the lingo dontcha know) a bit of the sky-line tomorrow. I bought myself a big runners bum bag today but am perplexed as to how people fit everything they need in them. the bigger fell races have equipment checks and you have to have full body cover (not entirely sure what that means), hat, gloves, map, compass, whistle and adequate water. part of me wants to swap my thick fleece and crappy waterproof for a hi-tech North Face miraculously warm but packs into a match-box jobby. but then I remember that they cost £200 and think perhaps I should get a grip...

hatwoman · 04/03/2010 18:07

recce was gorgeous - fantastic day for it, stunning views. did 13 miles and 2657 feet of climb. but we were way off making the cut off time. having january off has done for me. think I'll have to pull out - my 2 friends are thinking the same thing. but still, it was an awesome run today.

TutTutter · 04/03/2010 20:33

hi all. have been awol for ages, but wanted to pop on to ask if anyone else doing the london marathon?

Twink · 04/03/2010 22:38

Hat, awesome! Would have loved to have been there. Have officially entered OMM but won't know until end of July if we've been successful.

Niggly injuries this week have hampered training but still been biking, swimming & climbing, just not enough - getting scared!

Hugs to Moshi. Many congrats to Master, 12 hour round trip in those conditions shows admirable commitment! Hope legs are recovering now.

Peachy consider yourself kicked up the a*se, in the nicest possible way.

San that's very respectable! Many people set their second 10k target to be under an hour, that's 6.2 miles (their first target is to finish!)

Remember I posted miniT's poem that she wrote for Mr T's funeral? Well, today's post brought her a Blue Peter Badge!!! as she emailed it to them. She's bouncing off the ceiling!

Wheelybug · 05/03/2010 12:16

Hello !

Well done M&M ! Sounds awesome.. and well done everyone who's been running/training/losing themselves on mountains and of course, winning blue peter badges

Not much to report here - running has been on a back seat due to calf injury (no idea what i've done but its been hurting for a few weeks now, radiatin round the calf... any ideas through the powers of internet ??). An easier qu to answer might be - when do you seek help with injuries and what do you do ? Go to a physio ???

I have also had a bit of a bug and kids/dh ill so haven't done much at all. But, did get back to gym this morning and ran 5K so going to see what leg does after that.

Am finding it v.v. frustrating - I want to run and no probably won't get to my goal of 10K before dd2 turns 1 (next fri). Sulk.

peachsmuggler · 05/03/2010 21:39

Congrats mini T! That's so lovely.

Have got cold so am hoping to run on Sunday

SixtyFootDoll · 05/03/2010 21:54

Hi all
I used to run a bit and am getting back into it
Have done two 5 milers in the last few days, and rediscovering what a joy running can be, esp now the weather is imporving and I havea new Ipod!

liath · 06/03/2010 07:46

Is it sore to press on your calf, wheelybug? I'd generally go straight to a physio if that's an option, if only to find out if it's safe to carry on running or whether you need an USS (although my physio told me I could run with PTT and I ended up with a partially ruptured tendon ).

Well done miniT. I still have the blue peter badge I won in 1982 and it has pride of place on my kitchen windowsill .

I am doing a return to running after injury programme, so far there is a lot of walking involved but it doesn't seem to be aggravating anything so that's good.

Have a great wekend everyone.

sanfairyann · 06/03/2010 20:58

wow, miniT - well done on the blue peter badge - am v envious even now - I always wanted one

just done a few short runs this week but hoping to do my first 10k race next month so I'm glad you think my time is respectable twink - I'd hate to be toooooo embarrassed

Wheelybug · 06/03/2010 21:22

Ooh thanks Liath for the advice. Actually, do you know, it feels better today than it has done in about 2 weeks after my run so fingers crossed its ok. Otherwise, have details of a physio a friend has used locally (although will look into my health insurance to see whether they'd pay up).

Welcome sixtyfootdoll !

TutTutter · 06/03/2010 21:24

hellooooooooo?!

(is it because i is a moldie?)

sanfairyann · 06/03/2010 21:27

[looks at ceiling and whistles]

Wheelybug · 06/03/2010 21:27

Did anyone hear anything ????

Actually Tutter I had meant to say that I don't think anyone else is doing the London Marathon - it hasn't been talked about much as far as I recall.

How's your training going ? (do they not have a running thread on moldies then ?? )

TutTutter · 06/03/2010 21:31

GOD no, the rest of them are way too busy bitching about MN to run ;o)

can't believe i'm the only one down to run the marathon - there must be someone else out there (how many MNers now? 850,000 or summat?)

anyway, did my longest traingin run yesterday - 20 miles. legs suffering today, but it wasn't too awful. 2hrs 51mins, which is on track for my target time

sanfairyann · 06/03/2010 21:40

bloomin eck that's a long run!

Themasterandmargaritas · 07/03/2010 06:46

Way to go Tut

I seem to recall someone starting a seperate VLM thread, perhaps it was you? Are you enjoying it?

Well done Mini-T. It's amazing to think Blue Peter Badges are still going strong.

Merle · 07/03/2010 07:33

Hi everyone (bustles in)

HAT you need a kagoule and waterproof trousers which roll up into a small ball. I have some made by Montane. They fit into a little bag which is about the size of an apple. They're not too expensive and of course the sales are on now.

Any point in speaking to the organisers of Skyline? They might give you a bit of slack with the cut-off if they are warned that you will be coming through afterwards?

sfxmum · 07/03/2010 09:47

hello all

fabulous running

mini T well done am very impressed and kind of proud in a 'distant auntie' kind of way

tutter way to go and good luck with the training

hatwoman sounds like an amazing experience

the master that is dedication, crossing borders for a race (for a second there I thought you went over to run with Moshi, never mind my slow brain)

I will probably do my first 10K today, in training, but am slightly disappointed that my times are growing ever longer, doesn't help that I have had a cold for nearly two weeks and seem to need lots of tissues when I am out, still not done more that 4 miles

anyway onwards and forwards as it were

happy running
