Good god Badgermokey that is fantastic! Well done

I did not do so well in my 10k. Actually made a bit of a mess of it. Was aiming for 65.55 mins and had my splits written on my arm to keep me right. Was all going ok till about 7k and then just hit a brick wall and it all became very very difficult. In the end couldn't even do it under an hour. My time was 60.28.

Am pretty gutted as could have probably done that time 8 weeks ago before I started my training, so it has all been a total waste of time. Have only done 4 races in my life and have been dissapointed at the end of all, so maybe racing is not for me and I will just stick to running on my own!

popsycal · 12/07/2009 14:30

wooooooohooo
did my 10k race this morning and did it under an hour!!!!!

I am sooo pleased
The tim on the clock at the end was 1hr 3 mins but we started 6 and a half mins after the first wave of runners and the timing is chipped so I reckon by my timing around 58 mins

I never thoguht i would do it under an hor!

Checking great north site tonight for official time!

popsycal · 12/07/2009 14:39

wowrreslts are on already
57:17

I am sooo pleased!

fishie · 12/07/2009 16:52

badgermonkey, peachsmuggler and popsy well done.

sfxmum · 12/07/2009 16:59

well done all great times here that is really fantastic

have had trouble going out all week but managed 4 miles today took me 40mins partly because the footpath is so busy in the sunshine, never ceases to amaze me how people see you coming and still walk 4 abreast on a narrow path

hope to go 3x this week as will be away from Thursday to next Monday
then will think about a 10k race of some sort
happy running

popsycal · 12/07/2009 17:38

haha i did my last 3k faster than my first 3k

I feel good

off to look at half marathon training progra,,e )

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 13/07/2009 09:07

peachsmuggler - don't be disheartened. For starters a lot of folk would be pleased with that time.

I don't do races very often as I find I generally don't do as well as I'd like. I burn of a whole load of nervous energy before I even start and just run out of steam. If you can stay motivated without racing then just run and Enjoy

hi everyone, jsu t got back from my first run since last Thursday, haven't been able to go out since then.

I have to say though apart from a small blip in the middle where my calfs went all tense,(i forced myself to keep going and it got easier) i found it really comfortable and was even able to reduce walking and increase running time. Now feeling really positive and thinking about searching for a small running event to enter so i have something to aim for, Is that a good idea seasoned runners?

I do feel poud of myself again, i was worried that i had undone all my previous hard work but obviously not!

Also can i just have it noted tha i HATE living in a village on a farking hill you never have any flat ground to run on (although we never flood so thats a bonus )

popsycal · 13/07/2009 19:26

I have a nike+question

My run yesterday was recorded by chip which is displayed for me on nike website.

Now I record my runs with nike+ and my ipod but didnt yesterday - is there any way I can import yesterdays run into my nike+ data???

off to peruse the fora...

racmac · 13/07/2009 19:35

I did a 10k yesterday and was bit disappointed. I got to about 5.5 miles and got really bad pain just below ribs - so bad that it hurt to walk let alone run - ended up running and walking and finished in 63.20 - had been hoping to do it under 1 hour but never mind.

My toes are really sore as well - went to get some new trainers today so hopefully they will make a difference.

Anyone else had the rib pain thingy? Had it once before in training and couldnt finish - feels like a pulled muscle

fishie · 13/07/2009 20:33

racmac i got dreadful toe pain but got shown another way of tying laces - make a loop in the first two holes and thread lace through, then no more slippage and whacking of toes.

sfxmum · 13/07/2009 21:50

morethan well done you keep it up

racmac sorry you feel disappointed still not a terrible time given the circumstances, can't help with rib pain, is it down to breathing?
about toes I think shoes help, hope you feel better soon

I'm new to this site!

I'd love some advice on jogging strollers. I live in Ireland & there isn't much choice. Could get a friend to buy me something in the States like a Baby Jogger or a BOB stroller but I don't know whether to get one that has a fixed front wheel or one that you can change from swivel to fixed. Also I'm nervous about buying a buggy without ever trying it. I see Out'n'About do a sports one with a fixed front wheel...

Any advice would be much appreciated. I want to be able to jog without needing a babysitter!
Thanks.

popsycal · 15/07/2009 20:15

Hi everyone
I managed to get out today t irstime sice my 10k

I planned to do a nice easy 5k just to stretch my legs and i have somehow managed to do my fastest mile recorded by my ipod and also fastest 5k. Not entirely sure how that happened!

I am going to prentend i am doing the Great north run and build up my mileage

I need some advice though. The training plans I can find are either for people who have ran a half marathon before or for beginners. And I am somewhere in between

Could anyone suggest an online plan. Or give me some tiips? I like to have a plan to refer to!

hatwoman · 16/07/2009 09:58

popsycal - have a look here there seems to be a variety of schedules.

I did my 4th fell race last night - 4.5 miles and 1000 foot climb up here. I fell on my bum coming down.

I was saying to dh how much I hate the first couple of miles - I am constantly telling myself that it's awful, I have no idea why I do it, it hurts too much and I'm never going to do another. but then something happens and by the time I finish I want to do it all again. next one should be next week...

liath · 17/07/2009 17:42

Hatwoman I have serious fell race envy

Wannabe - no experience of strollers I'm afraid, someone was posting earlier on the thread about running with her phil and teds.

Well, I have started running again but only very short ones so far. I've been doing a lot of obsessive internet searches on tibialis posterior tendonitis and have decded to try and change my running form to more of a forefoot strike. Kills the calves, though!

popsycal · 18/07/2009 19:32

tried a mild 5k jaunt today and had to stop in a bus shelter half way as the rain was so bad that I couldnt run with my eyes open

I managaed to get a PB for 1 mile on my way home though

Also, someone emailed me today wth a potential GNR place

Themasterandmargaritas · 19/07/2009 22:05
peachsmuggler · 20/07/2009 09:04

master - could you Zola Budd it???

Had quite nice 10 miler yesterday. Does anyone feel really hungry the day after a longish run, rather than on the day itself? Am sure there is some clever biological explanation which I can't quite get my head around..

Good luck with the GNR place popsy!

popsycal · 20/07/2009 11:03

omg just had an email voffering me a gnr place
have to raISE 250 QUID BUT NO ENTRANCE FEE

ARGH
QUICK DECISION NEEDED

peachsmuggler · 20/07/2009 11:30

Do it!!!!

popsycal · 20/07/2009 11:42

I kmow I could do the distance by then - just whether I can fit in the training over the summer holiday with a 7 year old a 4.5 year old and a 10 month old////

popsycal · 20/07/2009 11:43

would need to start on week 4 of this now

morethanyoubargainfor · 20/07/2009 17:36

hello everyone,

I feel very inferior here but i wanted to share, i have just got back from run and before i went i decided on just doing a circular route from home, i decided i was going to run all of it and not do any walking. I did it , all 7 and half minutes of it. It doesn't seem like much but when i went out on thursday i was walking for 1.30 and running for 2.30 minutes, (withthe occassional 1.30 minute run ) I haven't been out since thursday, so can't get out as much as i would like (i foster and have a new child) right at the moment, but am still cycling and walking when i can.

Popsycal i think i would do it, (might involve runnig at midnight tho!) good luck.
