rita I was at York from '92-'95, Derwent College, so we would have overlapped one year!

sfx it took several weeks to completely go but I did notice major improvements within a few weeks. My physio was great at identifying the weaknesses causing it and we worked hard on those. I an a great believer in looking at the cause and trying to rectify that rather than fixing the symptom and was lucky to find a physio who works the same way. The one I saw before him was a real field physio who preferred to tape me up so I could race but it just made the problem worse and set me back even more!

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 04/06/2009 10:23

I was in Derwent as well

Have just managed to run for 30 min. That is the longest I have ever run for in my whole life. Am feeling

MoshiMoshi · 04/06/2009 11:48

Oh dear. It's sunny and I was planning on going running with DC4 as DC1 is at school and DCs 2 and 3 at nursery today but I am suddenly soooooo sleeeeeepy ...

MoshiMoshi · 04/06/2009 11:49

PS Well done on your 30 min run, Rita!

PS Well done on your 30 min run, Rita!

MoshiMoshi · 04/06/2009 11:50

Oops.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 04/06/2009 14:45

It was an amazing run - so good I needed praising twice

peachsmuggler · 04/06/2009 15:32

Excellent Rita - All these milestones really help with your confidence huh?

Well ladies, I have befriended some hills. ran up and down some last night for about 40 minutes and it was actually ok. Was also able to sprint(ish) the last bit home. Am definitely feeling fitter, just 3 weeks into speed training hell/program. It's kind of, like magic really.

Weighed myself at the baths the other day and have not lost even 1 pound since end of April, despite all the running and other exercise and also been calorie counting for the last 4 weeks. I don't understand it. I certainly feel slimmer and I look it too. I can't have put on that must muscle surely . I know it is much better to go by your size rather than your weight, but there is definitely something magical about those scales. It seems somehow more concrete.

sfxmum · 04/06/2009 16:13

Rita well done

Peach - I am still about 10lbs over what I want to be running helps but I really have to watch what I eat, being 40 must have something to do with it.

have not been since Tuesday but hopefully will manage it at the weekend despite having dd's party on Saturday and family over on Sunday actually those are 2 good reasons to squeeze it in

went to local running shop to get a new water bottle and browse shoes and tops, was told their big sale starts Saturday

liath · 04/06/2009 16:46

Peach, same here. Haven't shed a pound since I started regular exercise. I'm blaming my mirena coil not the stash of chocolate in the fridge. Put on a good half stone after having it put in and it just won't budge.

badgermonkey · 04/06/2009 18:53

Rita, well done! Feels good when you realised how long you ran without stopping, doesn't it?

I just did 5 miles in 45 minutes, which I'm pleased about because I hurt my ankle a bit last week and I was worried it'd be something terrible and I would Never Run Again.

And hmmm to the mention of sales! I wonder if any of the online shops will have decent stuff in the sales. I don't know about anyone else, but racking up an impressive wardrobe of running gear (albeit mostly from eBay) is all part of the fun .

19fran76 · 06/06/2009 11:16

Wish you a quick recovery liath.

Well done Rita & Badgermonkey, everyone on the thread is doing so well.

Hope you bag a bargain Sfxmum, I can't even begin to share the horror of what I was running in before I got the one set of decent kit that is on constant wash. (Distant sound of ebay calling)

I ran 4 miles Tuesday & 6 miles on Thursday. Times pretty much the same as last week. (Glad it wasn't just the bang to the head/a fluke) Still slicing into the last couple of walking breaks over 6 miles. Kept telling myself that I was comfortable & carried on rather than stopping & yep, a lot of it seems to be about acquiring enough confidence but I think a couple of weeks added fitness should help nail it too . Think I will plot a brand new 6.2 mile route in 2-3 weeks & just go out there & do it. Hope to fit in another run/hill misery session on Sunday. Glad that you're feeling the benefits of your hard work Peachsmuggler

The magic scales have not registered any changes for me over the last few weeks either but my thighs are getting bigger so somewhere else must be shrinking, right?

Themasterandmargaritas · 06/06/2009 11:36

Liath great job on your Edinburgh run It sounds like everyone else has been doing very well too.

I have been Not Quite Right this week and so haven't run all week, so this morning I popped out for a quick 5k and it all felt much better .

Has your heatwave stopped yet?

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 06/06/2009 14:08

I am not going to share what I run in

19fran76 · 06/06/2009 18:08

Oooh, you tease Rita. Do tell.

19fran76 · 06/06/2009 18:10

P.S. Yep, Master the rain arrived today.

peachsmuggler · 06/06/2009 18:15

The heatwave has indeed disappeared master. Having been 27 degrees last weekend, it is only 17 where we are this weekend and rainy . However it is lovely running weather.

Had hideous interval training in park this morning which was very hard, but then it's supposed to be huh?

Twink · 06/06/2009 18:53

Lovely running weather indeed Peach, well done on the interval training, how long were your intervals?

Unfortunately in a moment of madness huge enthusiasm, I signed up for a cycling sportif tomorrow. Just checked the forecast for the umpteenth time and noticed that the Met Office have issued a severe weather warning for our area...

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 06/06/2009 18:58

I have some very cheap shorts from Peacocks and a cheap ordinary vest top

Have started doing this in the hopes of making it to 10k one day.

Have found using my own music seems to make me go faster - on my second 15 min run I seemed to be going at 9.something min/mile which is rather better than my usual 11 min/mile

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 06/06/2009 22:43

What do other people wear to do their running in? Am vaguely looking at ebay

peachsmuggler · 06/06/2009 22:55

Twink - I ran an easy 2 miles to the park then did 800 metres faster with 400m recovery 4 times, then 2 miles easy home. It was hard hard hard and I walked my last 400m recovery but hey!

Rita - Well done on your 9 min miles, that's really good!

I am wearing a really old pair of summer 3/4 length light trousers (not designed for running) and a saucony sweat control (nice!) t-shirt thing, which is very good, but a horrible pink colour.

AtheneNoctua · 06/06/2009 23:51

Hey, SFX, where are you bagging bargains? I bought a running top at Amida today and paid full price. Hope you did better.

I'm not very good at "hitting the trail" these days, but I did run for 30 mintues on the tredmill today. I can't remember how far I went... 5k maybe, but thatinvolved some walking after the 30 min. run.

Does anyone else run on the treadmill or do you have interesting trails you like to run on?

I like the treadmill because it has videas and handy cupholder for my gatorade.

badgermonkey · 07/06/2009 10:53

I went for an 8 mile run this morning, which is the furthest I've ever gone! DH was a bit disappointed with our time (1hr22) but we'd gone a different way than we planned due to my firm refusal to run along the clifftop in windy weather (he said "think of the feeling of accomplishment you'll get!" I said "I think running 8 miles is accomplishment enough, I'm not training for the army") and it worked out at 8.2 miles so not too bad.

I wore my new running shorts - Karrimor from Sports Direct for £5.99! They still had the £16.99 label on, too. And this t-shirt, but in dark blue, because it amused me: www.sportsdirect.com/Products/SD/PID-Nike+Graphic+Tee+Ladies-451775.aspx?ColCode=45177522. If you're running in a cotton top, it's really worth investing in a proper technical t-shirt or vest. Nike Dri-Fit or Adidas Climacool are good. This one has mesh under the arms; when I got home it was drenched, but I didn't feel sweaty or hot at all.

peachsmuggler · 07/06/2009 11:23

badger that's a fantastic time for 8 miles, particularly if it's your first time at that distance! Don't know where you are but frankly this morning I was hiding under the duvet from the sky which was falling in, so much respect to you for getting out at all!!!

sfxmum · 07/06/2009 12:14
