Sympathy, @Placestogo - I recall that feeling from when I was still working.

No exercise today - had to be out of town. Was booked in for a haircut. The hairdresser said that I was looking well and "Have you lost weight?" so that was a bonus.

Attended my Senior Flex Class (45 minutes) and Active for Life Class (1 hr) yesterday. Have another Active for Life Class tomorrow.

henlake7 · 09/10/2025 22:36

Hi all!
Hope it's ok to join for some motivation!😁
Started off well this morning with 40 minutes of weight training and an hour on my exercise bike. Then went for a half hour run this afternoon and walked about 8000 steps (dogs to walk and can't drive!).
I don't normally do that much though so I'm now pooped and my joints are waving the white flag!

stilldumdedumming · 10/10/2025 10:22

Early morning swim today. Had to drag myself there in these dark mornings. 60 lengths though.

i am off to London today meeting friends for an exhibition. Very worried about how I will get on with my ridiculous walking.

Morning all! I’ve done a decent job of getting back into the habit of exercising (only running so far) since I last posted. I think I might get my road bike set up on the turbo training in anticipation of the short days and bad weather.

Does anyone have any events they are training for? I’m thinking of finding a running race to focus my mind. It’s a bit niche but does anyone know the Grindleford Gallop? It’s a fell race which gained a lot of popularity in recent years. I’ve got a few friends that always do it and it’s in March which seems like a good time to keep me motivated through the winter. It’s 21miles and 3000ft of elevation so it would be challenging although as is often the case with these things, the range of abilities is broad so not everyone is fast.

Hi, I have been thinking the same!

I have a 10k this weekend as I just got back into running this year, end Jan 25 sort of time.

I have another 10k in the New Forest in mid November, too.

If that goes well, I might work towards a longer distance!

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 10/10/2025 10:27

@Alittlefrustrated I hear what you are saying about running and PF, and of course if it's not for you, that is fine :) but if PF is holding you back from something you love, there is a lot you may be able to do about it.

Happleandhorange · 10/10/2025 10:36

That's a fantastic, swimming distance @stilldumdedumming. I really hope London went well, and the walking was good.
Our local disability organisation is running a campaign called "just use the damn mobility aid!" I've been trying to feel less embarrassed when I need my stick as a result.

Today was Reformer Pilates at gym. It's so good and they are so inclusive.

No. 40

stilldumdedumming · 10/10/2025 10:39

@JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff the New Forest half and Marathon are lovely. I can’t run now but I think I did the half in 2018. It was weirdly flat or on a slight decline. So a nice fast route if you don’t get distracted by ponies and ancient trees as I did.

stilldumdedumming · 10/10/2025 10:43

@Happleandhorange I am a pretty fast swimmer. I was really lucky to grow up near a community pool. As kids we would walk there ourselves almost every day and it must have been cheap because we were skint!

I use 1 stick currently. Although I was holding my dad’s sticks recently while he tried out a mobility scooter and I think I might give 2 sticks a go soon.
it’s not my best look but I find it gets me a seat on trains! My dp is blind and has brain damage so between us…

WearyAuldWumman · 10/10/2025 13:13

Had a bad night. Was half an hour late for Active for Health class. Managed 4 minutes HIIT walking (can get up to 6.5 km p h), 90 seconds of 'dead bug' abdominals,

10 sets of 10 each side for obliques - side dips and twists using 8 kg weights. Need to move up a kilo but there isn't one in the wee gym. Shall have to do those exercises in the main gym in future.

Booked myself into the big gym to use the lat machine. Tried 30kg, but could hardly budge it. Moved back to 25 kg for 3 sets of lat pulls, triceps pulls and biceps pulls. I need to get gloves - I'm developing calluses.

Placestogo · 10/10/2025 19:06

30 mins cardio home session because im going out in 30mins and i wanted to do at least a little bit of exercise today!

henlake7 · 10/10/2025 19:07

Hey all!
Didn't do too bad today. 20 minutes of pilates and another 20 minutes on my ministepper. Also about 10k steps here and there.
Finally another half hour run today. I kinda gave up running all summer but I think I'm getting back into it now the weather's cooler.

I'm not much of a joiner so do my exercise at home using YouTube videos and a random collection of home gym equipment.
I usually stick Netflix on whilst I'm doing my cardio to help motivate me (have just started rewatching Downton Abbey and the challenge is not sneaking extra episodes when I'm not on my exercise bike! 😂).

FurForksSake · 10/10/2025 19:19

Twenty minutes on the mini stepper is hardcore! I’ve got one and have to do it a couple of minutes at a time!

I’ve done my physio exercises and added some Pilates in as my mid thoracic is really uncomfortable and I’m trying to free it.

Alittlefrustrated · 10/10/2025 20:13

8.5 mile coastal walk with my doggy charge. My hips are feeling it - hope they are OK for dancing in the morning 🙏

Happleandhorange · 10/10/2025 22:39

Today I voted in our local elections, which is not obviously a workout, but always makes me feel good for getting off my butt and bothering!

No 40, again, but with extra feel good points.

Placestogo · 11/10/2025 09:38

Bootcamp class in the park ✅

WearyAuldWumman · 11/10/2025 12:25

Spent yesterday evening on my knees removing sealant from the wetroom.

Spent a great deal of this morning stretching, trying to iron out the sore bits.

stilldumdedumming · 11/10/2025 12:52

@Happleandhorange I love voting!

pilates this morning at the local gym. Unfortunately it’s the same class every time. I realise now it’s because the instructor isn’t really a Pilates instructor and she has a very very basic qualification. Her other classes are good though. Thing is nothing has helped my mobility as much as Pilates (and I teach yoga!) so it’s important I keep doing it. So I have to supplement it at home!

FurForksSake · 11/10/2025 12:56

@stilldumdedumming do you supplement it with your own practice or an easily accessible and recommendable online video?

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 11/10/2025 13:02

Couple of sea swims during the week, run last night and s&c today.

stilldumdedumming · 11/10/2025 13:04

I tend to go for The Girl with the Pilates Mat on YouTube. I need slow and do-able. There is 1 class at the local leisure centre where I swim which is all levels and pretty challenging so I go if I can squeeze it in work wise.
I’m a yoga teacher but I only do the odd bit of cover now. But I don’t really understand Pilates so my attempts at self practice are a bit hit and miss. I used to have a great Pilates teacher but she stopped doing classes.

FurForksSake · 11/10/2025 13:23

I’m waiting for hip surgery, my physio runs physio led Pilates classes which I plan to do in the new year. But, that will be once a week; so things I can do at home are good.

I can’t do yoga due to hyper mobility and spinal disease, but Pilates seems to work. As long as I can get my breathing right!

Alittlefrustrated · 11/10/2025 17:55

90 mins dance class
178.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 11/10/2025 19:51

Eeep 10k tomorrow... my first public running event in ages and even though I totally know I can run 10k, getting nervous!!

FurForksSake · 11/10/2025 19:58

Good luck @JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff I’m sure you’ll smash it!

henlake7 · 11/10/2025 22:40

Wow 10k? Good luck!
Today was weight training and exercise bike, also got in 14k steps thanks to a long walk to the cinema. Thinking of trying some yoga as well, I could probably do more for my mobility/flexibility.
