Wow WearyAuldWumman, it sounds like you are doing great! Welcome
I use the leisure centre as well, but don't use the gym. I get my money's worth just swimming.

WearyAuldWumman · 07/10/2025 22:48

Thank you. :)

Yes, many people at our leisure centre use the pools only - in addition to the main pool there's a hot pool which I'm told is good for aches and pains.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 07/10/2025 23:12

Hello @wearyAuldWumman sounds like you've a lot going on!

Short run with ds this evening in the rain.

Yay for getting out on a run, @MotherForkinShirtBalls ! Impressed by anyone who can run in rain.

Welcome, weary. You sound very thorough and dedicated.

I had my first PT appointment today. It was free, and included a cafe drink, which was good, because it was 2 hours long: it was meant to be a chat and assessment. In the event, about 30 minutes of that was me and my issues, and 90 minutes was the PT telling me about her significant own disability difficulties and how she manages them: I think we're ideally suited in the sense that she's obviously going to understand what it's like to have a messed up body. I also think she clearly needed a listening ear of her own. I am counting this as a workout because I went to the gym, and also I feel I worked out emotionally with all the sympathetic listening! So 38. I shall try to do some active stuff around the house and a good dog walk to make sure I have moved today.

Happleandhorange · 08/10/2025 03:40

Here's the gouache painting I did at beach afterwards, I needed to decompress and this spot is close to gym! It was great to be outside again listening to the waves.

@Happleandhorange that sounds like a very helpful and successful meeting. Your listing is just lovely.

BadActingParsley · 08/10/2025 08:42

I think I’ve decided it’s just easier to turn up at my morning exercise class than make excuses not to….which is an interesting mind shift for me!

BezMills · 08/10/2025 08:48

Welcome @WearyAuldWumman

@BadActingParsley the sheer self satisfaction I get driving home from a dawnie is unsurpassed. I eat a big breakfast and sit at my desk feeling like I just won the day

Happleandhorange · 08/10/2025 08:52

Ooh, I haven't dared try a dawn class yet. Tempted now. (Mainly because I'm trying to catch beach high tides for my paintings, this week I kept turning up at low and just getting to paint a lot of wet sand).

Haha to not making excuses. I get that completely.

roonetta · 08/10/2025 09:55

Love the painting Happle 🩷

Haven't caught up properly on the thread, but nice to see all the new names.

Struggling to find any motivation at the moment and generally feeling a bit crap. I made myself do some yoga this morning and will count it.

Happleandhorange · 08/10/2025 10:08

Yay for yoga (pretending I don't hate it in a supportive way). Thank you for kind words re painting. I am trying to work with gouache outside because is less messy as a creative challenge. It is a really interesting and versatile medium, I cannot wait to see what it does next.

WearyAuldWumman · 08/10/2025 12:02

I keep promising myself that I'll go to a dawn class, but it's not happened yet - the earliest has been 9.30, after the morning rush is over.

Most of the time I'm in around lunch when there aren't that many people. Today I have two afternoon classes, so I'll not be doing my own workout.

stilldumdedumming · 08/10/2025 12:40

Hi can I join please? I’m pretty much a daily exerciser - just need a bit of encouragement at the weekends!

I have a disability and also an injury that is taking months and months to recover from. So currently I can’t really walk. So my exercise is vital as well as pretty slow and steady. My running days are over 😔

I work full time but compressed hours so I can also care for my disabled partner, grandkids and parents.

I swim as often as I can - usually about 4 times a week. Pilates x 3 ish and 2 gym classes and 1 yoga.

Today I only had time for 40x 25m swim (I don’t always count lengths but today I did). 7am - does that count as dawn?

WearyAuldWumman · 08/10/2025 13:33

Well done @stilldumdedumming . I know how difficult it is to fit in exercise when you're caring for others, particularly when you're recovering from an injury.

I'd count 7 am as dawn - early enough for me!

Happleandhorange · 08/10/2025 15:27

Hello, stilldammung. I'm loving all the disability and injury activity on this thread right now. My tribe!

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 15:32

I’ve just done my physio exercises, I’ll try and do another set later, but won’t beat myself up if I can’t. Tried very hard not to hold my breath, my physio gets around that by getting me chatting 😆

Alittlefrustrated · 08/10/2025 21:30

90 mins dance class
Qigong class

nowinetimeforme · 09/10/2025 05:59

Morning all! I’ve done a decent job of getting back into the habit of exercising (only running so far) since I last posted. I think I might get my road bike set up on the turbo training in anticipation of the short days and bad weather.

Does anyone have any events they are training for? I’m thinking of finding a running race to focus my mind. It’s a bit niche but does anyone know the Grindleford Gallop? It’s a fell race which gained a lot of popularity in recent years. I’ve got a few friends that always do it and it’s in March which seems like a good time to keep me motivated through the winter. It’s 21miles and 3000ft of elevation so it would be challenging although as is often the case with these things, the range of abilities is broad so not everyone is fast.

Happleandhorange · 09/10/2025 06:24

I hold my breath too for physio exercises, I thought I was the only one!
Qigong and Grindleford Gallop both new to me, going to look them up.

Today at gym enlivened by an asthma attack before I got there. Decided to avoid extended cardio, did some boxing on the bags in mixed area (all the men ran away and left me to it) and then weights machines. I was shattered afterwards, like after Bodypump. It feels like strength training is tiring in a completely different way. Does anyone else get that?

Happleandhorange · 09/10/2025 06:30

Sorry,,forgot to number that one. 39.

Placestogo · 09/10/2025 06:53

@nowinetimeforme i used to love races when i used to run before kids. My pelvic floor doesnt allow me to catch the bus nowadays but im working on it! Enjoy the GG!
id love to do some kind of challenges now but life is far too busy now… i can just about manage 2-3 workouts a week…
theres a 2 weeks challenge at my yoga studio where you have to attend one class a day for two weeks (or for 30 days!) but even that feels too much atm
Definitely later, in a few years, when things are more settles, i’ll look into it again.
i mean there is a a 3 days walk on the downs in may for charity, with my professional body… that could be something i suppose but i dont know another colleague who might be interested…

stilldumdedumming · 09/10/2025 17:43

Just popping by. Today was swimming but with my 2 year old grandson so it was him throwing things for me to retrieve from the bottom. He did help by saying ready steady go though!

I did manage a 40 minute body project resistance workout for mainly upper body today though. So I will count that one.

stilldumdedumming · 09/10/2025 17:52

I am sad that I can’t take my grandson swimming by myself. I just can’t chase after him if he runs off (which he does). Because my walking is so slow and awkward. I suppose it won’t be too long til I can rely on him not to. Maybe reigns up to the poolside though? Any bright ideas gratefully received.

Placestogo · 09/10/2025 17:53

Completely exhausted, mentally and physically despite WFH. Was going to do a gym session at 5pm but work got in the way and i am only just logging off now at 5.50. Have to attend an online talk i paid for tonight (silly me! It did seem like a good idea at the time!!) and cook dinner for the kids as well so i guess i will have to plan for something tomorrow instead!
