Got to bodybalance. Nearly broke me.

Sorry had to laugh! I do like BB but it can be like that.

@WearyAuldWumman I wasn’t sure whether to congratulate or commiserate you on your singing! I am going with congratulations 😁

I walked 3.5 miles with only very brief stops yesterday. Tough towards the end but I was really pleased. I think the gym work is paying off in terms of muscle stamina.

Fantastic! Those real life wins are the best thing to read about.

BezMills · 28/12/2025 11:14

I seem to have finally broken this interminable lurgae which has beset me since last Saturday. No exercise for me since the day thenceforth known as 1RM Friday.

I'm up in Scotland for DFiL's funeral, and might be able to sneak off to the gym. The BodyCombat classes here are aye stowed oot, so not super optimistic. However just the gym gym would be good, the cooncil gym nearby is brilliant

FurForksSake · 28/12/2025 14:56

Thanks @BezMills! We managed two miles today, which was definitely a bit too far, but better than not enough. We went back to the country park where my hip really went with a bang in May and I’m glad to have gone back and tried to make some better memories. Ds10 and I sat on a bench in the middle of the walk and discussed the many shades of brown and green we could see, listening to the noises of the wood and spoke about the seasons and the trees.

stilldumdedumming · 28/12/2025 17:38

Today was lower body and core at home. I feel like I need to step it up a little but I’m not really sure how. I may have to venture into the actual gym. Wondering if I can get mum in law rates from my daughters bf who is a qualified PT turned accountant

WearyAuldWumman · 28/12/2025 18:33

Sorry to hear about your FIL, @BezMills

So far as I'm aware, all the Cooncil gyms round my way are completely shut on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The cafés in the Cooncil gyms round here are all shut for the fortnight, but the water machines and coffee machines are working. Some of the private gyms might be open, but I'm too much of a skinflint to enquire.

The only class at my nearest gym which is currently showing spaces is the Senior Flex.

However, there should be plenty of space in the new weight room. (Used to be Studio One - it's right next to the refurbished gym.)

The early morning bootcamps at all the gyms always seem to have space, but the one at my gym seems to be outside. No thanks! Too cold for me!

I'm booked into Pilates tomorrow and Stretch on Tuesday. Apart from that, I think I'll try to get onto some of the new machines in the refurbished gym and maybe use free weights for the upper body. I admit that I'm missing the structure of my classes.

stilldumdedumming · 29/12/2025 21:11

60 x 25m swim this morning. A relaxed pace I would say but new Xmas goggles were lovely!

FurForksSake · 29/12/2025 21:12

Another walk today, slightly shorter but we still did it. I’ve got physio tomorrow so we’ll see how stiff I am for that.

WearyAuldWumman · 29/12/2025 22:35

Attended the 45 min Pilates class. The trainer concentrated on abdominals. Ouch!

Can't get booked in for next week - apparently the Les Mills Pilates Class has become a Les Mills Yoga class, so most of their class has booked into ours. Now hoping for a cancellation.

stilldumdedumming · 30/12/2025 09:26

Oh no @WearyAuldWumman I hate it when these little changes disrupt our schedule. It makes me feel really petty!

drama in the medium lane of the pool with a head on collision- the usual suspects - and I stay well out of their way.
still, 60 x 25m at a very steady pace - a bit too easy but that’s ok.

BezMills · 30/12/2025 09:53

I'm sat waiting for the "BoxFit" class at a gym in the Glasgow area. The woman at reception made it sound pretty nails, which bodes well!

WearyAuldWumman · 30/12/2025 14:33

Well, I had my 30 minutes Stretch class. Finding my knees really sore today - might be the cold that's the problem. Completed the class, however. (In spite of the fact that I'm not as stretchy as many of the other people there - I bend as far as I'm able.)

FurForksSake · 30/12/2025 16:25

Physio session and a walk today, very pleased. I’ve closed my Apple Watch exercise ring most days int he last week.

stilldumdedumming · 30/12/2025 17:29

Glad the physio went well @FurForksSake I can’t get my iPhone to show an exercise ring. Only a walking one. Which is annoying because I can’t do that.

sneaked in a cardio session this pm.

Happleandhorange · 30/12/2025 21:58

Waiting outside Pilates class. 80 this year!!!

Placestogo · 31/12/2025 13:38

Just did Hitt pilate this morning and i feel i have already counted down the new year many times!!!! 8…7…6…5…4…
if i don’t go into plank mode tonight when we count down that will be a miracle!! 🤣🤣

happy new year to all of you !

stilldumdedumming · 31/12/2025 15:06

Ha! @Placestogo
I am logging an upper body resistance session- it was too foggy to get to the swimming pool (there’s a tricky junction across a fast A road).

Happy New Year to us all. May all good things be with us so we avoid injuries and life’s less fun set backs and keep moving through 2026!

BezMills · 31/12/2025 15:18

May the small gods of gyms and exercise bless us, and may we avoid being visited by the bad sprites of injury and other thwarts!

Happleandhorange · 31/12/2025 16:39

Happy New Year from 2026 already here :-)

Alittlefrustrated · 31/12/2025 17:52

4.5 mile walk
222.
I've been unwell and done nothing since 23rd.
Used today as a reset - dragged 15yo DS to Raby Castle, and marched round the deer park. Some enourmous antlers to be seen - we changed direction at one point as one big fella was staring us out 🤣
I was feeling disappointed with this years total, but I've worked out it averages out at 4 active days a week, which has to be a good thing.
I think I'll set myself a target of 300 for 2026.
Going to catch up on your posts now - Happy New Year everyone. Wishing you all a healrhy and active 2026 🎇

WearyAuldWumman · 31/12/2025 18:09

Had good intentions of walking on days I can't get to the gym, but it's slippy out there and I've previously had two broken elbows (on separate occasions) courtesy of falls on ice.

Shall hang on until I can get into the gym on Saturday. Have found one of DH's hand weights, however...

BezMills · 31/12/2025 19:44

Aye please be careful out there @WearyAuldWumman !

WearyAuldWumman · 31/12/2025 19:57

So.. the hand weight that I mentioned is actually a small hand barbell (I think?) that DH put together for me - you can add and remove weights, the same asn the big barbells.

It says 5lbs/2.3kg, but the rest of the apparatus weighs 2.5lbs - 1lb for each of the thingies that go either side of the weight and .5lb for the wee pole thing. (Yes, I know all the technical terms!)

What's troubling me is that it feels heavier than the similar weight on the Les Mills hand weight thingies that I've used during Senior Flex. Can't decide whether I'm going backwards or wether this feels harder because it's denser.

I know that I oscillate between 3kg and 4kg for doing side raises with the regular weights. (One for each hand.) I'm not sure why - I don't have the same hormonal challenges at younger women - just gulp muscle wastage.

In my Active for Life class I use a 5kg medicine ball for sit-to-stand, but this weight seems heavier to me. I have no explanation for this.

Happleandhorange · 31/12/2025 22:34

Muscle wastage is waiting for us all!

I am a little bit achy after my Pilates adventures yesterday. But am nobly going to Shapes in half an hour. Do we start counting again, at 1, for NY?

Happleandhorange · 31/12/2025 22:34

@Alittlefrustrated - 4 active days is my average from when I started exercising too. I was pretty pleased.
