I would love to do a musical theatre class like @WearyAuldWumman! Used to do tap when I was tiny and have had phases of going to classes as an adult too - I’m not very good but in my head it’s like Singing in Rain or Thoroughly Modern Millie….

Honestly, it's such fun.

I feel as though I'm being rewarded for the misery I went through in PE lessons in a Fife high school. In winter, the girls had 'National Dancing' (all countries - not just Scottish) whilst the boys had cross country.

Our teacher screamed at me "I do believe you're doing it wrong DELIBERATELY!"

Of course, I finished up a complete bag of nerves and could then get nothing right. I'm not quite sure why she hated me so much - might have been the fact that I was so much taller than her.

Anyway, I've discovered that maybe I'm not even average, but when I'm not stressed I can actually move. At various points, I was thinking "I'm doing it! I'm doing it!"

One of the routines is to that K-Pop song - the name excapes me. "Grab the air! Grab the air!" we're told...and because we're all doing it together and having fun, it's simply wonderful.

stilldumdedumming · 13/12/2025 18:56

I am just catching up with
swimming on Wednesday and Thursday 60 x 25m and lower body group class on Friday.
today I’ve walked 4 ish miles (not all at once) without being completely exhausted and that is amazing really

stilldumdedumming · 13/12/2025 21:15

I will also report 2 happy exercise related things — the gym classes stopped this week but they’ve said we can use the space and equipment to do our group classes ourselves. Just be sensible.
— I went to visit my new dgs. It is an extremely difficult situation in lots of ways eg the baby was very very early, the mum is violent and on bail and is likely to get prison. My ds is trying to step up as a stable parent for the baby. But on the exercise front - I am just back from 7 trains and 4 or so miles and I am not completely knackered. It could be relief that we got the visit over with. But I am pretty staggered as I haven’t been able to walk very well since June.

Placestogo · 14/12/2025 08:13

Gym session with my friend at her fancy gym on friday
hot pilate core control yesterday

im considering joining my friends gym….

BezMills · 14/12/2025 09:10

@stilldumdedumming these real life wins are what it's all about isn't it.

For me it's being able to run for a bus or school pick up, or literally pick DD up.

Happleandhorange · 15/12/2025 05:12

Am in the Far North. For the first time. Workout today was learning how to put up my new tent in blazing sun (inflatable and I only have a manual pump, so you can imagine. Also hammering tent pegs into hard summer ground. About a million of them.

My smartwatch thinks I ran a marathon so counting it!

73

Happleandhorange · 15/12/2025 05:15

That sounds a very difficult situation @stilldumdedumming and kudos to your ds for stepping up.

Yes, my real life win was being able to drive for five hours today and then put up tent. Massive stamina improvement.

stilldumdedumming · 16/12/2025 20:39

I love camping @Happleandhorangeand I have a new tent for UK summer!

yesterday was swimming- around 40 lengths at a nice pace.
Today was hard core core, challenging Pilates, and tonight yoga. Knackered!

Alittlefrustrated · 16/12/2025 22:02

5.5 mile walk
218.
Missed my swims and classes since Thursday as I've had alcohol induced gastritis 😳 I normally only have 1 drink on a weekend (admittedly probably a double) but was out with friends who drink like fish. My stomach REALLY dislikes alcohol these days. Never again - lesson learned. I'm sticking to 2 drinks max.

Happleandhorange · 17/12/2025 04:40

I wish driving was a workout, I've driven eighteen hours in three days! Fabulous break. Back home now.

Happleandhorange · 18/12/2025 08:42

Made it back to gym tonight! Just did weights and stretches. It was great. The pool time seems to have really helped with shoulder flexibility, I am in so much less pain. This motivates me to hop in again tomorrow morning (I skipped today).

I should add there was a lot of walking as well whilst I was away. Not all car time!

Alittlefrustrated · 18/12/2025 21:46

46 x 25m swim
219.

BezMills · 19/12/2025 14:20

End of another successful week of the Crossfits for me. Tuesday was overhead work. My shoulder was funny (probably from co-sleeping with a restless spider crab aka DD8) so I ca'd canny (Fife for wisely went easy) and didn't have a go at handstand stuff. I wanted to but some days it's not your day!
Then we had a fun but quite brutal workout of Row, Plank (1 minute each * 3) then Burpees, Dead Hang off bar (same again). By the end of that my forearms resembled nothing so much as Jamons Iberico!

Yesterday nobody else turned up so I got effectively a 30 minutes PT on back squat (pretty good, can't complain) then it was a little bit weird (or could have been) since it was a paired workout. So the boss man just had me doing my half of stuff and for the time I worked, I then could stand still for the same time while my invisible training buddy did 'their half' of the reps. I didn't hate it, and I did some nice work on the bar.

Today was heavy bench press with my usual bench buddy. We did some nice work there, then the workout was skipping and dumbell snatch (pick up from floor an put it overhead). I smashed the skipping, apart from when my rope literally flew off the handle and I lost count, and the dumbell snatch was as you'd expect, a bloody slog!

Comtesse · 20/12/2025 12:55

Still going. 39 min walk with weighted vest in the sunshine this morning. 288 days on the bounce!

Have been trying to up the ante to 30 mins a day for 30 days (normal walking and cycling don’t count). Tbh that has been a bit much - have been working some very long days (14-15 hours) and trying to do 30 mins exercise as well has meant less sleep. Still day 30 tomorrow, it’s the challenge that changes us - but not sad about being a bit more chilled for a while.

Alittlefrustrated · 20/12/2025 19:26

Singing carols in my local country park, so took the opportunity for a brisk 4.5 mile walk.
220.

WearyAuldWumman · 21/12/2025 00:49

So... Wed was Senior Flex with Christmas music in the background. Mainly upper body with weights and wall push-ups. Lots of squats and leg flexing plus cardio.

Thursday - Musical Theatre Fitness - stretching and jumping about mainly. Lots of cardio. Followed by induction for the new gym equipment: mainly legs: abdudctor, adductor, leg press, leg extension, leg press. Also chest press and a shot of the new treadmills and bikes.

Enthusiastic trainer wanted to show me how to do a deadlift with kettlebells. Told him I'd used 9kg kettlebells for abdominal exercises before...He handed me two 12kg...Tried it. Told him immediately they were too heavy.

Handed me two 10 kg. Told him one was as much as I could manage....Hyperextended when I was putting them back on the shelf...Thought I'd ended my back for a second.

Friday morning - Active for Life class. Cardio, leg extensions, leg curls, chest press. Not a lot, but something.

Had a bad night, so no gym for Saturday.

Happleandhorange · 21/12/2025 06:44

@BezMills love your workout descriptions. I feel like I am there with you.
@WearyAuldWumman what a fright for your back!!!!
@Comtesse those long days would finish me off, well done for doing anything on top
@Alittlefrustrated I love the idea of carolling and walking together.

Happleandhorange · 21/12/2025 06:47

Today I did 24,000 steps, most of it on uneven ground climbing Rangitoto, a volcanic island close to Auckland CBD. It was brilliant but I got a horrible asthma attack which slowed us down, I need to check my new CPAP machine settings as I think it's been irritating my lungs.

Photo from the top - was worth it when we got there!

Keeping on exercising
Happleandhorange · 21/12/2025 06:47

Anyway, workout 75. I was particularly pleased that my ankle coped so well.

Well done!

That picture is beautiful.

BezMills · 21/12/2025 18:54

That's great @Happleandhorange it's so great to see the difference you're making to your life!

I've been struck down with some throaty laryngitis thing. My watch is flashing up various biomarkers out of range, and my "body battery" is sitting at zero. Can barely stand to swallow (managed to get two cans of chicken soup and a half pint of chocolate ice cream down, so I'll not waste away).

Such a pain but I'm not mad surprised, been feeling run down for many weeks now and have been in solo parentis for almost two weeks. Bladdy typical it strikes on the first day of my time off!

Happleandhorange · 22/12/2025 00:33

Oh no, @BezMills typical. Hope it gets, better in time for Christmas.

I went to Pilates with a friend today. Was great. I then spent a few minutes doing arm weights (reckoned legs had had enough work yesterday). It was very exciting, I can use chest and shoulder press comfortably again.

76! (I am owed cake)

Happleandhorange · 22/12/2025 04:36

@WearyAuldWumman thank you. My teen had the DSLR, so I was using my phone. But it's a good phone camera, so worth it.

stilldumdedumming · 23/12/2025 19:51

Hi I’m back from a viral flu type thing. I am sort of back. Managed a core class and the Xmas party Pilates. (Variations of plank pass the parcel anyone?!).

I am hoping to get to swimming tomorrow. I am working tomorrow but then off until 2 January.

2026 exercise goals/ commitments anyone?

FurForksSake · 23/12/2025 19:55

I managed a walk! First since surgery. It was only twenty minutes but I used my walking poles and it felt good. It was too far really, but it was inportabt.

2026 will be all about rehab, rebuilding my body and working out how to keep going with my hyper mobility, arthritis and repeatedly rebuilt hip.
