On another note, I was at the Crossfits again yesterday. I felt a wee bit sore still from Monday's big efforts, and I wasn't quite at my strongest during the weightlifting. I was fine with that, if it's not there, it's not there. I needed a wee moment to just tell myself 'this is just not your day to go big, just reduce the weight and do it properly'.

The workout was your typical CF nonsense. 100cal row, 80 dumbell snatch, 60 burpees, 40 dumbell clean+press, then back on the rower until the 20 minutes was up. Thank god it was in pairs, so I only did just over half of it. Today is a nice rest day, I'll go for a walk and that's as much exertion as I have planned (on top of the school runs, which are nice wee walks tbf).

@BezMills

Some of the men who work as class instructors and as gym supervisors are working amongst 2 or 3 gyms.

My impression is that it's worse for the women. They're running between gyms on a single day. One woman was running back and forth between Leven, Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy on the same day - Glenrothes in the morning, heading off elsewhere and back to Glenrothes at night.

I'm also bewildered as to what's happening with the registers. Fife went electronic. This was supposed to mean that there was no need for the instructors to keep a tally of numbers.

The reality: we book in either at the desk or one of of the check-in machines and get a ticket which we hand to the instructor. The instructor then has to collate and hand all the tickets to the front desk before rushing to their next class - it's crazy.

BezMills · 27/11/2025 15:46

I noticed that the instructors at Glenrothes needed to collect tickets. Presumably if they don't turn in the magic number they don't even get the full rate for that class. It's stupid really. Like I said before, they have one of the most experienced BodyCombat instructors in the UK. There's not that many people been doing it longer than her, and she's BRILLIANT. And the sports centre have seemingly no idea what an asset she is, and just treat her like that.

Alittlefrustrated · 27/11/2025 20:38

Just a brisk 3 mile dog walk today.
207.

stilldumdedumming · 27/11/2025 21:33

Just catching up.
My hard Pilates class is at a leisure centre - around 40 or so in the room. She is brilliant! So technical and challenging but supportive. She is employed by the leisure centre but would clean up with her own class.

Monday - cold and sad
Tuesday - hard core core, hard Pilates and evening yoga (which I find very hard even though I used to teach!)
Wednesday - hospital with dgs - the scary stuff rules out so phew!
Today - around 50x 25 m swim

Finding it hard to find my winter routine! I really wish I could walk - I miss it so much.

Happleandhorange · 28/11/2025 00:36

Started today with Black Friday madness before going into gym. Did brief warm up and weights only because wanted to get on to somewhere else (which was closed).
It feels like the shoulder work is becoming less appallingly agonising which is a relief.

In related news Ive ordered a theragun relief massage gun. Will report back if it works.

stilldumdedumming · 28/11/2025 12:59

@Happleandhorange my gym instructor has one. Her kneecap is in the wrong place and her muscles are gripping on for dear life. The idea is to encourage them to release. On the basis that the best physio I had did this with manual manipulation for me, I think it’s worth a go.

stilldumdedumming · 28/11/2025 13:00

50 x 25m
and a lower body class.

I drastically need to lose weight. My body has taken a shocking hit from all the disability malarkey. I’m also 52 so it’s a fair but harder than it used to be.

WearyAuldWumman · 28/11/2025 13:19

Went to the Active class this morning.

12 minutes on a bike, low resistance (cos of knee) to warm up.

Did my leg workout - 3X10 15kg for leg curl, leg extension and leg press in two different positions - upper, wide stance plus middle narrow stance.

Happleandhorange · 28/11/2025 17:30

Not going anywhere near a gym today (is my birthday party) but did manage to measure self. I've kept to the same measurements this month despite eating like a pig gentle training due to injury.

@stilldumdedumming - I sympathise. I really do have to shed a lot of kilos.

FurForksSake · 28/11/2025 19:12

Have a lovely day @Happleandhorange

i am counting physio as my exercise for today.

Booked into Pilates for tomorrow, but have cancelled online. I developed an upset stomach. (Dietary, I'm fairly certain. I'm at the 'adding things back in' stage of the FODMAP diet.)

Annoying.

Happleandhorange · 29/11/2025 15:27

Birthday party was great. Preparation was full-on: I walked twelve thousand steps despite not leaving the house and garden!!!!

Today I'm picking up some furniture so we will see how much stronger I've got.

Comtesse · 30/11/2025 01:45

Still going. Have done 30 mins everyday for a week (plus walking, cycling etc on top). Mix of jeffing, yoga, interval walking/ calisthenics videos, isometric exercises (planks, wall squats). Plus 15k steps today - knackered!

Placestogo · 30/11/2025 22:26

Hot yoga class - i have t done anything else this week because too many things happened and this cold, dark weather doesnt help…
ps: ive just placed an order on sweaty betty in the hope that a new kit moght motivate me…

Happleandhorange · 01/12/2025 09:06

Furniture moving and painting today in large quantities. Was great to realise how much stronger I am.
Tomorrow, big beach trip.

WearyAuldWumman · 01/12/2025 12:13

I have pilates this afternoon.

BezMills · 01/12/2025 12:36

Had the crossfits today, it was pullup type things. I'm slightly depressed that I've gone backwards on that, since I've started Crossfit. I've turned up 3 times a week for four months and actually decreased in capability in that area.

I guess the positive gloss on that is I've 'rebalanced' and gotten good at other things, but climbing is one of the main things I was hoping to get better at, so it's a sair one to actually be getting worse. Then I think "och it's my own fault for not doing extra work in between the crossfits" and I remind myself that I'm teetering on the edge of burnout and already gave myself a bladdy note from my mum to just do bare minimums for the rest of the year... My patience and my morale is being tested, but I'm just going to keep turning up!

The workout today was typical crossfit madness the Eton Mess of training. Rope stuff, ski erg, burpees and box step over, rowing erg. A minute each, 5 times. I didn't have that much oomph today, ngl but I got through it gamely I'd say.

Friday was much better. Turned up all fired up, did some really nice deadlifts at the beginning (set a new 3 rep max) then it was sandbag carrys and lifts for a nice short but heavy workout. Came out feeling pretty satisfied with that!

stilldumdedumming · 01/12/2025 22:10

Now then, don’t laugh. I decided that because I can’t walk properly, I am not moving my legs enough. so I have started doing those cheesy American walking videos! It was pretty fast but I can walk on the spot.

so today was
1 x 15 minute cheesy walker
30 or so minutes pretty pacey swim (with some 1 legged breaststroke!)

Happleandhorange · 02/12/2025 04:32

Big beach trip with 12000 steps accomplished. Quite a workout especially as much of that was scrambling up and down dunes.
How frustrating with the pullups!!! Can you cheat and train on the assisted pullup machine?
Lol at cheesy walking.

Alittlefrustrated · 02/12/2025 16:31

Sunday - 1hr Stomp Fit
208.
Monday - 1 hour pilates class
209.
Today - 40 x 25m swim
210.
Glad I squeezed the swim in as I seem now to be coming down with the flu-like symptoms that my DS has. I hope it's not because I've got a busy week planned. (And paid for 😕).

Happleandhorange · 03/12/2025 09:34

Absolutely shattered after the four days of Party/ Furniture Moving and Painting/ Big Beach trip.

So my only exercise was a walk to local shop today, which was still nice.

BezMills · 03/12/2025 09:58

Crossfits yesterday as well. Lots of bar work, which I was pleased with, then a really sprinty workout, which I actually enjoyed.

Traffic was an absolute mare due apparently to some malfunctioning lights. I spent almost 2 hours in the car yesterday just to train for 50 minutes (I was 10 minutes late as well). There is apparently 3 months of roadworks coming up, which will make 'bad traffic day' just every day. I'm considering pausing my crossfit membership for that period, and just training at the nearby gym on my own. I am fully too busy to spend hours and hours sitting in my car in order to train 3 times a week.

I still really enjoy the crossfit training generally and think that it's got a lot to offer me, but it's always a trade-off of my precious time. The commute to the gym isn't normally that bad - I've got used to it - but it's borderline already considering I spend more time driving than training as it is.

Happleandhorange · 03/12/2025 10:23

I would definitely pause membership then. I go mad with frustration if there's a queue on way to,gym.

BezMills · 03/12/2025 10:59

Annoyingly, there is a much closer Basically Crossfit But Didn't Want To Pay Affiliation Subs gym, but it's also on the other end of the roadworks! It is doable by bike tho...
