Anyone want to join me?
Yes I know it’s an oldie but I did it about 15 years ago and it was really effective.
I’ve just done day one and the weights and abs stuff weren’t too bad but the cardio nearly killed me, I’m more unfit than I realised.

Hello and a happy new year to you Shredders 👋

I have returned! 3 weeks holiday in September, followed by a 3 month dieting club from the local council that gave you free access to the gym, and now I’m back.

Although I intended to make use of the free swimming, I never got there in the end, however, I made good use of the gym and the Tanita Body Composition scales until the end of November when I was struck down with flu. Christmas has been an alarming round of eating and drinking so I decided I had to start again today. Therefore:

L1D1 of 30DS complete with most moves done at Natalie level (only stopped when my hair fell down and I upped weights at one point). I’m most likely going to go back to every other day exercising but you never know with resolutions… 😀

OublietteBravo · 03/01/2026 08:54

Hello 👋

I also restarted yesterday with 30DS L1D1.

IDareSay · 03/01/2026 10:00

"only stopped when my hair fell down” that proper made me laugh @Saggyoldclothbody as it’s the kind of thing that happens to me too 😅

Good to see you @OublietteBravo

I’m starting back Monday with Jillian's ‘Ripped in 30’ which is very similar to 30 Day Shred and should ease me gently into 2026…ha!

Saggyoldclothbody · 04/01/2026 11:34

L1D2 30DS done ✔️ In spite of my muscles aching like mad but DP is coming down with a cold so, if I succumb, I might not feel like it during the week.

@IDareSayI can’t bear my hair down when exercising - and realised today it’s the butt kicks that have the right action to loosen the ponytail 😊

OublietteBravo · 04/01/2026 19:17

I also did a somewhat reluctant 30DS L1D2. I’m glad I made myself do it.

IDareSay · 05/01/2026 11:27

Week 1 Day 1 of Ripped in 30 done.

It’s the same format as 30 DS so very familiar, and only 20 minutes, made up of 3 sessions of 3 minutes strength, 2 minutes cardio and 1 minute abs with a warm up to start and cool down to finish. Nothing complicated. Felt like a (fairly) gentle way to ease back in! Compared to Body Revolution anyway 😂

Hair stayed up through the butt kicks @Saggyoldclothbody thanks to a very deep headband as well as a ponytail 😀

Reluctant exercise is always more of an achievement @OublietteBravo Mine was certainly in that category today but I know I will feel better for it by the end of the week. 💪

IDareSay · 06/01/2026 12:55

Week 1 Day 2 of Ripped in 30 done.

Felt tougher today, maybe because I am no longer fuelled by cake 🙄

OublietteBravo · 06/01/2026 19:06

I did 30DS L1D3 yesterday. No Jillian today, as I went out with the running group at work. I must be mad! 3.8 miles in the snow, and then back to a changing room with no heating and icy cold showers!

IDareSay · 07/01/2026 12:44

Wow @OublietteBravo that’s dedication!

Week 1 Day 3 of Ripped in 30 done.

Tough again today, I feel physically tired. Think it may be because I have burned up my glycogen stores now and I’m eating fairly low carb. Hopefully I will pick up later in the week as my body gets used to burning fat stores again.

OublietteBravo · 07/01/2026 20:44

30DS L1D4. Apparently I ache in different places after yesterday’s run!

IDareSay · 08/01/2026 11:28

Week 1 Day 4 of Ripped in 30 done.

Felt slightly easier today, perhaps because I had more calories yesterday than I did on Monday and Tuesday. Who knows. Enjoying a nice crunchy apple before summoning up the effort to go out and get wet with the dogs!

OublietteBravo · 08/01/2026 19:15

30DS L1D5. Seemed OK today - possibly because I was utterly delighted not to have to go out in the rain!!

IDareSay · 09/01/2026 12:49

Week 1 Day 5 of Ripped in 30 done.

Did all 20 press ups (2 lots of 10) without dropping to knees. I could barely do one last year when I started Jillianing 😁

Couldn’t avoid rain here yesterday @OublietteBravo The dogs hate it but still insist on going out. Never seen them pee and poop so quickly 🙄

OublietteBravo · 09/01/2026 19:05

I’m impressed @IDareSay! I struggled with proper press-ups even when I’ve been diligently Jillianing.

30DS L1D6. It seemed much easier today. In fact, I think the hardest bit is psyching myself up to get changed into my kit. I’m planning a rest day tomorrow.

IDareSay · 12/01/2026 12:33

Week 1 Day 6 of Ripped in 30 done on Saturday and took a rest day yesterday. I’m really feeling my dodgy hip just lately so trying to ensure I don’t overdo it. Must chase up my surgeon; he didn’t think it looked ‘too bad’ on my last X-ray and MRI but that was over a year ago. I’m hoping he can put me on the list for replacement now on the NHS but he said they wouldn’t sanction it based on the last examination.

Ridiculous really; if I end up losing even more mobility then I’m going to get even more problems and I won’t recover as well as I did last time. Gah, apologies for moan.

Anyway, just done Week 2 Day 1 and it’s one of those sessions where you think ‘this isn’t too bad’ and then end up collapsed in a heap 😅

OublietteBravo · 12/01/2026 19:31

That sounds incredibly frustrating. And so shortsighted to leave it until it’s even more debilitating and recovery is likely to be more arduous.

i had an accidental rest day yesterday. Back to it today though: 30DS L1D7. I upped the weights from 1kg dumbbells to 2kg dumbbells too (I also have 3kg dumbbells and 5kg dumbbells, but I’m definitely not ready for those yet)!

IDareSay · 13/01/2026 13:10

Week 2 Day 2 of Ripped in 30 done.

I’m mostly using 1.5kg with 3kg for a few exercises. I want to replace the 1.5kg with 2kg and ordered some last week for next day delivery but they still aren’t here 😡Ah well.

Just waiting for the very heavy rain to stop then out with the woofers. It’s so grey and wet it’s depressing but at least the wind has dropped.

OublietteBravo · 13/01/2026 19:13

I didn’t make it out with the Tuesday running group this week. Instead I spent 1.5 hours with IT trying to get to the point where I could actually print documents. So it was exercise DVD time this evening: 30DS L1D8

Saggyoldclothbody · 14/01/2026 11:51

L1 D3 done.

As expected, I fought off then succumbed to a cold last week. Even with that break, I can tell how much my cardio has been affected as my max heart rate was 7-8bpm more than when I started again at the beginning of the year.

I swap between 1.5 and 3kg weights depending on the exercise - if it doesn’t include any type of cardio, I can use the heavier weight (and possibly the 5kg weight I’ve got too) but struggle to lift them and move around at the same time. However, I see Caroline Girvan swinging her 16kg kettlebell around on her pinkie and wonder whether I’d ever be capable of that 🏋️‍♀️😊

IDareSay · 14/01/2026 12:49

Week 2 Day 3 of Ripped in 30 done.

2kg weights finally arrived last night so I retired the 1.5kg. No problems with any of the exercises so going up in small increments is obviously the way to go for me.

What is it with printers @OublietteBravo ? They were always a pain in the bum everywhere I worked. At least you are nearly a third of the way through the shred now though 😀

Agree with you about the heart rate @Saggyoldclothbody same for me, and my VO2 max. I won’t be taking a two week break again, the gains are too easily lost for me. A 16kg kettlebell?! I’ll have to go and check out some of her videos!
As Jillian uses so many compound moves I have to be completely confident in them before increasing weights; e.g. pendulum lunges with bicep curls have to be nailed on before I go heavier or I lose my balance too easily.

In other news, I put in an e-consult to request the GP refers me back to the surgeon for my hip and annoyingly I have to go in and see the GP. Complete waste of an appointment; if they had read the surgeon’s letter it clearly states the GP should refer me back if my symptoms worsen so I have no idea why they want to see me first to describe the issues I clearly described in the e-consult. Just another hoop to jump through and the appointment isn’t for two bloody weeks. I hate all the time-wasting and repetition in the NHS 😡

OublietteBravo · 14/01/2026 18:18

No Jillian for me today. Because it was sunny at lunchtime, and I had my running kit in the car boot, so I went out and ran a 5km loop. A bit muddy and slippery down some of the farm tracks - which I’m using as my excuse for coming in over 30 mins.

IDareSay · 15/01/2026 15:25

Crikey, anywhere near 30 minutes is awesome @OublietteBravo
The fastest I ever did was 37 minutes, and that was some years ago!

Week 2 Day 4 of Ripped in 30 done. Felt stronger today. I was really wiped out yesterday, even walking the dogs was hard going, it felt like gravity had been turned up! Back to normal today which is a relief, I was worried I was coming down with a lurgy.

Halfway through January tomorrow thank goodness.

OublietteBravo · 15/01/2026 20:16

Back to Jillianing. 30DS L1D9. Almost completed L1. I’m already feeling a sense of trepidation about L2. I’ve done lots and lots of Jillian’s workouts, and 30DS L2 is my nemesis!

Saggyoldclothbody · 16/01/2026 12:07

L1D4 complete. Much better stamina than Wednesday, and I even tried to use my 3kg weights and managed everything apart from the side lunges with weights. Form on the second round of pushups was badly affected though.

All completed with some beady eyes on me which was very apparent on the abs sections 👀

IDareSay · 16/01/2026 15:20

Your post brought back some happy memories @Saggyoldclothbody

One of my dear departed dogs used to lay on my tummy when I was doing sit-ups and stare at me just like that 😁
Fine for sit ups, but he would stay there when I was doing bridges and he weighed 10kg! Certainly made it more of a challenge 💪

Week 2 Day 5 of Ripped in 30 done. It really is quite a short session, only 20 active minutes, so not as good for calorie burning; it’s been good to get me gently back into the habit of exercising every day after 2 weeks off at Christmas.

Looking forward to finishing it and choosing something a little longer.
