Good effort @Pelo22, working out on jebus birthday!

I might make it out for a brisk walk tomorrow, I need it!

iloveeverykindofcat · 26/12/2022 06:12

I'm looking forward to getting back to the gym tomorrow. Day off yesterday (Xmas day) but today I'll do a long steady-state cardio ride on the bike. Hope everyone's Christmas was good if you like Christmas or tolerable if you don't.

Sick dramatic corgi is picking up, he's started eating again and seems a bit more like himself. I still can't get over the fact he's genetically predisposed to the disease of royalty, due to his breeding. Luckily steroids are a cheap drug once you get the regime right.

SophieLion · 26/12/2022 08:51

Epic heat day 39 (full body dumbbell), a shirt Lilly Sabrina Pilates abs workout and a CG 5 min plank (far too hard)

Days exercised 228

Pelo22 · 26/12/2022 13:25

30 min advanced beginner spin class and 10 min upper body strength
Easy day

roonetta · 26/12/2022 15:45

Well done on the PB Pelo!

Glad to hear the dramatic pup is on the mend Cat Smile

50 minute strength workout with Natalie Hayward done. Not sure whether it was a tough workout or if it was due to over indulging Christmas Day with not very much sleep. Whichever it was, I felt nauseous and actually feel worse for doing it, which hardly ever happens. Might aim for a nice Walk With Leslie tomorrow instead.

Days exercised 205

Went back to the gym this morning, did weights and 45 min steady state cardio. It wasn't spectacular but I was glad to be back. Will try for a bit of HIIT on the bike tomorrow. I'm creeping a bit of HIIT in because I need a new challenge that doesn't involve joint impact. I am gradually increasing the weight amounts but its terribly slow going. I am not a person who gains strength easily.

SophieLion · 29/12/2022 11:08

Hi cat, if you want to increase weight then I found Caroline girvan's iron series great for this. Plus it was also the most enjoyable one for me - I think you also liked it Roonetta?

And sorry you felt so rubbish during your workout Roonetta. Hopefully it was just over-indulgence and you're not coming down with something.

Today a 7km interval run, the bowflex plank, short CG abs workout and her 20 min stretch (cos I had time and normally terrible at stretching)

Days exercised 229

SophieLion · 30/12/2022 15:41

4 hours skiing 😊

Days exercised 230

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 31/12/2022 10:46

Hi all, hope everyone had a good Christmas. I've not posted for a while as work went crazy, we had a crisis with MIL and I was too embarrassed about how sporadically I've been exercising! I also stopped counting days, but think I just missed my target for the year (though I did complete Bodyshred, which was my other goal). I've been using the Christmas break to try to kickstart getting fit again - back on 30DS yet again in the mornings, and doing Yoga with Adriene in the evenings, as well as doing the odd yoga or Pilates class. I feel a bit better for it, but really unfit, which is annoying.

I'm not going to set a goal for next year - I know it's going to be a tough one for lots of reasons and a challenging goal will just be setting myself up to fail - so I'm just going to plan to exercise as and when I can to keep ticking over, and then maybe when things get easier I can commit to something a bit more structured.

SophieLion · 31/12/2022 16:11

Hope your MIL is ok now Cat. I think your no goal strategy is good. For what it's worth, a two or three years ago I managed around 280 days of exercise but I actually feel stronger right now - I think it's the Caroline girvan workouts for me. So really is quality over quantity and whatever we manage to do can be quality exercise.

DD was ill so no skiing for me today. But managed a 40 min yoga session. Hopefully back to skiing tomorrow.

Happy New Year to you all!!!!! 🎉🎊🥂Thank you for being such supportive and inspirational exercise buddies in 2022 ❤️

Days exercised 231 (and that's me done for 2022)

roonetta · 31/12/2022 17:02

Nice to see you back Professor! Life really does get in the way of our best intentions, so any exercise which can be squeezed in has got to be better than none at all.

Great point about quality over quantity Sophie. I am really missing the Girvan workouts as she definitely does make you feel stronger. You must have some fab definition now. What size weights are you using? I did love the iron series as I found it much slower paced.

My arm is much improved from taking it easy with the lighter weights, but I am hoping to get back to Girvan workouts at some point (maybe if she brings out an app Hmm). In the meantime I will continue with the Pilates and some walking with Leslie.

I have been very lazy this week. I had really intense DOMS following the Pilates workout I did on Monday so needed the rest. My Pilates ring arrived at last today (saved my DH wrapping it ) so hoping to have a go with that soon.

My goal for 2023 is similar to @BezMills - I'd like to get stronger and leaner and hopefully lose a few menopause pounds if possible. Also aiming to improve my diet.

Happy New Year fitness friends! Here's to a happy and healthy 2023

🥳🥂💝

Argh sorry if I got cat and professor muddled up - I can't be sure as the post in question has disappeared from my thread.

Thank you Roonetta. Will get back to you on everything else ❤️

BezMills · 31/12/2022 18:57

Cheers everyone, and thanks for the CG recommendations, have already passed on to a friend!

All the best in 23!

Pelo22 · 31/12/2022 19:17

HNY everyone. I'm ending the year with covid GrinAngry and many anti viral drugs

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 31/12/2022 21:16

Happy new year everyone! Congrats on grear achievements this year, especially 231 days Sophie. I hope the new year brings health and happiness to everyone. (And specifically Pelo and Sophie jr.) My stupid dose has been back over the last few days but I hope I'll be OK to start as I mean to go on tomorrow.

Pelo22 · 31/12/2022 21:17

Thank you. Couldn't have made this year up! Grin
If I didn't laugh I would cry

iloveeverykindofcat · 01/01/2023 06:18

Happy new year everyone. I won't be doing the gym this week because I'm using some holiday time to deep clean my whole flat and some of my mother's house, but I will keep up core work, including some Caroline Girvan, for the sake of my back. Boring but unavoidable at least a couple of times a year when you have pets (I have, as you might guess, 2 cats). I'm not sure if I have a set fitness goal for the year other than get stronger and improve HIIT tolerance. I hear that sometimes if you take a week off weights you can lift heavier when you get back to it - let's see if it works. Oof @Pelo22 sorry about the Covid. I might be jinxing myself by saying this but I seem to be one of the weird people that's immune. I've never had it, despite consistent testing and being close to a lot of people who had it. I even had to spend a few days in a hospital where it was rampant during the summer of 2020 - nothing.

OublietteBravo · 01/01/2023 11:16

Happy New Year!

I’m determined to get back to regular exercise. December somehow got lost amongst actual parties and the DC being at home.

iloveeverykindofcat · 02/01/2023 06:12

Today two of my outdoorsy friends are visiting and we will do a long hike - I live in semi rural Wales so we do have some very nice places to go. They're both extremely fit in a 'have sumitted mountains over a few days' rather than gym way, whereas I'm more of an 'exercise hard, then sit down for sedentary job' type.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 02/01/2023 09:30

Happy New Year!

I had an exercise fail yesterday- I booked into a class called ‘rocket yoga’ at the studio where I normally go to yoga and Pilates classes. It was rubbish for someone like me, though I can see it might work for someone young, fit and flexible. The name ought to have given me a clue, really! Fifteen minutes in, my wrists were killing me from high speed plank-to-chaturanga-to downward-dog sequences and I had a lightbulb moment- this wasn’t school PE, I could just leave rather than do the whole class and injure myself. So I did, and used the time to take myself out for a bowl of noodles and a glass of wine Blush. I did an online yoga practice at bedtime, though.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Pelo.

Pilates class today - they’re normally pretty good so there shouldn’t be a repeat of yesterday. Have a great hike, cat. (I think I’m immune to COVID too, unless I had it with no symptoms after regular testing stopped.)

BezMills · 02/01/2023 10:12

I had a similar experience to that @ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson

I was returning to exercise after about a year off due to serious illness. I went to a kettlebell class full of super-fit gym mums. I had a KB a bit too heavy for the number of reps we were doing and had a horrible time. I ended up taking a knee for the last 10 minutes, was just absolutely drained. I got incredible DOMS in my biceps and couldn't straighten my arms for about 3 days. My main mistake was trying to keep up with people a lot fitter than I was. I should have just taken the lightest possible weight and sandbagged it for the entire class or even stopped half way. Pride can be quite stupid sometimes.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 02/01/2023 11:00

That sounds like a brutal class, Professor! We had unexpected visitors yesterday so no exercise (i did 15k steps though). I got out early this morning to make sure I didn't miss it again. Dog and I did our run/walk/sniff/squirrel route. It was 0 degrees and gorgeous sunshine so a lovely start to the day and my exercise year.

Days Exercised 1

OublietteBravo · 02/01/2023 19:35

I didn’t even attempt exercise yesterday, although I did manage 15,000 steps.

I did my first exercise DVD of the year this evening: Hard Body (level 1) - 45 min.

(1/20)

iloveeverykindofcat · 03/01/2023 08:17

Flipping heck that hike was 3hrs! My friends are too fit 😆. Keeping up with a daily short core isolation plus a lot of walking and deep cleaning this week. I booked it off work. Next week will be back to the gym.

So, do those of you that do a lot of Caroline Girvan etc at home own your own dumbells? What happens when you get strong enough that the dumbells aren't challenging anymore? Do you have to keep buying heavier ones?
