Does anyone fancy a C25K thread, starting on 2nd or 3rd Jan?

I'd love to get back into running now that I've fully recovered from an injury. No one I know wants to do it with me Grin so I think I'll download C25K and start in Jan.

Anyone know which is the best app? Last time I tried, the app kept getting ads on it which wrecked the timings. I want to avoid that if possible.

Any takers?

One more run this week for us rookies and then we can claim our white rosettes!

Week 1 done for me, but I will be repeating it a few more times before moving onto week 2.

Does anyone else much prefer running in the dark? I really struggle when it's light, but always seem to enjoy it when there's the cover of darkness Grin.

The NHS C25K keeps crashing for me, I've reinstalled a few times but it's still not working, so started using another app by zen labs.

Wanted to go out today but we overslept, it’s icy out, and a school maintenance issue has given us a surprise day of homeschool 😩

hivemindneeded · 05/01/2022 13:42

@IDKAYBIF32
Have a rosette!
Got to be honest I won't remember to hand them out to every individual but first to complete each level can have one as a badge for us all. Feel free to award them to yourselves [grin!]

Ahh I wanted to get out early this morning but it's -1 and I'm tucked up in bed instead. Bit gutted, I don't want to lose my momentum really. Home with toddler today.

PurpleDaisies · 06/01/2022 08:38

I’ve also been caught out by ice. The road I normally run along is like a skating rink. I’m feeling really stiff from a weights workout yesterday so I might try a yoga type session and see how I feel later.

It’s the first time in a long time I’ve been disappointed not to be able to run.

Effitall · 06/01/2022 09:55

Week one complete and I actually enjoyed it! Had to remind myself to slow down a bit when I was getting out of breath, but I kept going!

Well done @Effitall. I am off now to do my final Week 1 run, in deep frost. Looks lovely out there!

@PurpleDaisies I reckon at a push you could jog it on the spot in your kitchen.

Lovely that you are sad to miss a run though. Shows how addictive it is.

I'm in. I've done C25K twice before, once last year and once the year before. I can confirm it works and was up to running 6k in 50 mins at my best. Excuses tend to get me out the running habit but the feeling of achievement is brilliant when you complete each stage.

heywhatswrongwitu · 06/01/2022 14:17

@purpledaisies actually I feel the same!! That's something right?

greengoose21b · 06/01/2022 20:26

I managed my third run today (W3R2) and actually found myself running on for an extra two minutes after the final 3 minute run. There was a good song on, and my legs were quite happy to keep going. I'll probably be crippled tomorrow, as I did a Pilates session last night too.

Respect to all of you outdoor runners. I'm not ready for that yet. When I can run long enough to find it too boring on the treadmill I'll join you. Smile

Definitely! I’m going tomorrow, rain or shine. I think we’ve actually got snow forecast. I can’t wait!

Today I’ve been to Zumba so still got some exercise in. I noticed I felt more bouncy than usual. It might just be psychological but I’ll take it.

Well done to the runners who went today. Loving the encouragement on here.

grapejuice14 · 06/01/2022 23:35

Week One complete! Feeling really pleased and looking forward to the next round

rubymaster · 07/01/2022 07:16

Week 1 complete! Tried to stretch myself a bit today and do shorter walking intervals in preparation for week 2. Wasn’t too bad although I’ve realised there’s not a massive difference between my brisk walk and slow jog pace 😅

Jfw82 · 07/01/2022 08:18

W1R3 done! Was so good getting out in fresh air. Need to work out what to do on non running days as I remember last time getting super keen and wanting to run extra days but then suffered for it!

IDKAYBIF32 · 07/01/2022 09:19

@hivemindneeded

Thanks for the rosette!

I got up early today to go for a run before work, but it was really icy so I went home and did 30 minutes on my exercise bike instead. Will try again tomorrow!

OK Group rosette for all those who have completed C25K W1 3 runs. Well done to all of us.

Week 2 coming up...

Reminder of Week 2 schedule.

Week 2 Day 1
The runs this week start with a 5 minute warm-up walk. This is followed by 6 repetitions of 90sec running, and by 2min brisk walking. Finally, finish with a gentle 5min cool-down walk.

Week 2 Day 2
The runs this week start with a 5 minute warm-up walk. This is followed by 6 repetitions of 90sec running, and by 2min brisk walking. Finally, finish with a gentle 5min cool-down walk.

Week 2 Day 3
The runs this week start with a 5 minute warm-up walk. This is followed by 6 repetitions of 90sec running, and by 2min brisk walking. Finally, finish with a gentle 5min cool-down walk.

If it helps, pledge your timetable here.

I'm going to do my runs on Monday, Thursday and Sunday next week as my bootcamps and yoga sessions restart on the other days. Can't bloody wait. I really want to get fitter and lose weight this year. I am almost at top end of BMI healthy weight now and I want to be comfortably in the middle of it by the end of the year without any strict dieting, just healthy eating and lots of exercise.

I’m late to the party but I think il start on Monday . Great job so far everyone

RestingPandaFace · 07/01/2022 09:56

I started in November. I used to run a lot but injured myself quite badly and then my DS came along. He’s 5 so I needed to stop using him as an excuse Blush.

I’m going really slowly and repeating weeks at I was over 20 stone at the start and I’m asthmatic. I also had two weeks off over Christmas with a chest infection.

I’m about to move on to week 3 but I’ve actually done 10 runs and covered 25km total. I’ve lost 8 lb since I started Grin and I am really enjoying it.

I’m using the zombies to 5K app as the NHS one was too jolly for me!

Well done everyone for this week!

Effitall · 08/01/2022 09:39

Week 2 run 1 done.

It was drizzling but I feel great!

grapejuice14 · 08/01/2022 10:25
