Does anyone fancy a C25K thread, starting on 2nd or 3rd Jan?

I'd love to get back into running now that I've fully recovered from an injury. No one I know wants to do it with me Grin so I think I'll download C25K and start in Jan.

Anyone know which is the best app? Last time I tried, the app kept getting ads on it which wrecked the timings. I want to avoid that if possible.

Any takers?

@BuanoKubiamVej

I started this morning at week 5 because having done it before I felt I didn't need the early weeks. It went OK but I had forgotten how difficult it is to hear the instructor voice over my preferred quite loud rock mustlic. The app settings only let you go +2 in volume compared to the music. When I did the c25k before I gave up on music because I couldn't hear the voice but I really don't want to do that this time. Is the an app that lets you balance the sound streams from other apps better?
I find 5k Runner very audible. It's available on app store.
shalalala · 03/01/2022 19:39

I started today - week 1/day 1 completed!
Felt ok (better than it did when I did it a couple of years ago). Determined to do it this time

I had this problem but didn't used to in earlier versions of C25k. I think I've solved it today by deleting the app and re-installing it.

I started a thread without spotting this one. Nice to see lots of us doing the c25k.
@Jessesgirl13 I’m also starting at week 4. I’ve done the first two runs and it’s run three tomorrow. I’m exactly the same in that I found it a challenge but doable, just! Probably about the right level for me.

BuanoKubiamVej · 03/01/2022 23:02

Thanks @Haffdonga I'll give that a try.

@Muchmorethan

Hi everyone. I started the C25K in July using the NHS app, Strava and Amazon music.

I have never done exercise before and l have no idea what made me even start.

Week one ...l couldn't even keep going for 60s.... l had to repeat the run 7 times until l did!

Were you sprinting too fast? I think a slow jog at first is actually better, then once C25K is complete, work on developing speed-stamina and sprints.

Day 2 tomorrow for me. Anyone else on Day 2 tomorrow?

I'll be on run 3 of week 1 tomorrow, though I think I'm going to repeat it a couple more times before moving on to week 2. Slow and steady!

Jfw82 · 04/01/2022 08:25

Another late starter here - I completed C to 5k in 2020 then completely lost it in lockdown and haven't run since. Just done w1r1 with Sanjeev this morning and feeling so energised!

BuanoKubiamVej · 04/01/2022 09:15

@Muchmorethan I had to start off with 30 seconds at a time, then moved on to 45 seconds and eventually started managing 60 seconds. I completed the programme and was fine running for 30 minutes - even built up to running for an hour? Though I have now regressed to finding 5 minutes quite challenging due to getting out of practice but your body really does adapt - you can do this, your abilities increase in proportion as you gradually increase what you are attempting.

heywhatswrongwitu · 04/01/2022 09:52

Run 3 done yay!! Bit scared about moving on to week 2 though..

Muchmorethan · 04/01/2022 09:59

@hivemindneeded l think l was definitely going to fast. I can run 5k but it will never be in 30mins. Currently my best is 39mins.

I'm slowly increasing my distance and am up to 6k now

Muchmorethan · 04/01/2022 10:00

If anyone is on FB, there is a c25k group which l found really helpful

Muchmorethan · 04/01/2022 10:01

Hope I'm not too late to join! Have tried C25K loads and never completed it but am determined to finish this time around! Week 1, run 2 complete. Not as hard as I thought so fingers crossed 🤞

Effitall · 04/01/2022 12:36

Week 1 run 2 done! Found it a bit harder today, think my body is in shock!!

HeyJackKerouac · 04/01/2022 13:11

Can I join? Did run 2 today. Felt ok. I'm also a previous graduate having completed this about 10 yrs ago as part of a jogging group. At that time I even got as far as completing 2 half marathons. But then I let it all slide away from me which I really regret.

A couple of tips from me. First, plan your routes to include some hills if possible. If you hope to move on to longer runs in the future then hills are going to feature so best to incorporate them from the beginning even if you have to walk in bits at the start. Also, get used to carrying a water bottle from the beginning. You will definitely need done for longer runs.

Good luck everyone

Amazing how many of us have either not managed to complete c25k in the past, or got to the end and didn’t manage to keep making time for it. Hopefully 2022 will be the year 🤞

I know. I wondered about that. I did once join a running group hwere the leader said she thought you shouldn't learn to run by stop0-starting, but just take tiny steps and slow right down but keep running at all times. Got to admit I improved a lot quicker doing it her way but I like that C25K is so structured.

To keep us going, I decided on my 2nd run just now, I am handing out virtual rosettes at the end of each week Grin
week 1 - white
week 2 - yellow
week 3 - orange
week 4 - blue
week 5 - green
week 6 - red
week 7 - bronze
week 8 - silver
week 9 - gold

And when we hit gold we can start a new thread of the 5k runs we are entering and then the 5-milers and then the 10ks...

I claim my week 4 rosette! I’ve just done run 3 abs it was hard. I did a different route and it seemed like every time I had to start a new running time I hit the bottom of a hill. I know it’s really good for building fitness, but still. I am knackered! At least the temperature was cold enough to stop me from literally boiling from the inside out.

I think I’ll try and work on my week not starting on a Wednesday which is weird!

MrsTophamHat · 04/01/2022 17:38

I'm a previous c25ker and so I decided to start at Week 3. I do think a lot of it is mind over matter and I can remember how to breathe and manage my effort levels while sort of zoning out. The session today was a bit on the easy side. I felt as though I could have done closer to 4/5 minutes so I'm really pleased. I haven't run since last April!

I'd really like to sign myself up for a 10k this year. I've no interest in training for anything longer than about an hour but that seems like a reasonable goal!

rubymaster · 04/01/2022 21:21

Week 1 - day 2 run complete. Was a lot harder to motivate myself to get out today but actually enjoyed it and pleased that I did!

I live at the top of a hill and all my running routes seem to spiral around and around to avoid ever having to go straight up. Hills are killers.
Shopgirl1 · 04/01/2022 22:29

Best of luck all, stick with it! I did the NHS podcast C25K in March 2021 and kept running after it. It’s an amazing sport once you get past the initial few weeks. I now run 50km a week, ran a half marathon in November, have done a 48 minute 10km and have managed a 22 minute 5km race. If I can do it anyone can!

hivemindneeded · 04/01/2022 23:21

I found it harder today,. I felt a bit stiff and it was so cold out! Cheated a bit as I ended up home after final run so went and did stretches in the garden instead of the walk cool down. But had been on a two hour walk yesterday so reckoned 5 mins was not going to make much difference.
