Does anyone fancy a C25K thread, starting on 2nd or 3rd Jan?

I'd love to get back into running now that I've fully recovered from an injury. No one I know wants to do it with me Grin so I think I'll download C25K and start in Jan.

Anyone know which is the best app? Last time I tried, the app kept getting ads on it which wrecked the timings. I want to avoid that if possible.

Any takers?

Sprry that last comment was for *@MichaelAndEagle*
Thanks and @purplesequins Headphones always fall out of my ears! Even just when walking.
hivemindneeded · 02/01/2022 13:26

The ones that came free with my phone (Samsung Galaxy) are brilliant. They have little rounded pointy bits that tuck the earphone into the ear. Really comfortable and don't fall out. the only ones I've ever had that work properly.

I think these are the right ones, or similar.

I use these headphones and like Jo Whiley on the nhs app.

Run one done. It wasn’t as awful as I remember but my dog is an idiot.

My DS has those, I might borrow them and give it a try.

Can I join? I nearly completed C25k a couple of times a few years ago which was something of a miracle because I'm the least sporty person in the world. But I've never been able to keep on running. I started from scratch again today after building up mentally for several months Blush

I used Jo Whiley but the app didn't turn down my music when she was speaking (I'm sure it used to do that) so I could hardly hear her telling me when to start running. I always seemed to know when to stop though!

purplesequins · 02/01/2022 17:53

if you find simple running too boring the zombie run app is also good zombiesrungame.com/

Takeittotheboss · 02/01/2022 18:29

I'll join, but not till Friday as late return to school for my lot!
Have done c25k twice, but running seems to drop off my radar once I've completed it,which is just mad? Determined to actually become a runner before I'm any older or fatter😋

Takeittotheboss · 02/01/2022 18:30

Oh, and I like Jo Whiley on the NHS app.

AlexaShutUp · 02/01/2022 18:54

I have decided to do the 5k on the treadmill this time, as I found it hard to contend with the weather last year. Motivated myself to get to the gym today only to find that it was closed until Tuesday!Shock So it looks like I'm starting on Tuesday now!!

Longsleepneeded · 02/01/2022 20:26

Well done to those who have started! I'm psyching myself up for Thursday.

heywhatswrongwitu · 02/01/2022 20:48

I'm using jo Whiley too - it seems to be lowering the volume of my music ok when she's speaking. Run 2 done this morning - lush sunrise too so felt very smug. I'm mainly doing it for mental health but could do with shifting some lbs too

PrincessMaryaBolkonskaya · 02/01/2022 21:04

Well done to everyone who ran today. I have Denise Lewis on the nhs app. I love her. I struggle with music choice though. I think I’ll listen to an audible book or a podcast or something.

greengoose21b · 02/01/2022 21:20

I did it...treadmill, not outdoors yet, and with Sanjeev Kohli as my companion. I do love a Scottish accent.

I decided to start on WK 2 Run 3....which is the 6 x 90 second runs...to see how I got on. All fine, and there's something nice about being able to shave a couple of weeks of my time to target.

Question on headphones before I set out into the outside world. I want some of the kind that have hooks over your ears...as I feel that will offer the lowest chance of losing them and the best ability to hear environmental noises...traffic etc. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Policyschmolicy · 02/01/2022 21:22

I have some aftershokz bone conduction headphones that I like for running. They’re comfortable and allow you to hear what’s going on around you.

purplesequins · 02/01/2022 21:27

so far all headphones made for exercising I have seen are the ones you have to push into your ear.
I don't get on with those.
but the cheapo ones with wire between ear pieces work fine for me. if I lose one the wire stops it dropping completely.

Heruka · 02/01/2022 21:29

Sanjeev Kohli is definitely the one to go for on the nhs app! Like others I got to week 7 last yr and stopped, I had a mild proplapse after my second baby and my pelvic floor wasn’t happy.

I started again in November and found I was way fitter than expected, tried a few of the weeks until it was strenuous and started from week 5. Today I did week 9 run 1, it was fecking hard as last run was Xmas eve, but I did it and felt proud. Just thought I’d pitch in to encourage folk who have done it before, and those who haven’t - it’s amazing. I’ve never been ‘a winner’ at sport and this makes me feel like one.

BuanoKubiamVej · 02/01/2022 21:39

Joining the thread a little late. I have done c25k before but am out of practice and not managing to sustain more than a few minutes of running at a time, so I need to start again.

I used the BBC/NHS c25k app before and there were no adverts. Unfortunately the trainer voice I used before has been removed which is annoying but I guess it will be good to try a different voice 2nd time around.

oishutup · 02/01/2022 21:41

Yes, please! I really need this. About 3 stone overweight, pretty unfit and need to do some cardio. Starting tomorrow....

SomethingAboutNothing · 02/01/2022 22:44

I'm thinking about starting C25K again, I have done it a few times, the most recent getting up to end of week 6 but studies and placement got in the way and laziness

rubymaster · 02/01/2022 23:08

Completed my first run, also with Denise on the NHS app. Hoping I can keep it up!

I'll look at getting some of those, thank you. The idea of not being able to hear what's going on around me is scary.
hivemindneeded · 03/01/2022 09:36

Everyone welcome, including all the 'late' starters.

Jessesgirl13 · 03/01/2022 10:16

Can I join?

Im actually on week 4 at the min. Started the nhs c25k app (with Denise Lewis) in November at 5 months postpartum so things like kids/weather/daylight and viruses have slowed me down a bit! Grin

Ive never run before though and I'm finding it really good! Pushing me just enough that i feel like I've done a workout but not too far to make me feel like I'm dying!

BuanoKubiamVej · 03/01/2022 15:24

I started this morning at week 5 because having done it before I felt I didn't need the early weeks. It went OK but I had forgotten how difficult it is to hear the instructor voice over my preferred quite loud rock mustlic. The app settings only let you go +2 in volume compared to the music. When I did the c25k before I gave up on music because I couldn't hear the voice but I really don't want to do that this time. Is the an app that lets you balance the sound streams from other apps better?

Muchmorethan · 03/01/2022 15:45

Hi everyone. I started the C25K in July using the NHS app, Strava and Amazon music.

I have never done exercise before and l have no idea what made me even start.

Week one ...l couldn't even keep going for 60s.... l had to repeat the run 7 times until l did!
