Does anyone fancy a C25K thread, starting on 2nd or 3rd Jan?

I'd love to get back into running now that I've fully recovered from an injury. No one I know wants to do it with me Grin so I think I'll download C25K and start in Jan.

Anyone know which is the best app? Last time I tried, the app kept getting ads on it which wrecked the timings. I want to avoid that if possible.

Any takers?

Well done everyone who has already started week 2. I'm starting tomorrow, pledging to run on Monday, Thursday and Sunday next week.

I completed my week 1 runs but ended up - through a combination of excuses and general life - having a gap of 4 days till this mornings run so I repeated week 1 day 3 - glad I did and ready to start week 2 this week!

PurpleDaisies · 09/01/2022 12:49

I’ve done week five run one. That wasn’t much fun but I was pleased to get to the end of it. Run two tomorrow. My legs hurt today.

HeyJackKerouac · 09/01/2022 13:06

Week 1 done. I've awarded myself a rosette. First week 2 run planned for Tuesday.

Keep up the good work everyone

everyonesmom · 09/01/2022 19:43

Started week 2 today 👍

rubymaster · 10/01/2022 07:16

Week 2 Run 1 done, good luck everyone!

Jfw82 · 10/01/2022 21:39

Week 2 run 1 done this morning with temp at -2! Only time I can do is after nursery/breakfast club drop off and starting work so can't wait for when it is a little less cold and not quite so dark!

Mimosa1 · 10/01/2022 21:58

Starting run 1 week 1 tomorrow - posting here for accountability :) well down to everyone whose stuck with it this week.

heywhatswrongwitu · 11/01/2022 14:12

Week 2 run 1 done! Started slow then got a bit cocky and nearly got a stitch.. it wasn't as bad as I'd feared!

Dinosauraddict · 11/01/2022 14:58

Just found this. I've just done week 2 run 1 Smile

hivemindneeded · 11/01/2022 18:27

Evening all.

I've just finished Wk2 run 1. Was supposed to do it yesterday but had a very frazzled day and felt too worn out. Almost ditched it today as it was raining and dark by the time I was free but did it anyway, just running around the blocks near home and am very glad I did. I can feel my willpower growing!

Does anyone need any motivation to get their next run in?

Well done @hivemindneeded and everyone else!

Just finished my 4th run of week 1, I added 3 extra intervals in and thought I'd try running up a little hill at the very end, was very impressed that I actually got to the top without stopping! It's only a tiny hill but still quite chuffed I managed it.

It's was too icy here to run last week, and I've had a few really busy days with work, and kept planning to run before or after but then ended up pushing it back, need to start 'booking' my runs in at the start of the week I think. Feel much better when I manage to do a run, really clears my head Smile.

Effitall · 11/01/2022 19:14

Was feeling a bit off today but powered through run 2 of week 2, now got the beginnings of a migraine so glad I got it done.

If I can’t get out first thing I struggle with motivation, but when I am done I feel so good that I try and remember that when I’m making excuses not to run!

Keep going everyone, just 2/3 weeks ago it would have seemed hard to imagine I’d be out and able to run 1.30 intervals, we are doing it!

bravermanclan · 11/01/2022 21:56

Could I join please? Just completed w1r1 tonight and actually found it a lot easier than I expected. Excited to go out again tomorrow night. Darkness definitely helps!

Jfw82 · 12/01/2022 08:07

W2R2 done. Feel so energised for the day when I get back (not always so much before I leave!)

PurpleDaisies · 12/01/2022 11:21

W5R2 done here and I loved it. The gorgeous freezing weather helped. Slightly terrified about the next one but will give it a go on Friday.

Of course you can join. All welcome. We're generally on Wk2 but some are on week 5 or more and others are just starting out.

Yes, sorry for being a random week 5er! I did it ages ago and then ran moderately regularly. I had a foot injury and couldn’t run for months. Luckily its better now and I managed to keep a fair bit of fitness by swimming so I decided to start with week 4.

It’s a great programme. I’ve decided when I get to the end I might treat myself to a new bit of running kit.

BedsorestoaSloth · 12/01/2022 13:24

Right, I am a sloth by name and by nature currently. But there is a family holiday planned this year (restrictions permitting) which requires me to be fitter so I'm starting late but grateful to join others!

Just did W1R1 and it wasn't as hideous as I'd feared - helped by glorious sunshine. I'm going to try and do it as my lunchbreak since I'm working at home most days for the foreseeable and I'm hoping it stops me eating crap between my lunch and the kids getting back from school.

And I'm bookmarking this thread!

hivemindneeded · 12/01/2022 15:51

@PurpleDaisies - you're not random. You are our pioneer. Proving it can be done! Grin

Run 2 Week 2 done. It was hard to motivate myself again, I’m a day later than planned for this run but glad I actually got out there and I did enjoy the run. Hopefully it will become a habit and get easier. The accountability of this group has definitely helped!

IDKAYBIF32 · 13/01/2022 16:00

Run 5 of week 1 done. Absolutely was not feeling it at the start and wanted to stop after 2nd run, but made myself finish it and started to enjoy it by run 6. I ran for as long as I could for the last run and managed 2 minutes before I felt like I couldn't go on/breathe Grin.

It's amazing how much of it is psychological, one of my ex boyfriends was very into running, and said that you have to think about why you want to stop: is it legs, lungs or head? Today was definitely a bit of head at the start, and lungs towards the end Grin.

@PurpleDaisies

I can't wait to get to week 5, well done! What are you thinking of treating yourself to?

IDKAYBIF32 · 13/01/2022 16:00

Oh, and has anyone had a gait analysis for some new running shoes? Thinking of treating myself to one after next payday.

Jfw82 · 13/01/2022 19:29

Not officially no but I knew my problem was that I roll out on ankles so when I made it week 4 the last time I went to ASICS outlet store and asked for advice - it def helped me finish it and having restarted 20 months later am loving them still
PurpleDaisies · 13/01/2022 22:08

Thanks @IDKAYBIF32, I’m thinking gloves. My hands keep getting chilly with these freezing mornings although when I finish it might be a fair bit warmer!

I didn’t have formal gait analysis but I had help to choose suitable trainers in a running shop. I was getting hip pain and that stopped almost immediately. When those wore out the staff in an ASICS outlet shop helped me choose a replacement. They’ve been great. I also went rogue and bought myself some Nike trail shoes which felt similar. I love those and I’m already saving for a goretex pair.
