Does anyone fancy a C25K thread, starting on 2nd or 3rd Jan?

I'd love to get back into running now that I've fully recovered from an injury. No one I know wants to do it with me Grin so I think I'll download C25K and start in Jan.

Anyone know which is the best app? Last time I tried, the app kept getting ads on it which wrecked the timings. I want to avoid that if possible.

Any takers?

I’m in. I have got to week 7 once and week 5 a few times. I just need to bloody do it. I’m currently in the longest spell of not running I’ve had for ages, and I’m having a stonking period so might not join you tomorrow but I’ll cheer you on.

I’ve joined a local running group to do a couch to 5k with them, so hopefully this thread and that will be my motivation. I want to run the great south run. I was cold and bored waiting for my mates to do it last year. Running up a few flights of stairs in a surgical mask without dying would also be great.

halfgirlhalfturnip · 01/01/2022 22:51

Can I join please? I am doing the 50 miles for maggies challenge in January and haven't run since doing C25K nearly 3 years ago. Will be counting every step I walk or run though to get it done.

asilikeit · 01/01/2022 22:55

I'm in! I'm planning on starting on Monday! Using the couch to 5k app . In 2019 I managed to get up to 10K in an hour which I never ever imagined being able to do. For me the key was consistency- making sure I was out at least 3 times a week.

heywhatswrongwitu · 01/01/2022 23:01

Me too please. Started on Thursday and couldn't believe how hard I found it! Second run tomorrow morning if the toddler sleeps tonight...

IDKAYBIF32 · 01/01/2022 23:47

I'm in. I'm a repeat C25K drop out, I tend to get to week 4 or 5 and then feel frustrated that I can't do it and give up. This time I'm tempted to just repeat week 3 and 4 for a month or 2 each before attempting the dreaded week 5, though even if I repeat week 1 for the whole year, it'll be something!

Chakraleaf · 02/01/2022 07:29

Yes please. Completed c25k last July and unfortunately not ran since so will need to re do it.

Longsleepneeded · 02/01/2022 07:32

I'm still away with family at the moment, but will start on Thursday when the children to back to school! Good luck to those starting earlier.

Policyschmolicy · 02/01/2022 07:50

Yes - I’m on run 3 hoping to get out today. Need to shift a minimum of 5kg (maybe nearer to 10kg if we are talking pre-children weight). And need to sort out my bum as it has taken on a life of its own.

Policyschmolicy · 02/01/2022 07:51

I’m also a drop out from last year. Got to week 6 and injured myself, so will probably do two rest days between runs

Wrongaddress · 02/01/2022 07:58

Yes I'll join. Never done it before but it's on my to do list this year, will start tomorrow. I am very very unfit though Blush

Twickerhun · 02/01/2022 08:46

I'd like to join. I've also started it a few times and breezed the first week, got over cocky and given up at week 6 or 7.

LaMariposa · 02/01/2022 08:49

I’m doing my first run this morning as soon as DH gets back from the tip.
I’ve added the runs to our shared calendar so they definitely happen - Sunday, Wednesday and Friday here.
Good luck to everyone else starting today, I’ll be back later to update how I got on.

Policyschmolicy · 02/01/2022 09:04

Bit the bullet and got out there, really lovely this morning out in the large local park, a few people to help it feel safe but nice and empty.

I’m very injury prone so I think I’m going to run 2x a week, with a bit of swimming, stationery bike, and strength training in between. I know from last time that a single rest day doesn’t suit my body (hyper mobile, prone to calf and hamstring injury, have a bit of a tight glute/hip already).

But I really enjoyed the running last time and want to succeed at it. Or at least I really enjoyed the headspace and euphoria from 3x sessions/week.

everyonesmom · 02/01/2022 09:11

Just done my first one. Didn't realise how unfit I was but feel a real sense of achievement now.

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 02/01/2022 09:17

Just the thread I need. Done my first one this morning. I’m annoyed with myself as I completed it last June and then stopped running.
Glad I did it again this morning though.
If anyone has any recommendations of upbeat and motivating music that would be great!
Good luck everyone with your runs

Effitall · 02/01/2022 09:27

I’d like to join please.

I did this about 5 years ago and was running a couple of times a week, got injured and gave up.

Sat here in my PJs trying to build up the courage to get changed and get outside to start, feeling a bit (lot) self conscious.

LaMariposa · 02/01/2022 10:54

Completed my run, feel so much better for it. Might try and do the second one Tuesday morning rather than Wednesday, before the back to school madness starts.

Houseofvelour · 02/01/2022 10:56

Can I join? Started C25k in summer but stopped after a couple of runs and want to start again and do the full thing. Currently isolating with covid but can start again next week!

MichaelAndEagle · 02/01/2022 11:02

Hi all - if you're listening to something whilst running does anyone have any reasonably priced headphones they can recommend?
Ta x

Yazoop · 02/01/2022 11:04

The NHS app is fantastic - and no ads!

Effitall · 02/01/2022 11:09

Forced myself out and did the first run! Feel much better now.

I got cheapo wireless ones (with cable between ear pieces) from the phone accessory stand at a drug store. I didn't want in ear ones as I want to hear other people and dogs spproaching the ambient noises. cost a tenner.

I did c25k with my teenagers in the first lockdown. we got a leaflet with instructions from their pe teacher.

I'm still running regularly. it's great for my mental health. and waist.

hivemindneeded · 02/01/2022 12:56

Just did my first run. Grin

NHS App with Denise Lewis speaking. Free to download and no ads as @ClaraTheImpossibleGirl says. Recommended.

Ran into the woods up to a bullrush pond I'd not seen for months, then back again. Felt just about right in terms of how strenuous it was for a beginner. Feeling very chuffed as it is now pouring with rain but when I was out it was all glittery sunshine.

Bit nervous that it will trigger an old injury as I felt a tiny twinge I haven't felt in months but I'll keep an eye on it.

Top tip: wear your sports bra! Grin

I just used the ones that came with my phone. Kept reasonably low so I could hear ambient noises (just as well as I stopped running to walk as a bike was whizzing up behind me, expecting me to keeping running.)
