Does anyone fancy a C25K thread, starting on 2nd or 3rd Jan?

I'd love to get back into running now that I've fully recovered from an injury. No one I know wants to do it with me Grin so I think I'll download C25K and start in Jan.

Anyone know which is the best app? Last time I tried, the app kept getting ads on it which wrecked the timings. I want to avoid that if possible.

Any takers?

Well done @PurpleDaisies! Sounds like hard work but a big achievement.

PurpleDaisies · 22/02/2022 17:55

Thank you @WolfMother326. I was glad of a rest day today. I haven’t decided whether the last official run will be tomorrow or Thursday but for sure it will be on the flat!

Jfw82 · 23/02/2022 13:18

W8R3 done and I know I could have run for 30mins so am ready for week 9!
I'm still slow but had my fastest time for a kilometre for today. It'll be a fair while til I manage 5k in 30 mins (if ever!) but feeling great about trying to do it Grin

heywhatswrongwitu · 25/02/2022 14:19

The progress everyone's making is mega, well done! I think I'm out for the moment.. had a(nother) bad cold and have just had a frozen embryo transfer so I'm going to do walks for the time being.. I may be back in a couple of weeks.

PurpleDaisies · 01/03/2022 09:57

How’s everyone getting on? I finished a couple of days ago and have been out for one post programme 5km run without the podcast. It was weird but I think I liked it. It was nice not to have Denise talking over Danny Howard’s dance party (!) but I did miss the encouragement along the way. I’m not sure what I’ll do next but a couple of weeks of consolidation seems to be what’s recommended so that’s the plan for now.

Jfw82 · 01/03/2022 11:56

Well done @PurpleDaisies I actually graduated this morning with a run in the rain!

I'm actually planning to do another 3 of this weeks run with Sanjeev still to consolidate - then I'm thinking of using the week 9 podcast again but seeing if I can run 35 so to the end of the cool down and then do a 5 min walk after that... after that I might look at some other apps but for now this seems easiest :)

That’s fantastic @Jfw82. Congratulations! I hope you celebrated a massive achievement. Sounds like you’ve got a sensible plan-I’m a bit unsure on what exactly to do next but I need to get to 10km by june. I’ve just counted and that’s closer than I thought!

BedsorestoaSloth · 02/03/2022 09:58

Well done @Jfw82 and @PurpleDaisies - I'm still looking forward to joining you.

I've just finished Week 7 and found the third run of the week much tougher than the previous two for some reason. Big thank you to whoever passed on the advice about thinking head, lungs, legs - it was the only thing that kept me going when I realised my legs felt really heavy but I was actually ok otherwise. Eventually got a bit easier in the last 5 mins and I was really pleased not to have given up and walked as I was so tempted to do. 28 mins here I come Shock

PurpleDaisies · 02/03/2022 14:51

Thank you @BedsorestoaSloth. I love your username. Good luck for week 8. 6 runs and you’re done!

I’ve been out for a run this morning (consolidation 2) and although I covered the distance, it wasn’t much fun. Felt like a toxic 20 today and I was absolutely counting down to being finished. Most times I’ve enjoyed it but the weather was grim and I was tired. My legs are a bit stiff so it’s going to be a bit of gentle yoga later. Rest day tomorrow. Depending on how things feel, I might choose a flat run for Friday.

BedsorestoaSloth · 07/03/2022 10:29

Do most people end up covering 5k with the 30 mins? I've done 2 x 28 min runs now and I'm doing about 4.2k so I think 30 will make for about 4.5. I didn't set out on this to be a parkrun whizz but does that mean I am pretty slow and ought to be trying to go a bit faster to really say I've reached my goal? Sarah Millican keeps telling me it's not about speed but about distance, but they are sort of related given there's a time schedule!

Jfw82 · 07/03/2022 16:51

I only get my 5k if I include my warm up abs warm down - I'm slow but having now repeated my week 9 runs another 2 times I can see a sight improvement. I don't think I'll ever manage 5k in 30 mins but aim to slowly up my time running to get there quicker than I do just now!

I read that the vast majority don’t-something like 90% of the people who finish don’t cover 5km in 30 minutes at the end. The programme really should be couch to 30minutes since it’s really not about speed!
BedsorestoaSloth · 08/03/2022 11:27

Thanks, that's encouraging.

Like you @Jfw82 I'd have to include the warm up/warm down but since it's not part of the 30 mins that feels a cheat! I shall keep plodding along and politely declining suggestions from others that we run together!

PurpleDaisies · 08/03/2022 14:57

I’ve been for a run today. The weather was glorious this morning. I’m now starting the long climb towards 10km and today’s run was a short one at 2.5km. I decided to try going faster and it caught me out how much further it was than I’d imagined so I was seriously puffing at the end. Lots of fun though.

How is everyone getting on?

BedsorestoaSloth · 18/03/2022 14:44

Just came back to post this!

Thanks so much for your encouragement, wouldn't have banked on getting this far. Now I have to figure out how to motivate myself to maintain it!

Jfw82 · 20/03/2022 06:25

@BedsorestoaSloth congratulations! I'm a few weeks in and still running 2-3 times a week, now managing to run for 40mins! (So finally actually ran a full 5k)

BedsorestoaSloth · 20/03/2022 21:58

40 minutes @Jfw82...now that's a target to aim for! I think I might just get round 5k in that.

Do you feel any different in a week when you manage 2 rather than 3 runs? That feels instinctively more manageable to drag myself out for. Although sunny days also make it easier.

Jfw82 · 21/03/2022 11:50

@BedsorestoaSloth I feel like I'm being lazy if I just do two Grinbut particularly as I'm still upping the time some days my legs feel like 1 days rest is not enough and nice not to feel I 'have' to do 3. I went up to 35 mins at first (so ran until Sanjeev told me I'd finished my walk at the end) then after 2 weeks doing that went to 40 mins last week. I think am planning to keep to running until I know I've run 5k and hopefully see my time come down/pace go up before I push further - am enjoying it more than I thought that's for sure!!

PurpleDaisies · 22/03/2022 11:57

I’ve missed a few posts sorry!

Congratulations @BedsorestoaSloth, completing c25k is a fantastic achievement. Well done you! And massive congrats to you @Jfw82 for covering the 5k distance. Another big milestone.

I finished about a month ago and have been out about two or three times a week. I think the extra rest days do me good. It’s been odd not using the podcast and I think I miss some of the encouraging comments along the way. The freedom is nice though! I’m on the slow march to 10km. I’m up to 7km now. I’m finding adding distance much easier now than through the c25k programme.

Jfw82 · 22/03/2022 13:46

Well done @PurpleDaisies sounds like you're doing great!

PurpleDaisies · 22/03/2022 15:30

Thank you @Jfw82. I found it weird adjusting to life post podcast and there have been a few not so enjoyable runs. Overall I definitely feel like I’m making progress now. It’s definitely much easier going further than 5k than getting there in the first place!

Winterjoy · 28/03/2022 09:08

I've just started the programme (on week 3) and wonder if anyone has advice. Last week I found that the longer runs were OK up until the last 10-15 seconds which I could barely make it through (started feeling nauseous etc). Would it be best to repeat the week to address this before moving on? I expect it not to be completely comfortable as the aim is to build fitness, but not sure if I'm setting myself up to fail by moving on to longer runs while still struggling so much with 3 minutes?

Sorry if this has been answered already, I haven't been able to rtft.

Jfw82 · 28/03/2022 18:50

@Winterjoy if it's just last 10-15 seconds but you are still completing the time yet stepping up if you can't do it then repeat previous week but you might surprise yourself !

Jfw82 · 28/03/2022 18:52

Then try stepping up is what I was trying to write ! If not repeat until you're more confident but def always felt personally i couldn't do it until I tried then managed it!
