Some fantastic runs from people this week, I find this thread so motivating!

My usual 3.5 miles this morning, but a nice pace, and grateful for still being able to clock up shorter runs. Gorgeous sunshin here, too, after yesterday's grey and cold snap.

A jognchat in the sunshine this morning

10k walk-running for me this morning. It snowed 😱 But when it wasn’t doing that the sun was out and in sheltered patches it was quite warm. Flipping cold wind though.

The Grumbly Foot is a bit vexed as I had to sprint after DS on his bike again yesterday - really flat out sprint as he was miles ahead and there was a car coming! But it didn’t raise too many objections today.

Chatty run in the sun. But the wind was cold.
Hope the foot settles soon spudlet

Running plans got a bit derailed when I went down with a cold towards the end of the week, but I managed a good club run on Tuesday before I was sick. Today I managed a lovely 10 mile run up a local hill, and then up and down various trails to get 380m elevation for my club strava challenge, with the added bonus of some gorgeous views out to sea. I'm just about hanging on in the top 10 of the challenge, though the competition is tough so I'm trying to sneak in a few extra hill repeats whenever I can.

I am sure all this uphill work is going to be very good for me but my glutes and quads are complaining right now! Which is interesting as they are muscles I don't normally feel post run, which suggests they're not normally contributing as much as they should. Hopefully this month will persuade them to be a bit more active! My niggly knees and hamstrings seem much happier - I read that running up hills is good for hamstrings, and regular post-run icing seems to help the knees.

@UnaOfStormhold - I always find my glutes are tired from the ups and my quads get trashed on the downs. Sounds like you had a tough run today - well done.

7miles at jog pace today. I felt achy and tired. Started off windy, then sun came out and it was warm, then started snowing as I got home. What is going on? Confused

I'm sure we all stretch after running but sometimes mine can be a bit half hearted if I'm not careful so I do this 10 minute cool down with Sarah Beth yoga, I really like all her videos, no messing, just gets on with it.

Amaura · 12/04/2021 08:13

If you have jumped up the elevation, it’s definitely worth chucking in a session of conditioning a week plus lots of 10 mins stretching or running yoga. Especially if you are doing a month of it

50FootWave · 12/04/2021 09:24

Thanks, @lamblossom - I need more of this with my knee!

UnaOfStormhold · 12/04/2021 10:59

I do lots of stretching and yoga so that is covered. I think the uphill running itself is giving me a pretty good workout of the muscles I most need to develop so I think adding strength work would be too much for them just now!

Iamblossom · 12/04/2021 18:04

Now that gyms are back open what are your views on treadmill running? I prefer running outside but good to have the option when weather bad.

emummy · 12/04/2021 20:28

It’s definitely a good option to have, and I know some people like them for doing intervals on because you can control the pace. I haven’t run on a treadmill for about 20 years! I just run outside, no matter the weather, I do find exercising indoors quite uncomfortable. Saying that, I am planning to join my local council gym when it reopens at the end of the month, but that’s for weights rather than the treadmill.

Frosty here too this am. Saw the local deer herd so that was impressive

Top work on the pb @Amaura

Gratz on the PB, @Amaura!

3 miles of walk / run intervals in the sunshine for me this morning. Grumbly Foot complained a little at the start but then shut up and got on with it. It’s a difficult area to warm up tbh, going to ask the physio about to tomorrow. Also went far too fast on the running intervals and left myself puffing and blowing a bit!

Well done on your PB Amaura

Frosty run this morning through the woods. Wild garlic smelling lovely and the wood peckers pecking loudly.

Iamblossom · 13/04/2021 13:44

4 miles. Tough going. No way I was looking up and smelling flowers or hearing birds, head down all the way grinding it out.

I feel shattered and keep sneezing and am snotty. Sigh.

Had a much needed lunchtime run to deal with some work stresses, amazing how it clears the mind and makes things seem manageable again. Picked a bit of wild garlic on the way through the woods near home - made a very tasty post run omelette!

10k today. Also have a permit for the trail race we want to put on in July. Should be able to open up entries soon (very exciting)

Great news @Amaura! Hope it all goes well.
Foraging on the tun @UnaOfStormhold, very impressive!
I seem to have caught your grumbly foot @Spudlet, need to give the physio a call I think

Ok today's run was just lush.. Beautiful cold but sunny morning, running through the woods with my friend and our 3 dogs. It was slower, and a bit stop start (as anyone who runs with dogs will know it can be sometimes) but just lovely, and good for my soul.

Sorry that should be 503.6
