Ran my first half marathon yesterday morning, so feeling very empowered.
Did a gentle week 3 run 1 C25K with dd today.

Yes done @xsquared

18 miles today and a club fartlek session on Thursday. Annoyingly my recovery week got out of sequence but I don’t want a three week taper so going for two 60% weeks

Brilliant @xsquared, well done!
Done my half, not fast but very scenic -and bloody hilly! It had more elevation than my 50k will have so good training. Feet up now.

Thank you @emummy and @Amaura. Well done to you both on yours today.

emummy · 05/09/2021 09:12

Nice easy run around town, avoiding most of the hills! Legs achy so cut it short. Beautiful day here, now off to spend it shopping with Dd1 who is heading off to uni this week.

May I just jump on this thread to ask advice of some fellow runners?
I need new trainers and the issue I have is that my big toes seem to naturally poke upwards so I wear through the mesh on most trainers within a couple of months.
Can anyone recommend and more robust trainers where yet top is not mesh? Or how I can train my toes not to poke through my shoes 😁
Thank you!

Doublethecuddles · 06/09/2021 16:27

Well done emummy and xsquared

AgnesWaterhouse1566 sorry I can’t help on the trainer front.

PB at Park Run on Saturday which wasn’t expected as I struggled to breathe and walked a short way. Aiming for below 25 minutes by the end of the year.
Lovely woodland run this morning saw heron and deer. It is definitely becoming more autumnal.

@AgnesWaterhouse1566 I’m not sure; do you have wide feet? I have seen people complain about a similar thing find that getting a size up or shoes that are better for wider feet say that helped. It’s not a problem I’ve had so not sure. You could try asking in a running shop for advice if there is one near you? Or email them

Popping back in after a few less motivated weeks with the joys of back to school bugs triggering PCRs (on the day of my first race that has happened since the pandemic (not my first entered)) and major DOMS from walking down a stupidly steep hill. Also finally made it back to fencing so a little less time to run. Managed to flip from Garmin telling me I'm "detraining" to "overreaching" in the course of 2 weeks - and the final straw was accompanying my 6 year old at junior parkrun yesterday - she's now doing just over 6min / km so it isn't an easy recovery run!

Also did parkrun on Saturday with a friend and predictably pushed the pace a little which together with a sneaky pre work 5k on Thursday (including some fast 400 intervals) and a fencing lesson involving many many lunges on Friday means it probably has a point.

Struggling to slot together a schedule that takes into account life, all the priority stuff and getting out for social runs when I need the space. Will work it out eventually...

Beautiful morning for a run along the river & past the castle. Ankles still a bit stiff from the trails at the weekend but much better.

A mixed terrain run today , road up a very steep hill, farmland along the edge of a field eating brambles as I went and finished up running through a wood. It was a slow pace but very enjoyable.
emummy your run looks lovely.

Great running all, sounds like some real progress being made and good luck @KitchenFishCurry for your weekend of halves! Is there anyone who can be alongside the course to hand you bottles/snacks? I think with 2 races you'll need to be extra careful about hydration and fuel not to use up your reserves. I use a decathlon hydration pack which is very comfy - I find a waist belt makes my stomach very unhappy!

I've realised it's 11 weeks to go before my half race (and 6 before my 10 miler) so have paused the MAHR base building for now to focus on build up. I didn't really do MAHR long enough to see a dramatic difference but I did a fastish club run on Tuesday and felt pretty comfortable, so I think even just a few weeks has helped my aerobic fitness. I plan to give it another try after the races. For the next 11 weeks I am going to use the Nike Run Club training plan which seems nice and flexible and I like the audio guidance. I've also started adding in some Nike Training club strength workouts - I want to see if I can build up my leg strength and stride length to go faster, as my cadence is already high.

Lovely pictures - here's a sunset from Tuesday's run.

8.5 mile trail run on Tuesday nice and early before it got too hot and 6.5mile club run last night one loop of Sunday's half. I wish the weather would cool down I never thought I would say that, in the winter I usually have so many layers I can hardly move.

A couple of runs this week. Was too hot for me Tuesday to handle running and climbing, so I missed that day, but I’m in taper for next weekend now anyway

Love a new route @xsquared!
Change of scene for me too; down in Glasgow taking DD1 to start uni so got a great run along the river through the city today. Really enjoyed it.

Started a new Garmin plan for a 10k in January because I need boxes to tick. 0.9 miles for benchmark and then 3.1 easy today with a friend.

10km hill reps on trail, parkrun this morning (annoyingly the course is long and there was 30 secs between my recorded 5km time on my watch and my finish time). Still got a solid sub 22 though so happy with that. Plus another 5km as recovery

First half of the weekend completed. My friend I was running with fell at 5.5 miles and hurt her knee but insisted on carrying on, despite this we were still faster than I had anticipated she is a very determined lady. 13.58 miles and 2793 ft elevation , lots and lots of steps on the coastal path .I think you call it undulating!
