IRun4Me always good to have a change of scenery, hope you had a good holiday.

I have managed 3 runs this week. One solo and 2 runs with different friends and it was lovely to catch up with them. Hoping to do Parkrun on Saturday

Enjoy those holiday runs @IRun4Me! Can’t beat a good hill.
Steady run in town this morning, then first appointment cancelled - I could have had a lie in, not impressed!

Had a sunny Cornish week away got in a couple of trail walk/runs. Longest was 11m of coastal path with lots of up/downs but was limping the last 2m as calf/knee locked up in pain on the downhills. However with in 2days it released with sea swims & yoga, so I did a 5miler as well Smile the other direction on the coastal path. Stunning scenery but hot by 11am.

Work has been very busy so haven't had as much time as I'd hoped for running - but I did manage to fit in some much needed runs which were good for body and mind. I'm experimenting with max aerobic heart rate running , will be interested to see if it makes a difference to my fitness levels

I managed my first ever parkrun (and first organised running event) today - felt very strange to be setting off in a big group but it was a lovely social event both running and having tea afterwards, and I was quite chuffed to be 3rd female overall.

Cornish week sounds lovely @Biking0077.
Brilliant result at parkrun @UnaOfStormhold! Congratulations!
Steady run for me this morning, then off to parkrun to do timekeeping - the scariest of all the volunteer roles! Thankfully all went well, and a lovely sunny day too.

Two more hilly runs to add. Did lots of walking aswell. Not sure if I’m looking forward to running back on the flat or not.

Sorry fell off as life was busy for a few weeks, then holidays etc.

Been enjoying backing off the miles though as have had a few tweaks here and there. Decided to concentrate on just one event rather than two. Will drop miles again after that and work out how to fit in running with the children’s activities in term time (and what amount is easy to squeeze in)

161 miles for the month, got a 10km today and then hit recovery week

emummy · 29/08/2021 09:48

It’s not easy fitting it all in @Amaura that’s for sure! When is your event?
Shorter run today as half is next weekend, nice temp and persistent light drizzle all the way, very refreshing!

I ended up leading a session so I covered when and how to walk a hill and took them up the almost the steepest longest one around (while feeling a fraud as I’m all self taught from YouTube 😂).

Event is 18th Sept, trying to decide whether to attempt a half day afterwards before driving back down to England. Will just play it by ear I imagine.

Amaura · 29/08/2021 20:20

Oh mileage

Snuck in parkrun Saturday as well but leg got niggly again at 2.5m mark so lost pace but was pleased I dragged my butt out of bed.
Well done timekeeping @emummy.

Nice brisk run fuelled by birthday cake - youngest child has turned 13 today. Reducing the mileage ahead of Saturday’s half. It’s going to be 17 degrees and there will be no water stations apparently.

Sugar fuelled runs are always good emummy. Good luck with your half marathon
Park run on Saturday and slightly disappointed with my time as I thought I ran well. I started too far back which is where I lost time. Was planning to run on Sunday but woke up feeling exhausted so listened to my body and went for a short cycle instead. Good 7 miles this morning and I am enjoying the slightly cooler weather.

What’s parkrun if you don’t spend it tired, hungover and disappointed with your time 😂

Gentle 5km. It’s recovery week, so pleased to have done a workout and cycling over running.

Hi can I join in? Club trail run last night 7 miles should have been 6 but we got a bit lost in the woods when it got dark. It was lovely though.

Can I ask a question about water when running. I have a half next weekend (actually I'm doing two) . There are going to be water stations but they are trying to reduce plastic so they have suggested a running bottle belt. I don't usually take water with me will a belt be uncomfortable? I have a backpack with a water bladder(is that the right word) but i think that is overkill, if I have a bag I will fill it with junk.

Welcome @KitchenFishCurry! Good luck with your races.
There are a lot of different belts you can use, some are more comfortable than others. Is there any way you can go in a shop and have a look at them? I have a Karrimor one from sports direct that is quite comfy and another one from Inov-8 which I use more. If you don't drink a lot of water during a half you don't need to be able to carry a lot, unless it's going to be really hot. Or you can get those handheld bottles - I don't use them because I hate carrying stuff in my hands when I'm running, but I know a lot of people like them.
It's a shame they didn't let you know this a bit further in advance! My race on Saturday isn't having any water stations so I will be taking my hydration vest as it's going to be warm - well, by Aberdeenshire standards!

Hi @KitchenFishCurry it’s too close to the race to be experimenting with belts/vests now I think. They all have their quirks and take a few runs to get used to. If you think you could tolerate holding a bottle for a half, that probably wouldn’t be too bad.

With vest/bag you can be strict, given it’s a race it will be mentally easier to not load it up.

7 trail miles this morning. Treated myself to a pint last night having finally talked through the race report with the club committee (they don’t meet in August).

In case I forgot @emummy, all the best of luck at the weekend. You too kitchenfishcurry

I'm going to wear my back pack on the Saturday it's a half along the coastal path a little bit of road then trail and lots of steps. It was never going to be a fast run but due to rescheduling we are planning to take it slow so my legs will still work the next day. The race on the Sunday is a flattish road race, I wish they were the other way round. I might stick a small empty bottle in my waist belt that i can fill if necessary. Normally I wouldn't worry about water but I'm going to be running for longer due to the previous day( and I can't just pop into the Co-op).

I'm probably mad a 49 year old women doing two races in two days but I've had breast cancer this year and I want to stick two fingers up at it. Also as I'm not worried about my time it will be easier to get a PB next year

emummy · 02/09/2021 09:28

I think that brilliant not mad! Very best of luck!

If it’s not a Pb chase then agree do what ever you like. It’s just a great day out! Calories burned and bling gained is all the same.

You’re sure you can’t sneak into a coop or Greggs 😉

Hope it’s fun for you

Doublethecuddles · 02/09/2021 13:15

2 beach runs this week and a catch up with friends. Did a yoga class and I’m sure a 10 mile run would be easier! Standing on 1 leg with eyes shut and wobbling like a jelly fish. I am going to carry on with it and hopefully it I’ll help with flexibility which I have none of.

kitchenFishCurry best of luck and enjoy your races. Could you try drinking a lot of water or tea on Friday to ensure that you are fully hydrated before you start?
emummy good luck with your race. I am a bit further down the coast and find running in anything above 15C too warm!

9 miles this morning a bit of the coastal path mostly road. It was a bit blowy to start with but I got home before it got really hot.

Parkrun tomorrow my daughter wants to start working towards a PB so we are going to have a go and see where she is. It was my 50th Parkrun last week and I got the PB I’ve been close to for a few weeks so I’m going to take it easy.

That looks lovely @KitchenFishCurry. Good luck to your daughter at parkrun tomorrow. I am preparing for my half by eating Haagen Das ice cream, I think that’s what the elites do.
