Last thread is nearly full so here is a new one.
All runners are welcome, regardless of age, experience, speed, distance etc. Just join in and chat about all things running.
The numbers in bold at the bottom of posts are the total we have run together that month, so just add your numbers as you go.

Intervals this morning, didn’t hear the watch beep so accidentally ran twice as long as I was supposed to!

@IRun4Me Spuddog used to trip me up all the time too, or get in front of me then slow down until I was just about hopping on the spot Grin

@emummy hate it when I miss an interval alert, it gets me all discombobulated!

I was feeling a bit under the weather yesterday so skipped my cross training session and had a rest day (boring). Felt better today so did a slow 5k trundle around the trails - training plan wanted 5 miles but I decided to err on the side of caution as I still feel a little washed out.

Ok if I check in? New to this thread. Training for a half in September, need a bit more motivation as still spending much more time thinking about running than actually running.

emummy · 09/07/2021 12:10

Welcome @spinachandchickpea! Motivation can be tricky. I think I mostly rely on running being a habit now, with occasional bursts of inspiration!

Thanks very much @emummy. Actually joining this thread has worked well already with motivation - went out for a 5.9 mile run this morning. Feel loads better for it. Just great to get away from screens. Thanks for the welcome.

Dunno how to make this bold: Confused

Brilliant, well done! To make the number bold you need an * on either side of it, no spaces.
Long run slog for me this morning, legs feeling heavy, don’t know why. But powered on through, tested out the drinks bladder for my hydration vest & it worked well. Beautiful run, but quite glad it’s done. Now I need my legs to recover ahead of a 3 hour drive to the holiday cottage..

10 miles done today! After last week I was a bit nervous but it was really good - helped by my BiL plotting me a route which was downhill all the way Grin I tried some gels for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by how much they helped. If I hadn’t hit an overgrown bit I think I’d have got a pb as I was only 2 minutes shy of my current record.

I’ve been lurking for abit after contributing a fair bit last year my running dropped off again with injuries then I focused on cycling, but now I’ve got a trail 14m event in mid-sept I’m on a 10wk countdown. Having hardly done any running last two months was super pleased to get a slow 8.7m done this morning with half on trail. The cycling had definitely kept my fitness up and running slowly listening to a good podcast kept me motivated despite the horrible rising humidity that was building. I’m really not a warm runner much prefer the winter but the event was something Ive wanted to do for a while so now I’ve got to keep running through August eek. I’m hoping to intersperse with cycling to reduce the hip/joint niggles that keep flaring up, and I need to try hard to do the strength training but hate doing it.
Anyone got recommendations for strength training vids not Joe Wickes? I guess I’ll just have to suck up the squats/planks and lunges 😩to keep injury free again.

Just a couple of short but lovely runs this weekend. Hoping I can up my distance over the summer holidays when I have more time. One week to go.

First holiday run round country roads this morning, some hills but not too nasty. Cloudy and humid, really nice scenery to enjoy.
@Biking0077 the only videos I have used are from Another Mother Runner, they have some 15-20 minute videos. Otherwise I just do a series of exercises I've put together myself, picked from different books/classes etc. Most recent addition is some hamstring exercises after an assessment showed they were weak. Good luck with your training.

Did 6 miles with the running club on Thursday. Hotter and sweatier than it looked. DH is now on call for the next 2 weeks so I'm limited to short local stuff which is boring. Managed to drag myself out for 1.5 miles after dinner before the football after delaying because I'm very bored of steady laps around the block!

Thanks @emummy I’ll check out Another Mother Runner.
Lovely photos @Doublethecuddles

Flipping heck woken up nursing sore right knee this time 🙄I think it’s my way of my body telling me to stick to cycling and swimming but I do love the freedom of trail running. So I need to crack on with the strength stuff. I enjoyed listening to Karen Weir on the RunPod cast talking a lot of sense about women over 40s running. Worth a listen if you like podcasts.

emummy · 13/07/2021 08:47

Looks gorgeous @Doublethecuddles!
Nice steady run this m, bit warmer today.

@IRun4Me I now have a vision of you occasionally leaping up to see where you are, ears flapping in the breeze Grin

@Iamblossom Poor Lab! Hope he/she is feeling better soon.

@Doublethecuddles What lovely pictures, gorgeous place for a run.

@Biking0077 I listened to her too - I’ve definitely been trying to fit more strength stuff in since.

I have a new running buddy coming to join me soon… he’s going to have to do some growing first though. But I’ve high hopes for him in a couple of years time or so. 😊Ask

@spudlet so cuuuute! Running is never dull when you run with dogs.

Black lab has elbow dysplasia which has flared up after not being a problem for a long time. He's only 3. It's horrible seeing him hobble, especially as all he wants to do is run like a greyhound. Very difficult trying to stop him chasing after our other dog, run to fetch his favourite toy to greet us, jump on and off the sofa. Have to put him on the lead to take him outside the the loo. Nightmare. 😢

Spudlet · 13/07/2021 11:30

Oh bless him! Poor lad. Spuddog suffered with intermittently his hips when he got a bit older and it was so hard to see him in pain. Hope your lad feels better soon 🤞

Doublethecuddles · 13/07/2021 12:42

spudlet he is gorgeous!

8 mile run this morning while DC slept.

I will listen to that podcastBiking0077 as I really should try and strengthen my upper body.

A very hot and sweaty 8.2 mile run today.

@Spudlet he’s lovely we’ve got a 14mth old LabX who has come a couple of times on a walk/run trail route with me. We have to be careful though as DH over walked her at 9mths resulted in 2wks rest and vet bill for muscle strained shoulder. Must be nightmare @lamb I hope it settles down soon as our pup likes to hurtle like a greyhound too it’s flipping hard if you have to restrict their exercise.

I have spent last two nights whilst putting my youngest DD to bed doing squarts & press ups on the wardrobe Grin she has a 6min mindfulness app to help her sleep so whilst I wait to retrieve my phone from her bedroom I was making myself do strength training. I watched the Another Mother Runner on you tube @emummy and picked up two extra exercises to try the pigeon raises and hip openers so I’ve added those to my repertoire thanks.

I had hoped to do my usual 3-5m trail run tonight around my child club taxi duties but my knee muscle spasm thing hasn’t settled yet so I’m going to wait until Friday I think. Frustrating though as my new trail pack arrived today & I wanted to try it out.

randomsabreuse · 14/07/2021 14:46

I've still not tried my new trail shoes and could only grab 20 minutes for a run yesterday morning for a better than nothing 1.75 miles. Humid as anything & I was proper dripping. Tonight is my last proper opportunity until Monday but I've just had my 2nd Covid jab this afternoon so will be going easy/not at all for a day or 2 at least as I was tired after my first and I have to save energy for child wrangling...!
