Hi all!
Sorry to hear your news @Spudlet
Did some easy miles this week but still hip pain. Saw physio today who was very comforting and said she could sort me out before my race next weekend. Phew. Apparently it is back stiffness caused by sitting and home working. She was very practical - mostly physios seem to moan about how bad running is which gets on my nerves.
Am going to do a little tester easy run tomorrow. Cancelled intervals this week as didn’t think that was wise.

I’ve reset our mileage as it is a new month!

spudlet He’s gorgeous. I have a spaniel. They are naughty aren’t they but in a funny way. It must be so hard but so many happy memories.
The weather here is a bit all over the place. Has warmed up again but we are forecast thunderstorms at the weekend.
Short run whilst DS at an activity.

Took my new trail shoes out for a spin tonight, really happy with them. I won’t wear them too much as I want to use them for the ultra in November. Lovely warm summer evening.
Glad you got a good physio @Purpleraindeer

Having had 2 days off I went out today and felt great. Was lovely to be back and physio has made a bit of a difference which is great Smile

Wise re the trail shoes @emummy. Mine are now ripping in the uppers but i only have a week until my race so I don’t want to get a new pair. Rubbish timing. I’m a bit disappointed re the quality. I think I only got them in Feb.

Lovely run with the dog (I definitely appreciated him that bit more today spudlet and did think of you Flowers)

The first run recently where I wasn’t time pressured and trying to fit it in around everything else. So didn’t worry about pace or distance and just went with the flow. Ended up doing over 8 miles which is the longest in ages and the pace was good even though I didn’t push it at all. Definitely one of those runs that is just perfect.

@IRun4Me Ah, I’m glad you enjoyed your run. Cherish your buddy while he’s there, it goes by in a flash! Smile

@emummy I have also been breaking in trail shoes! Took mine for a little jaunt round the ‘block’ last night - a nice little 2 and a bit mile loop around the fields behind the house. Very different to my old ones, so I think I’m going to have to take my time over swapping into them full time. So bouncy and forgiving compared to my old ones though.

Got out for a 3 mile run today dodging the showers. I'm getting close to needing new road shoes to go with my new trails. But I've managed to reduce their weekly mileage by digging out my Saucony Kinvaras to use for track sessions after remembering that the main reason I replaced them was because the treads were exactly the wrong size for the grit/gravel on the local road. They were fine on well maintained tarmac but most roads and paths around me are anything but - kept having to stop to extract which drove me nuts.

I love my trails, Saucony. Very comfortable

emummy · 04/07/2021 11:32

Steady long run in the drizzle. Had planned to go up a hill but it was too misty. Nice and mild though and managed a sprint finish when the heavens opened!

Muddy 5km in the pouring rain, loved it.

First ever half marathon done today. Started really well with some light drizzle, but by the end the sun was back out and with it the humidity levels shot up! So I struggled a lot from about 9.5 miles on, even had to have a sit down on a log in the shade at one point Blush Don’t ask me how quickly I did it, but I’m glad I managed to shuffle round.

Amazing Spudlet, congratulations 👏👏👏

Yes when the rain stops it suddenly becomes really warm doesn't it? Summer sitting firmly behind the rain clouds...

emummy · 04/07/2021 18:22

Well done @Spudlet!

Woo hoo - well done @Spudlet!

I managed to avoid the rain today and had some sun. Was muddy again and super humid. DH not so lucky and got absolutely drenched in the last 5mins of his run

Nice to have a chatty run @lamblossom. My running buddy is away so I missed the chat!

Congratulations on your half @spudlet and so sorry to hear about your dog.

I had a bit of an epic today - I was a long way from home having finally found a strava segment for my challenge, and it was so wet my phone died. Which was a problem as the phone was my sole source of navigation on an unfamiliar trail in a wood - I knew roughly where I was but none of the trails or roads I found seemed to lead in the direction I needed to go in. I found some friendly women who gave me directions and let me borrow their phone so that I could call my husband in case he was worried that I was late (due to overgrown trails and getting lost), had suddenly stopped Livetrack and wasn't replying when called.

I made my way back home in the end (best cheese toasties and hot ribena ever!) but ended up doing a 10 miler rather than the 11-12k I'd planned. Pretty shattered now; it's been a fairly intense week in the 5k training plan capped off by today's run which was not only long for me but on tough terrain (alternating muddy, overgrown trails or running along roads and leaping onto the uneven verge when a car came by). But I managed to complete my strava segment so at least I don't have to do it all again!

Iamblossom · 04/07/2021 21:26

Argh what a nightmare Una! But well done! Now have a hankering for hot ribena...

Spudlet · 04/07/2021 21:33

Oh no @UnaOfStormhold, that does not sound fun! But the hot Ribena does. I had a can of Pepsi from the cafe when I got back to the car - I had 1% left of my phone battery to pay and no other means of getting it. I think of my phone had died I would have cried Blush

UnaOfStormhold · 05/07/2021 12:05

Yes, I went past one of those roadside vans shortly after getting to the top of a long hill, and the smell of bacon was mouthwatering - I think if I'd had means to pay I would definitely have yielded to temptation at that point despite being mostly vegetarian at my son's request! Hot ribena is pefect after a long run.

emummy · 06/07/2021 08:33

Oh @UnaOfStormhold that sounds like quite an ordeal! Hope you are recovered now.
Steady run this morning, quite humid & sticky. Counting down the days till holiday next week when I can run some different routes!

I'm recovered now (bar slightly scratched legs) but my phone is unfortunately still drying out :(

Spudlet · 06/07/2021 12:09

4 miles through the very soggy woods today - a much nicer temperature, although my shorts were soaked right through in minutes as some of the grass was very long. I wish it had been a bit more like this on Sunday! Wore my new shoes and took them through some muddy puddles, so they’re properly christened now. They were really comfy, my dodgy foot started to pull slightly at one point and I just though, here we go, but then it settled without me doing anything different and was fine. And the grip was good enough for me to do some short fast intervals and feel confident that I wasn’t about to go arse over apex. So feeling pleased, and tempted to just keep wearing them…. Not sure if I might use them for my other short runs this week then go back to the old ones for my long run at the weekend?

randomsabreuse · 06/07/2021 21:24

4.5 miles yesterday with a friend. Last minute decision to get out as we were both (independently) struggling with motivation and had a nice, if wet steady run.

4.5 miles today at my club track session which I totally wasn't in the mood for but really enjoyed once I got going.

Well done spudlet
Oh no UnaOfStormhold glad you got back ok.
Very muggy run today but it was nice. The paths are definitely so much quieter than last year and a bit overgrown in places. The narrow overgrown bits are where the dog decides to remember all his training and run right next to me. I can’t tell him off as he’s just doing what the rest of the time I’m nagging him to do, even though he’s nearly tripping me up!!
