Hope you managed out and had a lovely run Schooldilemma2021

Happy Birthday emummy hope you had a lovely walk.

Has a sociable 5 miles with a friend on Wednesday and really chuffed I did 11 miles today at a respectable pace. Have a whopping blood blister on my toe. I bought new trainers about 2 months ago which are fine on short runs but have caused problems on longer runs. Am going to try different socks.

Happy birthday @emummy!

Well done @Doublethecuddles - that’s some good mileage.

Long run on sat and shorter one today. Hip still sore. Running friend diagnosed itb issue which sounds right so I’ve been torturing myself with foam roller and itb massage. Feels like it’s easing, although that might be psychological as I want to feel as if all the pain I’ve caused myself has benefited!

Rest day tomorrow which will be good too.

Well, it's been a busy week, managed to fit in 4 runs including a speed intervals run, a tempo session and 2 easy runs. I'm enjoying the variety of doing a speed focussed training plan rather than building up the distance as I had been previously. Difficult to know if I'm actually getting faster as it varies so much day to day but I think I must be. I picked up 800m/half mile PBs at the speed session on Tuesday. Still a bit daunted by my goal but it's fun to have something to aim for. I was lucky with the weather today, managed to get out for my long run while the weather was still sunny (if very humid), and before the heavy rain set in.

And tomorrow is my first year runniversary!

Hi everyone. Decided to join as I'm finally sticking with running consistently.

Yesterday it was a bit cooler so I did a 10k time trial and finally got under the hour. Went off too hard and the first 5k was 12 seconds under my 5k pb. Managed to cling on for just under 58 minutes. Amazingly wasn't too sore today and went out for a steady 10k with a friend on a less flat route.

Rest day tomorrow so I will go for a bike ride.

Have I got this right?

Looks right to me, welcome! Well done on your speedy 10k, not easy in the warm weather.

Feel very back to square one hearing all about those long runs, a month off seems a long time in running terms.

Managed a stop start 5km today, really enjoyed although still very wheezy, stopped up a hill, and also for a quick inhaler break on a bench half way round. Am grateful just to be back doing it to be honest. Have a new inhaler, which is a combo steroid albuterol one so fingers crossed things improve.

What was the big birthday emummy, was it 40?

Off to Google hydration vest.

40 I’m afraid, is a distant memory @Iamblossom! It was 50 - always nice to move up an age category!

Cool and misty this morning, perfect for a steady run.

Some more miles to add for me. I lost my old running buddy (of the four legged variety) on Saturday, so it was an emotional 12 miles on Sunday, through some places that had been very special to us. Then 4 this morning. I have changed my watch face to his picture, so he’s still running with me.

Oh @Spudlet I’m so sorry. It’s really hard. Lovely that you can still take him with you in spirit

OP posts:
Iamblossom · 29/06/2021 17:58

Oh @spudlet I am very sorry to hear that. Sending lots of hugs. I will be devastated when the time comes for either of my running chums. My Huawei watch keeps announcing motivational things when I run and also telling me when I have "passed my smart companion" whatever the hell that is, the digital version of a running partner I guess, and me and my friend call my sausage dog my "smart companion". You must miss them very much. Flowers

So on my amazon search for a hydration vest I realised I didn't need one of those but obviously ended up buying a vest/strap thing for your phone, key and in my case at the moment inhaler, so gave that a whirl this afternoon.

Welcome all new people. Great to have you here.
lamblossom I had to change my inhaler earlier in the year and it took a little while to properly kick in but then the difference was amazing.
spudlet so sorry to hear your news. I can only imagine how hard it is to lose your 4 legged running buddy, they are something so special aren’t they. Glad you have the lovely memories.

Went for a quick one as the football started - lovely and quiet. And home in time for the exciting bits.

Thanks guys. I am slightly less weepy now than I was (honestly, I’ve been like a human water feature all weekend) but it’s just really sad. I keep expecting to see him when I walk into the house or downstairs, and he’s just not there. We are lucky to have a beautiful painting of him that a friend did which really captured him though, and I’ve been speaking to a breeder today about a possible successor to His Lordship - not yet, but perhaps by the end of the year. Be a few years before I have another little running mate though.

@Iamblossom How are things going on the breathing and inhaler front? Is the wheezing easing off?

Iamblossom · 29/06/2021 20:01

Thanks for asking. 🤗. Better. I now have a combo inhaler, only on day 2 of that but do think it has improved things....

Doublethecuddles · 29/06/2021 21:18

A social run along the beach with friends this morning. Always good to catch up with everyone.

Spudlet sorry for your sad news. I’m sure you have lots of wonderful memories.

@Spudlet Sorry for your news. We have a lovely portrait of our old lab in the sitting room - it's so nice to see his face still.

Running club track session today. Struggled to locate the desired pace on 200m intervals and think I was going nearer/above 5k pace than 10k pace but did 4 miles of 200m run, 200 steady and was relatively consistent at faster than my old "10k" pace which I'd assumed was around 10s/mile slower than I found I could do. Had to finish 16 laps to make a round distance because I'm silly like that...

I am never seen running up & down my street to round my run up to a full mile, no not me…
Hill reps in the sun this morning, up to 6 now on a nasty wee hill. I know it’s good for me, but some days it is no fun!
How’s everyone’s weather? Saw a thread complaining about weather - we’ve been pretty good, cool mornings but mostly sunny and around 19-21 degrees which is good for us. Had the odd 23-25 day too.

Weather for me has been hot and sunny. Hit enough that the shorts came out for my track session. I've been trying to get out early before it heats up.

DH is currently in East Anglia and they've had a lot more rain and cloud than us. Also watching Wimbledon with the roof closed while sweltering at home has been a surprise too.

Just did 2 miles at zone 3 and under yesterday. Testing the waters of running 5 days a week so bringing in the extra day gently.

Thank you all. I loved him very much indeed. He was nortiest of all the norty dogs, and it’s very quiet now.

However, onwards and upwards…. Just over 4.5 miles today, it was supposed to be 5 but I slightly misjudged my route. I guess I could have bunged the extra bit on when I arrived at the car, but there were horses and dogs and all sorts milling around and I just couldn’t be bothered to thread my way around everyone!

I got new shoes yesterday! They are bigger than my last ones, as I got a men’s pair for the width. Now paranoid that they will be too big. Wearing them around the house today before I take them for a spin tomorrow, just down to school.

I have men's shoes as well @Spudlet as my favourite trail shoes don't go up to my size. I don't think it's too noticeable

A lovely 5 miles along the beach this morning. It was warm, blue skies and no wind. Perfect summers day.

5 miles with the running club nice and steady. Hot and sticky plus inevitable little protein parcels around (but probably net loss as they bite...).

I have new trail shoes to christen. Probably do that on Sunday...
