Hi all still here but swimming most days not running. Did have a doctor's appt and I now have a new inhaler plus a spirometer to track my peak flow of breathing each morning and night. So frustrating but hopefully it will get better soon.

Amaura · 07/06/2021 19:39

I was ‘only’ doing a half on Saturday so therefore got caught out with hydration. Need to switch into summer mode, I lose a lot of salt in the heat

20 miles to add, now have to step back up again this week. Also in the rolling club as I’ve had a grumpy calf for a few weeks now.

Hope you are feeling better soon @Iamblossom, glad you’re still able to get out swimming.
Warm run through town after rubbish sleep, got busy day at work so coffee overdose time!

@Iamblossom Apparently this is going to be a very bad year for hay fever. I’m absolutely streaming, I’ve got a sore throat and my eyes are stinging like crazy! I think the pollen count is through the roof locally, tbh. Hope you feel better soon - if you think it may be allergies, I would recommend giving a nasal spray called Prevalin a go. I used it when I was pregnant on the recommendation of a pharmacist as it’s apparently drug-free. I haven’t needed it for a few years but I’ll be trying to get hold of some myself as I’m struggling too. Bloody grass and trees abs nature. Eurgh Wink

The training plan called for 4 miles today but it’s bloody hot and nature is trying to murder me, so I did 3.5 and came home for a sit down indoors, away from the sex-crazed plants. Grin

10 slow hot sticky miles yesterday. First week I’ve combined running with climbing on a day.

I just assumed hay fever gets worse every year, however my weather trigger is low pressure, so apart from hating the heat, I’m ok in summer unless it’s stormy.

Hope everyone is adjusting and getting used to it now (heat, hay fever and asthma)

A struggle of 4 miles yesterday and a sociable 5 miles with a friend this morning. I am also struggling with the heat, I think I will need to buy a pair of shorts!

I hope everybody’s hay fever gets better once all the trees are in leaf.

Too hot! Have got my legs out and will be buying a 2nd pair of shorts!

Dozer · 10/06/2021 20:03

V sorry for the hay fever sufferers.

emummy · 11/06/2021 19:27

A 2nd pair of shorts @Dozer! Steady on!
Toasty run this evening; skipped one of my midweek runs so incorporated that planned hill session into tonight’s steady run. Went ok, hard work, got a wee touch of tonsillitis which may not be helping! Lovely breeze saved me, as did a wee splash of water from the river on the back of my neck. Loving going out without 5 layers on, and am expecting my new shorts to be delivered soon!

8 and a 5 to add. Got a tough back to back run weekend coming up, am a bit worried but will see how it goes. I’ve booked in to see a physio and my calf as the tightness has not gone away

Beautiful sunny weather here today; so took it slow, plenty to drink & it went well. I was very hot by the end but not too tired. Hope everyone is enjoying lovely weather this weekend

Hi - realised I’d forgotten to post all week
Taper week for me and then a 50k race today. It is fair to say it was hard going in 26c heat. I was pleased with my efforts all things considered but I prefer it a bit cooler Smile

Amaura · 13/06/2021 20:13

Oh wow @Purpleraindeer that must have been brutal. Well done!

A set of back to back runs this weekend: 22 and 17. Kept it flat but still found it really hard. A bit annoyed I was 0.2 short of 40 miles this weekend, but there is no way I’m rounding it off.

Lovely run in the forest today - I was very glad of the shade and my half-frozen water! The advantage of being on a hilly route was having the tracks mostly to myself, though it was hard going in some places. Week 2 of the 5k plan has gone well; it still seems impossible that I might reach my goal but I am having fun trying.

Nearly forgot this week's miles; 301.8

Spudlet · 14/06/2021 12:19

3.75 and 7 to add for me. The former a nice run in the woods with company, the latter a slog through some very overgrown pathways. My lower legs were protected by calf sleeves but my thighs look like they’ve been attacked by an extremely angry cat! Confused

Foot is a bit sore now, I think my hormones affect it as it’s been just fine all month. Hoping it will feel better if I rest today, as I’m planning to repeat last week on the training plan before moving on again next week.

312.5 I think

emummy · 15/06/2021 08:58

Steady run in the sun but quite a bit cooler. Managed to negative split each mile which was nice!

Good work on the negative split @emummy

I’ve tried a new approach to race recovery this time. I did a run walk yesterday and rested (well did some yoga) today. Legs a bit DOMS -y but hopefully ok by tomorrow.

IRun4Me · 16/06/2021 09:48

Hello sorry fell off for a while. Still been running but everything got very busy and I just had to put my head down and plod to stop getting a bit overwhelmed. Been trying to fit runs in around everything so been doing shorter ones but that’s probably been better in this heat. Hop

Thing posted to early!!
Hopefully get a longer one this weekend when it’s a bit cooler. Added my miles for most of June.

emummy · 17/06/2021 13:18

Short speed session this morning, nice & warm again!

Well done for keeping it going @IRun4Me - I find getting out for a run is a sanity saver when I’m overwhelmed.

Weather has really changed here. It is cool now and lots of rain forecast. 5m easy today and felt almost recovered from Sunday so doing short slow runs even when it was sore obviously helped. Smile

IRun4Me · 17/06/2021 20:21

Thanks purpleraindeer it has definitely kept me going. Glad you have recovered.
Forecast for rain this evening but was dry and humid and a little cooler so more comfortable. I was running around the local (small) city while the child at his activity and saw people dressed up for an evening out - it was so lovely to see. Seems so long since I’ve seen people dressed up for a night out.

Perfect running conditions today and was hoping for a longish one but the legs felt too heavy. Enjoyed the few miles I did though.

Chatty group run in a new place today which was great. Non stop geeky run chat about kit/races etc and lots of sharing of tips and experience. Pace was nice and slow which was what I needed!
