Sorry to hear that @PaddingtonPaddington, was thinking about you yesterday actually. As you say there is always time for another go. Glad you’re feeling back on it

emummy · 01/06/2021 08:43

Sorry about your race @PaddingtonPaddington, glad you’re feeling better and back to running.
Lovely mountain/hill running photos there! Excellent Munro bagging @Amaura!
Steady run through town for me, legs felt very heavy, not feeling the love for work at the moment and it’s pulling me down a bit. Lovely sunshine though.

@PaddingtonPaddington Aw, that’s rubbish. Glad you feel better now though.

Four miles for me this morning. The Grumbly Foot was intermittently aching last night after Sunday so I was a bit unsure of what to expect, but it was actually fine, totally pain free. I applied some tape for ankle stability, so wondering if that might have helped? That was the very end of my tape roll though, so hoping the new rolls will arrive before Thursday! And definitely before Sunday because that is the day that I will be doing my longest ever run at 10 miles - which I know it nothing to some people but is a bloody long way to me! So hoping the foot will continue to behave, the other one won’t join in (it keeps threatening but then it stops) and I won’t get lost Grin Could be a marathon yet....

Nice to see you back @PaddingtonPaddington. Sorry to hear about the race. That is gutting. Well done for making the call - must have been difficult.

@Spudlet - good luck for your 10miler - double figures is a milestone Smile

Afternoon run today - was still really warm at 5pm. I might have to invest in some shorts Shock

Not running this week as really wheezy for some reason, actually unearthed an old inhaler, can you get hay-fever at 46?

Missing it. Still swimming and walking though.

emummy · 02/06/2021 09:32

Sorry to hear that @Iamblossom. I get hay fever at 49; I have had it on & off since childhood, but it has been more of a problem the last 3-4 years, don’t know why. Is a trip to the doctor needed?

OP posts:
Purpleraindeer · 02/06/2021 19:09

I wondered if hayfever was bad for everyone at the mo due to the sudden warm weather after all the rain which presumably dampens down the pollen? This may be a load of rubbish though.

5x2k intervals today. Super tough as I think I’m quite tired anyway and the heat made it feel hard work. I was walk/running for my cool down as I couldn’t keep even to jogging pace.

Amaura · 03/06/2021 07:54

I now recognise I have hay fever. Looking back I suspect I’ve had it since a team but didn’t quite click as symptoms were just sinus pain. I thought I had got away with it atm but having just come from Scotland it’s hit me/noticed it.

4 very gentle miles today. Calves need some good rolling and think I need my bruises to settle a bit. Luckily it’s scheduled recovery week.

Wee tempo run in the sun today, managed reasonable pace.

4 miles in the sunshine this morning, 1 mile to warm up, 2 miles at goal pace, and 1 to cool down. Although actually the difference in my pace was minimal, I’m just generally fairly slow all round Grin And to be a bit fair to myself, the ground affects my pace a lot - can’t be going too fast over ruts and roots, I need a bit of a chance to see where my feet are landing. And I’m super cautious about long grass ever since I fell into a hidden hole last year and fucked my ankle up (again. Always the same ankle 😑).

Is anyone else finding the sudden change in temperature a bit hard to get used to? Goodness knows I’m not complaining, but last week it was long sleeves and long leggings for me, and this week it’s shorts and vests, and I don’t think my body quite knows what on earth is going on Grin🥵

emummy · 03/06/2021 13:13

Yes my body is very confused, add in being peri-menopausal and I am just a lovely soggy mess after! On hotter days I find it helps to have a cold drink before I go and I will take a drink with me even on shorter runs, especially if I'm doing any speed work.
It is lovely to just go out in shorts & t shirt though and not have to carry extra layers.

I’m definitely rocking the sweaty beetroot look Shock
Run this evening while DS at his activity. I decided to run down to the river then panicked that I didn’t have enough time to get back so had to run quite fast. Made it in time and actually enjoyed pushing myself.
Two runs to add.

Anything above 15C and I struggle to run it! Living in Scotland I don’t find it too much of a problem. 😂
2 x 5 miles with different friends along the beach this week.

Nice run tonight, was bright sunshine to start then clouded over, still a good 18 degrees. It can get surprisingly warm in this part of Aberdeenshire because we’re inland, so it was best & shorts time.

Vest and shorts! Can’t believe autocorrect changed it to best, very odd

Last run of my hols today Sad. I finally think I’m getting a bit more sure footed on mountain paths. I have no idea how it is possible to do an easy run on this terrain though. I guess maybe people who live here are just fitter?

Maybe @Purpleraindeer, personally I just run them very slowly and walk a lot, admiring the view! It's certainly a workout for your brain, trying to run on very technical paths. I did a half marathon on part of the West Highland Way a few years back; for miles it was all big stones, nowhere to flat to put your feet, it was really hard work.
Sorry your holidays are done, hope you had a good time.

Tough holly run in the forest this morning, beautiful sunshine and didn’t meet another soul till the last 200 yards when an enthusiastic dog joined me!

Hilly not holly. I really need to read before I post.

An easy 5 1/2 miles yesterday and a tough 10 miles today. It’s was the longest I have run for a long time and it was very hot ( well for me) I didn’t take any water and got a bit dehydrated.

Hope you have had a good holiday Purpleraindeer

A holly run does sound tough @emummy!

Sorry to hear you’ve both been suffering in the heat - me too. Was struggling a lot today and was slower than normal - it was humid which didn’t help. My race vest rubbed as well so I was in a bit of a sorry state when I got back

Spudlet · 06/06/2021 20:30

Did my 10 miles today, bloody Nora it was tough. I decided to recce some of my planned marathon route so was some new paths and they were pretty bad - thigh high nettles (I was in shorts!) and really humid as they were so enclosed. Then I met a load of motocross bikers who scared the shit out of me - first I knew of it was one guy going in the opposite direction on a track adjacent to me, the next thing I knew he was making his way up the really narrow path behind me and I had a flash of thinking he’d seen me and followed me and I was in a really quiet, isolated spot. Of course he was just going about his business, but with his face completely covered it was really intimidating.

Anyway, I did it. It wasn’t fast and it definitely wasn’t pretty, but I did it. Think I’ll be replanning my marathon route to avoid that path though, I’ll be quite happy never to see it again!

What weather to start a speed plan in! Luckily I have done most of the week's runs in the evening which definitely helps temperature wise. Enjoying it so far but I have slightly niggly hamstrings and knees so need to take it a bit easier this week. Funny, everyone says adding strength and conditioning reduces injury risk but I always find it starts niggles, probably due to running with tight legs. Yesterday was my long run but I wanted to do a particular route for the club Strava challenge, which turned out to be super hilly. Slowed right down, particularly on the uphills, and it was fine.

Congratulations on your ten miler @Spudlet though sorry about the motorcross scare. Is there a way of finding out when that track will be used? And yes to the frustration of shorts season conciding with nettles being at their peak!

Spudlet · 07/06/2021 07:27

In all honesty I don’t think it was an official track - he was on the marked footpath and I’m pretty sure should not have been there, then the rest were all razzing round on some open access land.

Sorry about the niggly legs - foam roller session needed? I have a love-hate relationship with mine, it’s bloody torturous when you’re doing it, but it does help afterwards I find.

UnaOfStormhold · 07/06/2021 09:04

I have been foam rollering a lot - I have a very handy stick with rollers that is great for getting the knots out and much easier to use on awkward areas than my big roller.
