I love having busy weekends again but it does make it harder to fit in running! This morning I set off at 7am to fit in a 10 mile run before taking DS to tennis and then the zoo. The birdsong was lovely, as was seeing a few shafts of sunlight through the clouds, and I managed a 10 mile pb. I had done a bit of last minute route planning to make sure I passed today's Monopoly square, which took me down some new trails (always a pleasure!) But my thighs and glutes are now sore, so walking round the zoo will be a bit of an endurance challenge. I think I prefer evening runs where there isn't much to do between running and bedtime.

Well done UnaOfStormhold on your PB. It does get more difficult when DC activities are back in full swing.
I had planned a longer run this morning while DD was swimming. Unfortunately I pulled a hamstring while out running yesterday and hobbled 4 miles home. Resting for a couple of days.

Hope you survived the zoo @UnaOfStormhold. I did something similar and got out early for my long run before dashing home, showering and getting out for the day. Knackered now zzzzzzz

4.4 miles yesterday with DS on his bike, as DH had his first jab on Saturday and was feeling crummy. Unfortunately running with DS like this means not much of a warm up and a lot of sudden stops, and I’ve got a shin splint now. I just want to cry as it’s really painful, it’s really frustrating, and DH just laughed at me because I was limping down the garden Sad Is that completely pathetic? It is a bit, isn’t it?

Anyway 320.1

5km with the dogs and the hills and the mud today. Enjoyed. Must be mad. Grin

What did Liliolla say? Intrigued . Hmm

Dogs, hills & mud sounds great @Iamblossom. I didn’t see the deleted post so no idea! We’ve had selling type posts before, maybe it was that.
Steady run in town this morning, slightly doped up on cocodamol after a tricky tooth extraction yesterday. Legs still feeling the effects if Sunday’s big hill.

Hope you''re feeling better, @Spudlet and @Doublethecuddles, and your muscles aren't too sore @UnaOfStormhold

@Iamblossom, well done on the swimming!

A lovely 3.5 miles for me this morning - not a single twinge, and I even managed to sprint the last 100m AND no knee support. The freedom!!!

I may see if I can manage 4 miles on Saturday...

Spudlet · 11/05/2021 11:58

@50FootWave Excellent news on the knee!

I felt a lot better this morning - I really attacked the Grumbly Foot leg hard with the foam roller of doom last night as everything was stupidly tight (there was a lot of swearing, and high levels concern from the dog) so I put on some calf sleeves for a bit of support and went out with the mindset that anything was good and if I had to cut things short that was ok. Did 3.5 miles around the woods walking and running, with only very mild twinges towards the very end. So feeling a lot happier today. Going to attack with the foam roller again later and get some ice on the foot. I may also take some preventative ibuprofen to try and knock any residual inflammation down. Physio again tomorrow.

330.1 (I hope my maths is right)

UnaOfStormhold · 11/05/2021 17:45

The 3k walk round the zoo felt longer and harder than the 10 mile run, but I'm much less sore today. That said, I'm actually quite glad there wasn't space at running club this evening (they encourage people who run one week to give others priority the next week), which gives me another recovery day. I managed 2k to claim my latest monopoly square and plan to do a proper run tomorrow.

Purpleraindeer · 11/05/2021 21:25

Glad the foam roller did the business @Spudlet. I love/hate ours. It hurts, but it does work.

Easy run today. Was good for my mood. Was fed up when I left the house. Felt a lot better when I got back Smile

Just found this thread! Exciting.

I started jogging when turned 40, never thought it’d be something would do, now do 10k most days, mainly on trails near my home. Don’t have goals, really, just enjoy it as leisure time.

Main frustrations at the moment are plantar fasciitis, had it since before the running, and have stumpy muscles and hip stiffness from sitting all day for work! Want to something to help with that but time is limited and it’s reserved for running!

IRun4Me · 12/05/2021 08:43

Hello. I am still here. Think like everyone else life is busy busy. Have read through the latest posts and sounds like everyone is doing well and hopefully all niggles are continuing to recover.

Welcome Dozer I get stiff hips when I don’t stretch enough- it’s got worse as I’ve got older.

Done a couple of virtual events last 2 weekends both of which went really well. Managed my fastest ever half marathon in one, which wasn’t my aim but really pleased. Did one with DS and he came 3rd in his age group which he was dead chuffed about. It also meant he forgave me for all the nagging whilst we were doing it Grin

Need to add all my May miles

Welcome @Dozer! Do you have a foam roller? They’re good for sorting out muscles, painful but good! I am definitely stiffer now with sitting so much, I make sure to do a dynamic warm up before runs to loosen things up. I never used to but always do now, think as I get older I need it more!

3 more miles in mud up hills with dogs.

My dogs are so mental, it's like they have never been outside before EVERYSINGLETIME!! They are fun to run with, their enthusiasm is catching.

Welcome @Dozer

Purpleraindeer · 12/05/2021 14:44

Hi @dozer! Plantar fasciitis is the worst. I had it last summer - i was advised to do calf raises, check my shoes weren’t worn out, roll a tennis ball under the arch of my foot and not to go barefoot. No idea what of that lot worked but it eventually did.

Faster run today. Went on a road route and there was so much traffic. Lockdown has definitely ended here. I need to remember to look when crossing the road - it has been so quiet there has been no need for a while but I think we’re back to normal now.

Thanks v much everyone! I never warm up or stretch at all Blush and the foam roller (DH bought it years ago) is covered in dust! Should change that!

Congrats on your half marathon PB and your DS’s great result, IRun4Me

Spudlet · 13/05/2021 13:00

@Dozer Plantar fasciitis is horrible! I found doing this really helped with mine earlier in the year.

angryorthopod.com/2016/03/calf-stretching/

3.3 miles this morning takes me over the 200 mile mark for the year. Also got nettled for the first time - I had calf sleeves on but the sneaky little bugger got me in the little gap between the bottom of the sleeve and the top of my sock 😑 But the Grumbly Foot was fairly quiet so feeling cautiously optimistic about the weekend - the training plan says 7 miles, which will be the furthest I’ve done for a while. So fingers crossed it will be ok.

Spudlet · 13/05/2021 13:01

I should say got nettled for the first time this year - it’s really not a new experience for me Grin Just a marker that things are finally starting to grow again after a cold spring!

emummy · 13/05/2021 14:49

I know it’s spring when I start checking my legs for ticks after a run! Glad the grumbly foot is behaving

Doublethecuddles · 13/05/2021 18:38

Had a slow 5 miles run with a friend and hamstring held didn’t grumble.

emummy ticks love my DD and not me. She has had the. In her belly button, head and eyelid!

Amaura · 13/05/2021 21:26

24 miles so far this week. Feels longer but I know that’s just the big part of the training programme kicking in. Not helped by asthma flare up.

I’ve booked a weekend in Scotland to start getting my mountain legs back in. That’s the end of the month. Have some running poles instead of walking ones to try out, plus a larger bag.

I think i recognise some from here on RMR, but it’s probably best to keep the two worlds apart.

Oh and my trail race is open! Not many entrants so far, hoping they are all just checking their race calendars and making sure they are free.

Well done to everyone so far this month, looks amazing. Even with our nettle scratches

Sorry for annoyingly posting twice!
No nettles here (yet) but lots of rain so I’m expecting them up to my neck by Saturday!
Where is your trail race @amaura?

7m easy tonight after work. My HR was much higher than in the am and it was a bit of a drag. I’m definitely better in the morning.
