4 miles for me today. Foot was a tiny bit grumbly at times so am now icing it and hoping it will behave. I have my first jab this afternoon so I may not feel like running at the start of next week anyway I guess. Weirdly I think it was driving yesterday that set it off - we collected our new car from a town quite a long way away and there was a lot of congestion on the way out, so I was using the clutch a lot. Noticed my foot starting to twinge slightly at that point. I don’t really drive all that often these days and only on country roads normally, so I don’t often have the pleasure of sitting in traffic!

Ran 5km with dogs round the playing fields on Thursday, nice and flat so my fastest 5km for ages. My lab has developed a habit of running right by my ankles, my sausage dog runs on the other side but just ahead of me, I think she is used to getting out from underfoot. Anyway to look at it you'd think wow what a well trained lab, but he has decided he likes swapping sides periodically and runs directly over the back of my ankles, sending me flying, I have to really watch where he is, bloody dog! 😂

5km in the gym on the treadmill on Thursday, upped the speed to try and approximate the speed I run at outside.

Set off with both dogs at our usual woody area yesterday, lab charges about like a loon as usual whenever we start, manages to wrench his foot (bloody dog), so we limp back to the car. Set off from home again just with the sausage and had a fab 5km run round a loop I usually just walk, over stiles, through gates, proper cross country I really enjoyed it.

10km with my friend this morning, lovely sunny day, enjoyed chatting and running with her. So 25km to add to the total.

Mind blown that yoga doesn't help with running, but I do it 3 or 5 times a week to stretch out my back and hips from running, like a PP it really helps me be slightly less creaky getting out of bed.

I also managed to swim a mile this week. Cross training innit 😂. (stole that off a PP it made me LOL)

Amaura · 02/05/2021 14:52

10.5 miles today taking me to 60 miles this week. Actually felt a lot better than last week and could have pushed it a bit more I reckon. Recovery week next week, then more of the same but hillier

I’m off to drink loads of coffee

93 miles for me in April

Purpleraindeer · 02/05/2021 17:38

Well done @Amaura. Big week and big weekend mileage!

I think yoga is good for mobility which is good for running but being flexible is actually less good as makes you more injury prone. I’m like others on here - I do it as I think it helps me with an overall creaky feeling and it is relaxing.

2 longish runs this weekend. Lovely sunny weather and good underfoot so was actually quite fast (well fast for me!)

Sunday trail run and a new route despite getting a bit disoriented and intervals tonight in the awful weather.

Yucky weather here too! Steady run through town, 1st week of the training plan.

Morning! Am here, am running, work is a bit crackers!

Knee is better! I keep expecting The Twinge but it seems to have finally got the message. I'll slowly add some mileage from next week.

Hope everyone is well - lovely to hear that swimming is making a come back!

Two runs to add:

Miraculously I’ve managed to get 2 runs in the last 24hrs without getting a soaking. I don’t know how I got that lucky. Am feeling it now as due to work getting in the way (rude!) I had to go at 5pm last night then 7am today which is not enough rest for me.

Good news on the knee @50FootWave

Touch wood I seem to be in a bit of a sweet spot running wise at the moment, niggles from earlier in the year seem much better and I have been able to make progress with my training which is starting to bear fruit.

I'm enjoying being back at club, really fun session last night including a caterpillar (six people do a steady run, back person sprints to the front, when they get there the new back person starts sprinting) and various other bits of speed work with lots of chatting in between. And I'm hoping to get to my fifth Monopoly square today for the Strava challenge.

3 runs done this week, also without getting wet, although caught in a snow storm cutting the grass ! Trying to work out how I can fit in the longer runs which I really enjoy at the weekends now DC are back at full activities.

Glad the knee is behaving 50FootWave

34 miles since Sunday . 11 miles on Monday during which I encountered the worst hailstones I have ever seen. Thankfully it was at mile 9 where I had to stop for a few minutes as the pavement was so slippy. Then it all just turned into a river and everything got soaked ! Training this evening after a slowish run of 5 miles this morning . Did 4 miles at Training and legs sore . In fact legs have been sore since Monday after jumping into and over puddles during the final 2 miles . Funny how a change in conditions can have such an impact !

The weather does play a big part doesn’t it!
Short hill session for me this morning, felt quite tough but it’s done & somehow managed to do it in between the wintry showers.

Glad the knee is behaving itself @50FootWave!

Had my first jab on Sunday afternoon and felt a bit crummy on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, so decided to just go for a walk on Tuesday instead of a run. Much better by Wednesday though so I did a kettlebells class that evening (knackered even with the lightest weight available Blush) and just back from a run now. The Grumbly Foot seems to be not too bad at the moment? So we shall see how it goes. Physio again next week.

Thank you @Doublethecuddles @Purpleraindeer and @Spudlet - hope The Grumbly Foot is going in the same direction as The Naughty Knee.

Congrats on getting your first jab, glad the side effects were ok-ish.

I woke up full of beans ready to have a solid run only to run out of steam after a mile! Typical! No idea what happened (possibly not enough dinner the night before), so enjoyed a brisk walk instead. So just one mile from me today!

I have managed to carve out 2 hours on Sunday while my husband takes our son to tennis (and plays a bit himself too) which is a good chunk of time for a long run for me. I don't know how I would ever manage to fit in marathon or ultra training long runs!

Purpleraindeer · 06/05/2021 21:27

Got caught out in the hail today. Was bound to happen after I got so lucky on tues and weds. Took ages to warm up again.

@UnaOfStormhold apparently when training for Marathons and ultras you shouldn’t run more than 2.5hrs very often as the training benefit of it is outweighed by the length of time it takes to recover. I was a bit skeptical of this having always thought I needed to run long but I’ve decided to give it a whirl. I’ve done 3 runs longer than 2.5hrs since jan and have a 50k race mid June. We’ll see if it works. I hope so, as going out for 3-4hrs all the time is not practical for me and makes me knackered. Enjoy your long run at the weekend. Smile

UnaOfStormhold · 07/05/2021 08:50

Interesting @Purpleraindeer - when doing my half marathon training plan I found I needed to be really careful not to wear myself out with training distance. Increasing total distance led to getting steadily stiffer and nigglier, until I had to cut back a bit. It's hard to judge as a run that felt easy and pain free can lead to discomfort and niggles later so I am watching my weekly distance carefully - 35k seems ok, anything over 40 needs me to cut back the following week. Good luck for your ultra!

emummy · 08/05/2021 10:34

Steady run this morning, now relaxing with coffee in my new logos recovery shoes which I am in love with!

Bloody autocorrect - oofos recovery shoes!

Just finished recovery week, about 31 miles to add. I was doing short runs but kept running at that annoying mid pace as was with other people. But annoyed at myself as meant I’m not really as recovered as I should be. Still got a gentle trail half in today and have tomorrow off, so hopefully will feel rested enough come Tuesday

Purpleraindeer · 08/05/2021 13:34

am intrigued by recovery shoes @emummy!

@Amaura - it’s difficult isn’t it - running with other people is nice but then it doesn’t always quite fit with the plan.

I self sabotaged again (2nd week running - I literally don’t learn) and ran much too hard today as felt good so now my long run tomorrow will feel hard. I enjoyed it whilst it happened though Smile

Beautiful day here, planned run in the forest then changed the route on a whim to go up the hill above our town. Fab run, from hill top & views to gorgeous forest trail, but it was hard work! 760 feet of climb, mostly in the first 2 miles.
I need my oofos now! @Purpleraindeer they’re fab - I usually wear Skechers in the house because I get quite sore feet, but saw these and thought I’d try them. They are so comfy, I look forward to getting home & putting them on!

A paltry 3 miles from this morning to add this week. 2 days in london wiped me out and came back with a head cold. Did manage 2 swims though.
