Who's signed up for RED January 2021?
Formerly known as Run Every Day, now Regular Exercise Daily.

This will be my 4th year (I'll miss the t-shirt but dig out my oldies). I think with the state of the world, not only do I need it more than ever but my motivation is more fragile than ever too.

I aim to exercise outdoors daily. Lots of running, hopefully my outdoor classes continuing and some walking as active rest.

I'm also eyeing up Adriene's January series Breathe. I enjoyed Home at the start of 2020. I've lost my yoga habit at present though.

I haven't signed up yet but am planning to do so. I'm hoping to start marathon training with the intention of running a marathon in 2021 or 2022 so it would be a good kickstart.

BogRollBOGOF · 31/12/2020 14:17

If you'd asked me last year, I'd have been starting to train for a 40th birthday marathon this spring... I shelved that plan by late summer as it's just such a huge commitment of training and I wanted to feel secure that it definitely will happen. Plus lack of consistency and races in the past 6 months although I was lucky to get two races in in the autumn.

I've found in previous years that lots of shorter runs in Jan mean I'm faster by Feb and it's easy to ramp up distance when rest days come back in.

Never heard of this. Sounds like a fab idea. Still trying to sort my weight out from the first lockdown..... Christenedmy new trainers for 7 minutes today.

Redcrayons · 31/12/2020 21:36

I’ve just signed up. Planning at least 5k a day, though may walk/jog a couple of days a week. I did it for November lockdown and really enjoyed getting out.

Also going to do Adriene. Did my first 30 day last January and have kept it going throughout the year. Really loved it.

Would like to shift the lockdown/Christmas pounds but not my main motivation.

IRun4Me · 31/12/2020 21:57

I’m doing it. Done it the last couple of years and found it so good to keep me motivated and get through January

Chocolateteabag · 01/01/2021 09:51

I want to do this but it's icy and raining outside - and the sofa is so warm Grin

I need a big push to get my grippy things strapped to my trainers and at least run round the block

There is a NE running shop doing a running treasure hunt in Jan (Run unlimited on Facebook) - today is a pub selfie so trying to work out how I can run past my (closed) local on the shortest distance (lazy)

Redcrayons · 01/01/2021 10:11

I’ve just got back from my first 5K. Nearly went arse over tit quite a few times, even with my trails on.

Be careful out there.

Day 1✅

Chocolateteabag · 01/01/2021 12:11

Day 1 done - a piddling 1.5mile loop past the pub as it's still very icy and muddy (and I am hungover)
But I did it!

Planning a longer route without the dog tomorrow

AuntieStella · 01/01/2021 12:31

I'm in!

Had a serious loss of running mojo in the last couple of months of the year, and am hoping thus will help me recover it. I did it in 2019, and ran a GFA 10k (my all time PB) in early Feb that year so it really did make a difference. I don't know if I will be as full on this time (last time I really did run every day, this time aim is for activity every day)

Started well, with a little 2miler this morning

IRun4Me · 01/01/2021 16:23

Day 1 done. Very much a had to do it run rather than a wanted to.
Everything counts chicolateteabag so well done.

CalmConfident · 01/01/2021 17:27

I am in! Building back up after injury.

Did my home parkrun course route today, only 6 mins slower than in the summer. Going to do it on the 1st of each month until parkrun is back.
Establishing positive action in Jan.

MrsMiaWallis · 01/01/2021 17:30

I really enjoyed pootling about at the beginning of last year, then I broke my arm and stopped. It's sheet ice outside and thick mud on the footpaths so I am only walking. My normal drive to run route is now in tier 4 so I can't do that either. Argh.

GinnieHempstock · 01/01/2021 18:39

I’m in, too.

Did a 5km run this afternoon and have a nice long, lazy bath as a treat afterwards.
I’m not planning on running every day, but I have an Apple Watch and will endeavour to close my 30 minute exercise ring every day.

BogRollBOGOF · 02/01/2021 00:37

My first run done.
4.62k using C25k 6.2
I quite like reverting back to the podcasts for short gentle runs.

RED#1 ✅

Day 2 done - 9.38k in the snow

Once I'd got out of the village the icy bits stopped and it was a lot easier. Until I got to the muddy field which was still muddy but now snow covered

Hasn't stopped snowing since then so tomorrow will be fun!

EmmaStone · 02/01/2021 16:26

I'm going to attempt this, probably not much running though 😁. Will be a combination of Adriene's Breath 30 days of yoga, Peloton classes (mainly rides), long outdoor walks, 'proper' yoga classes and a fortnightly PT session. Will probably try to throw in the odd jog, I need to try to get back into it, but it's not my favourite thing. Like a PP, I've got an Apple Watch, and always close my 30 exercise minutes (but it can be deceptive - I've already done 25 mins today and all I've done is poodle around town 😂). My watch sets me monthly challenges, and this month it's to walk or run 7.8km average a day, so I suspect there will be quite a few lunchtime walks schedules ahead...

EmmaStone · 02/01/2021 16:28

Oh, and yesterday's workout was my normal yoga teacher's NYD Zoom class for 60mins. Was a bit spicier than I expected, I'd hoped she'd go nice and easy on us, but seeing as she's also a yoga teacher and a lot of her 'graduates' were on the call, she wanted to be able to pitch something that was also a bit more challenging for those who are more advanced.

About to head upstairs for my first day of 30 days of yoga with Adriene.

Redcrayons · 03/01/2021 12:28

Red day 3 ✅
Not quite so icy and slippy today so a bit more running and less walking than yesterday.

Chocolateteabag · 03/01/2021 18:42

Day 3 done - very slushy run to get the paper (2.5k)- ankle deep slush or puddles all the way to the road bit which was then one long puddle - ugh
Not much snow has since gone so I expect another slushy totter tomorrow
On the plus side it's keeping me to a slow and steady start - so hopefully I can keep this going until there is a bit of a thaw?
(Ordered yaktrax run gripper things to be on the safe side though!)

GinnieHempstock · 03/01/2021 18:48

Signing in. 7km yesterday and a home work out today - some strength and core training.
My body doesn’t like it if I run more then 2-3 days in a row, so I will take the opportunity on the days I’m not running to do some strength training.

Onlyherefortheconspiracies · 03/01/2021 20:39

I'm in. Always too hungover on the first but ran/skated Grin yesterday and kettlebells today. Also doing Adrienne.

Chocolateteabag · 04/01/2021 17:31

Day 4 "done" - a whopping 1.3km ice slide down into the village and back up the road. I gave up! it was just too icy. But I guess it kind of counts

BogRollBOGOF · 04/01/2021 19:22

Days 2, 3 & 4 done Smile
2.18k
3.22k
6.03k

Pretty good so far.
Did the first session of breath, but with the family constantly around I've been put off from days 2&3 being 30+ mins.

OP posts:
GinnieHempstock · 04/01/2021 19:28

Did another 5.27km today, so day 4 done. Slow, but did it when I wasn’t really in the mood.

Taswama · 04/01/2021 19:38

Can I join. Exercise is definitely good for mental health.
Day 1 - run with kids (maybe 4k?)
Day 2 - yoga with A
Day 3 - run (about 6k), family walk, AND yoga with A
Day 4 - short walk, yoga and climbing

Aiming to get out for walk at least every day as well as doing the yoga.
