I'm a fat lazy slob! I'm constantly tired, grumpy, frumpy and frazzled! I'm mid forties, my hair has emigrated from my head to my multiple chins, and its time I actually started to turn my dumpy life around. Anyone want to join me? From the 1st January I'm going to start c25k using the NHS app. From 4th January I'll be giving up sugar. My aim is to get fit rather than slim, because I'm such an elephant that trying to set a weight goal will just demotivate me😂.
Everyone welcome.

Yes I will try and stick with it. I do feel a lot fitter. Unfortunately not lost any weight though!

Blobby10 · 19/02/2021 07:49

@HayleyBay you won't lose weight just doing the C25k programme - I found that out that hard way a few years ago - even when running properly for 30 minutes you only do about 3 miles and burn around 100 calories a mile. That's only 900 a week (assuming you do 3 runs a week and not every other day!) and you need to burn around 3500 just to lose a pound of fat. An old friend (who was sickeningly slim and fit !) told me she didn't lose weight through running until she was running 30 miles a week!

Its really unfair!!

HayleyBay · 19/02/2021 08:53

I have been trying to cut calories too but I have no willpower at this time of year. I use c25k as an excuse - oh I've been exercising, let's have a chocolate bar for a reward!
I find it easier to lose weight in summer, so here's hoping!

Blobby10 · 19/02/2021 09:15

I did/do exactly the same! It was such a shock when I got a HRM and discovered just how little those runs burned! I'm doing Intermittent Fasting at the moment (started it on Monday) and hoping that the feeling of "oh good it's 4pm and I can eat something - lets stuff my face with the entire days calories" will abate as I get used to it Grin

Sssloou · 20/02/2021 13:56

W3R3 done this morning. Taking it slow - not getting puffed out. But my lower back hurts sitting down when I get home - nit whilst running.

JamieNotJames · 20/02/2021 21:45

Hi all! Late to the thread but hope I can join?

I'm currently on W4 of C5K, run 3 tomorrow!
I terrified myself yesterday by looking forward and checking out W4R3!! 😮 20 min run????

I've been cheating slightly as been running on the treadmill so far until I can gain a bit of confidence and get out in public!

I've been doing this along side TeamRH with 10k steps each day and I do definitely feel that my stamina has improved.
I'm hoping to add in some gentle weights from next week too.

ohhhhitsme · 21/02/2021 08:41

@Sssloou Maybe try some core workouts on your non-run days. Pilates?

Chewingle · 21/02/2021 08:56

@JamieNotJames

I am a runner and have been for years and don’t have a weight issue. When I see someone running that is overweight, I either think...

  1. Nothing at all
  2. I’m jealous, wish I was running atm!
  3. Good for them

Don’t let worry about what others will think hold you back. You’re running - it’s impressive

JamieNotJames · 21/02/2021 12:24

@Chewingle thank you 😁
I like to think that most people are as considerate as you but you can guarantee the heckles from the group of teens or jeers from the lairy bloke in a passing van!
Once I'm up to a level where I can stick my two fingers up while confidently bounding past then I'll get out there.

W4 completed this morning and it felt good! I actually could have kept going if it wasn't for the new problem of under arm chafing! Ouch!
I'm now going to have a browse online for some longer sleeved tops.

Chewingle · 21/02/2021 12:29

I’ve had heckles from white van drivers (“get some pasties down you love” “fuc@ me you’re scrawny” “oi anorexic”

But it passes in seconds

And really - who cares what some lard arse van driver thinks!

theotherfossilsister · 22/02/2021 09:20

Hello, I'm a bit fat but people tend to leave me alone on runs, runners coming the other way sometimes even smile at me, which is nice. I was scared as got ironic wolf whistles in the past, but now I'm mid thirties I don't get anything. Maybe I've yet to run into the local dickheads though.

Completed week five yesterday and felt great about it.

Then I walked up to dp's work with him this morning and realised his walking pac is on a par with my running.

Having a polyp out today, just in bus to hospital now, and not sure whether I'll be allowed to start week six tomorrow. I don't want a week off because then I'll just have to repeat five again.

Sssloou · 24/02/2021 13:42

Seem to have gotten ahead of myself .... I missed a few days due to lower back pain - found an online Pilates class on NHS website specifically for lower back pain - thought I had already done W3R3.....but I hadn’t .... so did that this morning - was easy and glad I didn’t have to do W4 today after a gap of a few days nursing a bad back.

Anyway I am back on it - ran on grass today which I hope will help.

PaddingtonB · 28/02/2021 17:05

I joined the thread near the beginning but caught Covid after a couple of weeks - only mildly but I was too exhausted for a while to try to run and DS was out of nursery too. I’m ready to go again... W1R1 tomorrow!

Sssloou · 28/02/2021 18:30

@PaddingtonB - glad you are better now and good luck with the run tomorrow. Have you done any running before? I hadn’t and can’t believe I am on W4 did W4R1 yesterday - off out at 8 tomorrow morning for W4R2.

Just looked up ParkRuns and they are back on June 5 - so you will be expert by then - good luck

PaddingtonB · 28/02/2021 19:05

Thank you @Sssloou and well done! I have done C25K before but not for quite some time and on a treadmill before... so I know it works but I’ve always found it hard to run outside. I enjoyed the couple of weeks I did back in January though so am looking forward to getting going again, if still apprehensive. I’ve managed to put on more weight since January and so need to lose two stone to get into an unhealthy rather than obese BMI Sad but I know C25K plus watching what I say works for me and largely for the motivation. Feeling impaired looking back at all those who have started and kept going over the weeks!

PaddingtonB · 28/02/2021 19:06

[Watching what I eat. If only it were so easy as watching what I say Grin

Sssloou · 28/02/2021 19:51

Yes I am in the obese zone BMI 32 - aiming for overweight as well. I don’t expect the running to loose the weight - but it is a good psychological boost to make you eat healthier.

PaddingtonB · 01/03/2021 09:22

Same here @Sssloou (BMI 32) but I did W1R1 today so I’m on my way again. Joining ParkRuns would be amazing - never would have thought I would join in with those. Hope everyone has a good week.

Sssloou · 02/03/2021 09:31

Got my days wrong - just did W4R2 today. Enjoying having a pod cast to listen to with the app cutting in as and when.

pourmeanotherglass · 02/03/2021 22:07

Just done w5r1 ish (times estimated as i dont run run with a phone).
Next run doesnt start with a walk. I might do one anyway as a warmup. Do some of you have other warmup routines?
Ive tried cutting down on sugar, but am still having the odd glass of wine / beer. Feeling fitter but waistbands not really feeling looser yet. Need to lose a bit as BMI just over 30.

Sssloou · 04/03/2021 14:37

Went out this morning for W4R3 - I barely get puffed out - wonder if I am too slow - but I am worried about my lower back and knees especially as I am overweight - I am losing weight slowly (by food) - so should have lost almost 2st in total by the time I reach week 9 - so will be happier upping the pace then. And I will be out of obese BMI and in in the upper realms of “overweight”.

I also need to commit to the Pilates / core training on the days between.

Looking ahead to end of week 5 - seems a big step up to a continuous 20 min run !!!

wheresmyhairytoe · 06/03/2021 12:13

Did W8 run 1 yesterday, so pleased I've stuck with it.

I noticed yesterday that my arse doesn't wobble anymore when I run! I remember commenting when I started back in January that I needed a bra for my arse 😂 so this is a bonus.

Sssloou · 06/03/2021 15:00

Well done for getting to week 8.

I did W5 R1 today which was three lots of 5 min runs which was fine.......worried about last run of this week which is 20 mins - feels a big jump ....

What was your hardest week @wheresmyhairytoe?

wheresmyhairytoe · 06/03/2021 18:17

I struggled on week 4, then I remember being very nervous about the 20 min run but it was OK, I surprised myself.

Trust in the system, it does work!

Sssloou · 09/03/2021 11:22

It does indeed. It’s the incremental, gentle, little and often which avoids any physical pain and keeps you psychologically engaged as it is rewarding.

I did W5R2 today - two lots of 8 mins runs with 5 min walks either side - was fine......full 20 min run on Thurs coming up....
