I'm a fat lazy slob! I'm constantly tired, grumpy, frumpy and frazzled! I'm mid forties, my hair has emigrated from my head to my multiple chins, and its time I actually started to turn my dumpy life around. Anyone want to join me? From the 1st January I'm going to start c25k using the NHS app. From 4th January I'll be giving up sugar. My aim is to get fit rather than slim, because I'm such an elephant that trying to set a weight goal will just demotivate me😂.
Everyone welcome.

W3R1 in the snow! It was hard and I covered much less ground but I didn't stop. I think that I might have to repeat this week though.

@2fatbyfar

Well done to everyone who's been getting out and about, I failed on the 1st! It was very icy and by the time it was no longer slippery underfoot the family wanted a walk...it was quite a walk so no running but good cardio exercise on steep hills (dc are like mountain goats the way they clamber up cliffs....gives me blooming palpitations watching them!). Tried to go out today but my marvellous jogging bottoms kept falling down 😬😂 running with one hand on the waist band is not ideal, and in the end I gave up! I will try again tomorrow! I have been more active though so I figure that's good! It's great hearing from you all and really helps to keep me motivated so please keep updating me! Tomorrow I start with my no sugar diet may be a challenge but needs must!
How is it going OP?
Blobby10 · 10/02/2021 10:21

Wk 5 run 2 completed this morning! Can't believe I can 'run' for 8 minutes without stopping! Probably slower than the slowest tortoise but it feels like i'm running Grin

pourmeanotherglass · 10/02/2021 17:10

Week 3 run 1 this mornig.
Very cold, but the puddles had drained and the mud frozen over since Saturday.
Used the NHS podcast, but will repeat at the weekend without it as I still hate running with a phone. Earphones fell out 3 or 4 times.
I think the gentle appoach is working, as Ive avoided injuries so far.

pourmeanotherglass · 10/02/2021 17:13

Good luck with the no sugar diet OP - Im planning to give up sugary snacks for lent, so have 5 more days to enjoy them. Last year i also gave up alcohol, but im not sure Im up to that this year.

wheresmyhairytoe · 11/02/2021 18:05

Week 5 run 3 done.

In shock that I've just run 20 minutes without stopping and didn't feel like I was going to die!

Not done that for about 3 years and I'm at least 2 stone heavier now.

Well done!! It gets even better and more enjoyable from here!
Blobby10 · 12/02/2021 08:21

@wheresmyhairytoe I too just completed wk 5 run 3 and can't believe I 'ran' for a whole 20 minutes! I've never done that - even ten years ago when I was running 5-6 miles it was across country with the dogs and I kept having to stop for gates and fences and to put the dogs on the lead! I thought I was slow but my strava feed is showing a 9,5 minute mile pace!

My big concern right now is my right achilles - I slipped on an icy patch walking back from Wednesdays run and it's been pulling since then. This morning I really felt it after about 15 minutes of running. I've stretched my calves and will do periodically throughout the day but does anyone have any other suggestions which may help?

AppleKatie · 13/02/2021 09:05

Well I flaked out for a week- combination of Shitty circumstances and minor ailment meant I was excuse ready all week.

But I’ve just got back on the horse (treadmill) and completed week 6 R3- which on my app was a 15min run and then a 5min run.

Wasn’t too bad considering the gap. So onwards and up. I’m off work this week so intend to run every other day and see if I can’t catch myself up a bit. I won’t be finished before I go back to work but I will be in the middle of week 8 which isn’t bad going.

pourmeanotherglass · 13/02/2021 14:14

Went out in the cold for a phone-free approximation to W3R2. Feels really hard work running in the cold, Im glad its warming up a bit next week.

Sssloou · 13/02/2021 15:01

I am a week behind now due to SE of vaccine and snow and ice. Off out back in the morning to do W2R2.

AppleKatie · 15/02/2021 08:05

Complete failure this morning. I just couldn’t do it at all. Didn’t complete even half.

No idea what’s wrong with me after a good run on sat. Sad

Blobby10 · 15/02/2021 08:46

AppleKatie is your period due? I usually fail at physical targets in the week before my period as I just get so terribly tired! Have you had a bad couple of nights sleep? This can also adversely affect your energy and ability to run. But these are reasons, not excuses!!

The most important thing is not to beat yourself up, accept it as a blip and get back on the horse on Wednesday. What week are you up to?

AppleKatie · 15/02/2021 09:07

Should have been week 7 r1. But it was honestly like backsliding 4-5 weeks. Really strange.

No period not due for another ten days or so.

I’ll have to try again on wed and hope for the best. I’m going for a long ish walk this afternoon hopefully that will help.

Sssloou · 15/02/2021 09:54

Certainly not a complete failure if got up out of bed, dressed, set off and did some of it on a dark rainy Monday morning and you are back home posting by 8am! You just didn’t finish it.
I was still in bed at 8am but got out again for W2R2 after a 10 day gap. I was v slow but shuffling along - in the rain - someone else was out running same route and lapped me 3 times! I am really glad to be doing this with my DH as I can’t imagine doing it alone.

ohhhhitsme · 15/02/2021 10:08

@AppleKatie some days are just really bad run days, there sometimes just is no rhyme and reason to it. Don't let it put you off, get back up and go tomorrow and you might just surprise yourself

AppleKatie · 15/02/2021 10:25

Thanks 😊 I will persevere. Just hope the next attempt doesn’t feel like this morning.

Blobby10 · 17/02/2021 12:04

Had a bad run day today - wk 6 run 2. I was overdressed for the weather, have pulled my achilles and its aching so made me grumpy and I have to do a hill for the first 5 mins of running! I still did the 2 x 10 minute runs but really didn't enjoy them. Not really looking forward to 25 minutes on Friday 😮

Chewingle · 17/02/2021 12:06

Op

Did you do this?! Last post was the day before you were going to start!

Sssloou · 17/02/2021 13:13

I did W2R3 yesterday. Now doing it the next village rather than in one further away where no one would see my fat arse and boiled beetroot head......the beetroot head is not like the first run now.....and I don’t give a shit what people think of my fat arse.

Also doing slimming world (again) lost 4lb this week - first time I have exercised and dieted at the same time.

theotherfossilsister · 17/02/2021 17:20

Hello, back running after eight days off for a bad cold and fever (Covid test negative which was surprising and kind disheartening because it means there's something else going round which makes you feel dreadful.)

Repeating week five again, this is the third time I've tried but to be fair I was getting ill the second time. Enjoyed run one today although a bit out of puff and kind of dreading run three, although two us eminently doable, I've done it before and been ok, three is the one which gets me though.

@Sssloou that's fantastic. I wouldn't worry too much about looking beetrooty. No one looks great when running except perfect annoying sleek people.

@Blobby10 should you be running with that injury? Well done on getting onto week six. I keep failing at week five run three but determined to do it this Sunday.

@applekatie I agree that even half a run is great at seven on a winter's Monday morning

Blobby10 · 17/02/2021 17:50

theotherfossilsister I’m not sure whether I should be running - it doesn’t get any worse after a run and is just ‘there’ so going to carry on for now but be sensible 😇😇

Sssloou · 18/02/2021 20:10

W3R1 done today. Very chuffed with myself. Was really painless. I am going for the v sloooooww sustainable approach. Usually I try too hard at exercise end up with burning lungs and aching body - feeling sick and never wanting to do it again. This pacing yourself is a revelation!

HayleyBay · 18/02/2021 21:13

I have done the impossible and reached the last week. Finding my lower legs get a bit cramps, had a particularly horrible run last week which I felt really ill after. I think I pushed myself too fast. I can now run for 30 minutes and not be too out of breath. Well done to everyone else who's sticking it out too.

Sssloou · 18/02/2021 21:22

Congratulations @HayleyBay that’s brilliant.

Will you keep using the app afterwards?
