I'm a fat lazy slob! I'm constantly tired, grumpy, frumpy and frazzled! I'm mid forties, my hair has emigrated from my head to my multiple chins, and its time I actually started to turn my dumpy life around. Anyone want to join me? From the 1st January I'm going to start c25k using the NHS app. From 4th January I'll be giving up sugar. My aim is to get fit rather than slim, because I'm such an elephant that trying to set a weight goal will just demotivate me😂.
Everyone welcome.

@blobby10 I don't actually do three miles yet, just as far as I get on the run, which isn't near five k yet. I also don't know exactly how far I'm doing, which I kind of like but I know it's not very far.

Week 3 run one done. I actually loved it for the first time and didn't want to stop.

AppleKatie · 18/01/2021 20:22

I’m also on a treadmill now but I used to do a smaller circuit with the aim of eventually doing the whole thing twice and the short term aim of doing 1 lap and then 1 and a bit etc...

Thanks for the luck. I’ve had a teams meeting cancelled early doors tomorrow so I’m taking that as a sign for that being my window of opportunity.

AppleKatie · 19/01/2021 10:33

W4D1 complete. It was bloody hard though- as pathetic as it sounds 4min run was hard work. I ended up cutting the pace by 0.7km on the treadmill, I did complete but also got a cramp in the third run. My app is suggesting I redo the day before moving on.

Logically I know that’s a good idea but the competitive part of me isn’t a fan of that idea. I’ll mull it over and aim to run again Thursday afternoon.

FourTurnings · 19/01/2021 18:12

*AppleKatie’ that does not sound pathetic. 4mins is flipping hard work but if you keep training - it will get easier.

May I join? I am just starting again after 2 years of injury (and now massive weight gain during Covid on top of injury!!). Just done W1R1 yesterday but have actually been running (tiny runs!) most days since Jan 1. Most I managed before re-starting C25K yesteday was 12 mins non stop - very slowly - so hoping the first few weeks will be ok.

I still remember though my first 30 min continuous run before my injury - I was on a high for DAYS after! So, I'm aiming for that again (even though it still wasn't 5k in 30 mins!)

wheresmyhairytoe · 19/01/2021 18:35

W3R2 done but my knees hurt so much! Any tips for helping? I've found my running mojo again and it's really helping my mental health so don't want to stop.

DS and I are bored of running loops round our estate. Fortunately DH is still WFH so our new tactic is that DH gives us a lift and drops us off in town, and we then walk/run back home. It's really nice to see that every week we need to be dropped off a teeny bit further away.

theotherfossilsister · 20/01/2021 10:41

Hi @Chilver twelve minutes running is great

I'm going to try to slip down to the beach between zoom meetings today. Have to go when the tide is out.

Lots of very friendly dogs there who want be to say hello and trip me up.

Chilver · 20/01/2021 10:48

Thanks Theotherfossilsister. I am back to doing shorter runs now following the Couch25k (only on WK 1 again) but knowing that I did a longer 12 min run a few weeks ago means mentally I can do this! Funny thing is though that I'm so slow that when someone else runs past me, my dog starts following them instead! Obviously my pace is too slow for him... Smile

HayleyBay · 20/01/2021 12:58

W4R1 done. Feels like a big step up. I must be getting a bit fitter though because I completed it and a few weeks back I definitely couldn't have managed that.

TottiePlantagenet · 21/01/2021 13:27

W4r2 done - couldn't do it every other day recently because of the rain :/ @theotherfossilsister my route is also a bit of an assault course some times with cyclists and dog walkers, extra self-consciousness kicks in when I spot a neighbour too Blush

@PaddingtonB hope you're feeling ok Flowers

HenslowesDiary · 21/01/2021 14:50

W4R1 completed. I feel like I am ever so slightly losing momentum and putting off running when I've planned.

Well done to everyone for keeping going.

Chilver · 21/01/2021 23:07

W1R3 done. Rest day tomorrow then starting W2!

Belladonna123 · 21/01/2021 23:15

Can I join? Aiming to start next week but....... Started this last year, loved it, got to week four and injured my knee. Was on crutches and off work for 5 weeks! I'm so scared to do this again. Like @wheresmyhairytoe is asking, does anyone have advice before I start? I'm a nurse and don't want to be off, especially just now! Really don't want to throw the towel in as I felt such a difference in my fitness even after 4 weeks.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

wheresmyhairytoe · 22/01/2021 09:45

Had to miss last night as waiting on covid test results.

AppleKatie · 22/01/2021 11:17

Welcome @Belladonna123
Hope you’re ok @wheresmyhairytoe

bella advice is the standard- go slow and then just when you think you can’t go slower go slower again. Also make sure you’ve got decent trainers if your knee is dodgy.

I’m feeling considerably more positive today! After a very tough run on Tuesday I took my own advise today and slowed down! I’m now going at roughly the same speed as a snail BUT I was able to do w4 r2 fairly comfortably and even turned the speed up a little in the second 5min run. Roll on w2 r3 on Sunday. Then it’s the dizzy heights of w5 😮

AppleKatie · 22/01/2021 11:17

W4 R3 even 😂🙈

@wheresmyhairytoe

Shoes! I know it's not really possible at the moment but by knees really hurt until I got my gait analysed and got some decent runningshous.

Blobby10 · 22/01/2021 12:22

Wk2 Run 3 completed this morning although it was a bit icy at 5.30!! Also had a headphone malfunction which meant I ended up running for an extra 2 minutes about 3/4 of the way round but hey ho😆

*wheresmyhairytoe" do you stretch after your runs? I find my quads need more stretching than my hamstrings when running but cycling its the other way around.

My left knee is playing up - I suspect its my meniscus as I had a similar problem with my right knee two years ago and had a small op on it - the consultant was totally against anyone running especially if even a little overweight due to the pressure it puts on your knees. I would willingly go to the gym or cycle over running but Covid and winter has put paid to that!

Belladonna123 · 22/01/2021 16:44

Thank you!

wheresmyhairytoe · 22/01/2021 19:00

Test came back negative so will go out tomorrow if feeling better.

I'm going to get a knee support thing and will try more stretches after running.

Wheresmycider · 23/01/2021 13:05

Did a re-run of Wk3R3 today, as earlier in the week I got an awful stitch on the last 3 minute run and had to stop.
Stitch again today but less severe and managed to keep going, albeit veeeeery slowly.
Bit nervous about moving up to Wk4. Not sure what had caused the stitch on the last 2 runs but its so off-putting.

FoolsAssassin · 23/01/2021 13:23

Well done everyone!
Been a bit the weather this week so nothing since Monday, will resume next week.

AppleKatie · 24/01/2021 21:22

W4 R3 completed today!

Going super slow with turning up the pace for part of the runs when I can cope seems to be working atm. Was so glad of the treadmill though as I was watching the snow fall outside.

Chilver · 24/01/2021 21:51

W2R1 here today. Really didn't want to go this morning as had hurt my back yesterday and my whole body hurt. But woke up feeling limber again so got ready and it started snowing just as I went out. And I loved it!!! Did a couple of extra runs too. Best run of the year so far Grin. So, next time I just need to remember that when I really don't want to do it, it can turn into a fabulous run!
