I'm a fat lazy slob! I'm constantly tired, grumpy, frumpy and frazzled! I'm mid forties, my hair has emigrated from my head to my multiple chins, and its time I actually started to turn my dumpy life around. Anyone want to join me? From the 1st January I'm going to start c25k using the NHS app. From 4th January I'll be giving up sugar. My aim is to get fit rather than slim, because I'm such an elephant that trying to set a weight goal will just demotivate me😂.
Everyone welcome.

Haha - I did a run with DS when he was about that age and I told him to run with me - which he did for the first 10 feet then shot off.

The next year there was some publicity posters done for that years’ rage - and one shot has DS cantering along, front and centre!

Oh, well done DS - but where is mummy? If you look closely you can see me waaaay in the distance lumbering behind looking very pissed off (and from memory telling ‘Come back your little bugger’).

I am thrilled to report that I finished nearly 10K today out in the lovely clear frosty air ( listened to Podrunner podcast).
I had never run before I started the C25K at the beginning of the Spring 20 lockdown - I’m 51 - and it’s worked so brilliantly for me that now I’m hooked!

FourTurnings · 10/01/2021 19:40

So my point is - it’s worth doing...😀

PaddingtonB · 11/01/2021 06:44

I’m looking forward to being able to run with my DS! I assume you’ve seen the Couch to 5K app (BBC linked) @Cupidity as that does what you describe I think?
Thank you for the encouragement @FourTurnings I’m beginning to hope that running is something I might enjoy too - not something I’ve been able to say before. I’m finding something really helpful during the pandemic anxiety of being out on my own for a bit, in the fresh air and seeing some nature so it’s worth it even just for that I think,

theotherfossilsister · 11/01/2021 11:31

Starting week #2 today. I think I'm going to have to repeat weeks, having looked at the programme as three seems like such a leap, but two weeks of week 2 might get me ready.

Nasty period and pandemic anxiety but trying not to let these derail running.

theotherfossilsister · 11/01/2021 11:32

@fourturnings that's pretty amazing. Would love to be able to do that one day. Maybe in 2022.

wheresmyhairytoe · 11/01/2021 17:24

W2R2 done. Legs are feeling it today!

Kangaroo1 · 11/01/2021 17:35

W2R1 completed today. The combo of this and AF has floored me a bit. Under a blanket trying to get some energy together to cook some dinner!

theotherfossilsister · 11/01/2021 17:47

@Kangaroo same, af and ct5k aren't easy but glad I did it.

FourTurnings · 11/01/2021 19:06

Thanks theotherfossilsister and paddingtonb 😀

PaddingtonB · 11/01/2021 20:29

I’m in the same boat with af and right now I absolutely don’t want to run tomorrow

HenslowesDiary · 12/01/2021 10:30

W2R3 for me yesterday. It went well.

Feel for those of you with AF at the moment. I am so heavy I couldn't even consider a run, I just hover near the loo for 2 days.

PaddingtonB · 12/01/2021 12:13

W1 R3 completed mid-morning. I was motivated by news reports showing people in hospital with Coronavirus this morning. I’m overweight (obese) and not at all fit. Obviously I’ve left it rather late in terms of the pandemic but I want to do everything I can to get that boy fitter.

PaddingtonB · 12/01/2021 12:14
  • that bit fitter! Haha - not boy.
PaddingtonB · 12/01/2021 12:23

And sorry it was W2 R3

Blobby10 · 12/01/2021 12:47

I started C25K today! Used to run quite a bit, usually on canal towpaths and fields but then moved house and didn't like running on tarmac pavements. Took up cycling and gym but now the gym is shut and its too icy/dark/cold for cycling so I'm trying running again. Trouble is this time I'm 2 stones heavier, 10 years older and really not sure if I can do it!

The first 'run' this morning was Ok (apart from not being able to get spotify to work on my headphones Sad) and my supposedly ankle length running leggings only coming down to mid calf .

HenslowesDiary · 12/01/2021 14:29

Have just seen that my resting heart rate is starting to gradually come down, according to fitbit.

That's good isn't it?

idsisatwat · 12/01/2021 16:48

W1r3 done today at lunchtime. I did r2 last tuesday , which is a bit rubbish. So I intend to do w1 again, but instead of a week's gap between runs, I'm aiming for a day.
@FourTurnings that's really inspiring! I'm hoping to actually enjoy running one dayGrin

Gliblet · 12/01/2021 18:40

W1R2 repeated today - felt better than the first time and my calf muscles are definitely coping better.

Think we need new scales though - according to the set in our bathroom I've lost 6kg in a little under a week, which is quite blatantly bollocks Grin

allthesharks · 12/01/2021 19:27

After a bloody awful week I did W1R3 today although it's been over a week since I did W1R2. AF started today so I'm proud of myself for still doing it even though I've got awful cramps. My knees and legs ache more than they have done in previous runs but I still managed to keep going. I've congratulated myself for doing it by having some leftover Christmas cake which isn't really the point but it was worth it.

Gliblet · 12/01/2021 19:28

@allthesharks I tend to think I probably would have eaten the cake anyway, so doing the run as well as eating the cake is definitely an improvement!

Blobby10 · 13/01/2021 10:04

I completed W1R2 this morning - still rather disappointed that my HRM showed I burned under 200 calories but then I'm only -running- going faster than a walk for 8 minutes in total so guess it can't be far out! In the old days when I ran for 5 miles I still only burned 100 cals a mile. Walking only burns 60-70 for me and I really stride out. Its so depressing that you get so little 'reward' for exercise Grin

HenslowesDiary · 13/01/2021 12:50

W3R1 completed in the rain.

FoolsAssassin · 13/01/2021 12:59

W3R3 done

GoodbyePorpoiseSpit · 13/01/2021 13:10

Hi you guys - this popped up in active conversations and I wanted to say that I started C25k three years ago. It changed my life. I started at zero fines and baby weight plus no confidence and an internalised belief that sport ‘wasn’t me’. So now: I regularly and happily run and took up yoga as well. I do 10k once a week and 5k 3x per week. I even ran a half marathon this year. Honestly if someone had told me that I would do that three years ago I would never have thought it possible.
The biggest win hasn’t been weight loss although I am slimmer. It’s the mental health benefits - running is like Prozac for me and when I don’t do it I feel low. Game changer so WELL DONE and keep going!
