Can we make a Les Mills on demand thread?

I'm just wondering if others are using Les Mills on demand and if we could maybe check in with each other to discuss what we are doing and what our goals are etc?

I am trying to loose 1 stone and doing 5:2 but i eat too much on my non-fasting days so I don't really loose any weight, so I'm adding exercise in the hope of shifting some weight Smile

So far I have done bodycombat 3 times this week for about half an hour each and some weights and flexibility training, but I think from next week I will be adding in bodypump

Is anyone else using this? I am really enjoying it so far Smile

@TabbyStar, aww, don't cry...I am very uncoordinated but I think I am getting slightly better by doing LM on my own with curtains drawn Smile....but often the co-ordination is beyond me in combat or step.....I just adapt and do something I can do of similar intensity, or try their moves but slower.....gradually it is getting easier and I am mor often doing what they are!

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/12/2020 11:19

I just did BP United.

Did anyone identify the British locations? York?

TabbyStar · 01/12/2020 11:42

Thanks MsMartini - I don't normally cry over exercise! I can't quite decide whether I just need to do step more to get a better workout or whether to give it up for more energetic options! I can't do lunges quickly as I have a bit of pain in my toes, which was causing me to get a bit behind, I can adapt okay in BodyAttack but haven't quite worked out how to for step!

MsMartini · 01/12/2020 11:53

Good! Smile. I like the variety so even though I find step hard (I've just bought a step so very much a beginner), I will still do it sometimes and just do easier moves or jacks or something when it all gets too much! I've got better since the first class, when I was almost never doing what they did, and I always I end up dripping with sweat and smiling.

kittykarate · 01/12/2020 17:37

I think MsMartini has a cunning plan doing jacks or similar to 'fill' while they're doing some nutty pirouette and hop thing on the step. I think some of the filming techniques don't help - I mean it's hard to work out where they are on the step sometimes (front/back which foot is off etc) due to perspective and it's worse when they do the swirly crowd shots. I hope you don't feel too down with it TabbyStar.

Anyway, I had a minor positive the other day doing Body Combat. I happened to look to one side during some jabs and spotted in the mirror that I have a bicep shadow when I'm working. Admittedly, only visible in certain lights, and possibly could do with some contouring/airbrushing to bring it out to the naked eye. I kind of wish I'd been more oranized on the tape measure thing.

I did a hybrid class tonight with no tears at all! I did swear a bit though when they zoomed in on upper bodies just as a new movement started in one of the BodyCombat tracks and I had no idea what their legs were doing. The variety is good, I'd not noticed the hybrids before, as I do sometimes lose interest doing a whole class of one thing.

MsMartini · 01/12/2020 19:39

Yay to no tears!

I agree about it being hard to see what they are doing with their steps sometimes. And in combat those jumping kicks things. I'm starting to get the hang of them but sometimes I just alternate a kick and then a jump to stay in time.

You should have seen my one and only attempt at barre. I was fine doing calf raises and then suddenly they started shouting at me in French while they knitted their legs together Smile

TabbyStar · 01/12/2020 20:23

Ha ha, I've not attempted barre yet. Yeah the jumping kicks were a bit beyond me, I figured any old kicks would probably do!

@oneglassandpuzzled One of the Uk locations is Stanborough Lakes in Welwyn Garden City. The instructor is Denice Burr and she has featured in a couple of the Bodypump filmings. She's classed as a master trainer and does the workshops for instructors to learn each new release.

She teaches at the David Lloyd that I'm a member of, though I only make one of her classes if I'm off work as they are in the morning on a week day. She's a brilliant instructor and really makes you think about your form throughout and always manages to give you that little push to achieve more than you think you can.

oneglassandpuzzled · 01/12/2020 21:58

Oh thank you! Did she have the Union Jack or am I muddling her up with someone else?

nbee84 · 01/12/2020 22:23

No Union Jack. Here's a screenshot.

Oh I remember her! Thank you 🙂

TawnyPippit · 01/12/2020 22:32

I’m very excited as I’m getting a Les Mill weights bundle for Christmas. I am literally the queen of All Gear No Idea. No excuse not to do pump in the New Year Smile

nbee84 · 01/12/2020 22:56

@TawnyPippit Excellent Christmas present! Have you done any Les Mills before?

TawnyPippit · 01/12/2020 23:52

Hi @nbee84 - yes, I did Bodypump at the gym so have been doing it on LMOD during lockdown but using hand weights (hence the Xmas present). DH got a spin bike just before lockdown and we discovered Trip, which is great. I hate the spin bike and the RPM classes with a passion but hop on the bike like a sprightly bunny for a Trip session, dunno why. Love Bodybalance. Am frankly a bit scared by anything else like Grit and Combat and Attack! They all sound so shouty! I have one knackered knee which I am supposed to protect and I expect my knee surgeon would weep blood if he thought I were doing those.

In my mind I am a perky 25 year old NZer with iron abs and a jaunty tattoo. In reality I’m a rounded mid 50sLondoner doing Les Mills in my shed underneath the Heathrow flight path. Ah well!

TabbyStar · 02/12/2020 07:18

I'm 51 and I find BodyAttack fine, it's a bit like old fashioned aerobics! My gym didn't do it, so I only started it at home, to begin with I mostly did the low impact stuff as I had an old back injury, but soon progressed into doing it high impact. There are occasional things that I'm too slow to keep up with, but not many. It's pretty easy to follow what they're doing too (unlike Sh'bam!)

kittykarate · 02/12/2020 10:58

I love attack and combat as the choreo is less insane than Sh'bam. One thing I would say is that you need to wait when they demo a new combo for the lower impact version as they don't usually highlight it until the 2nd rep or later (probably to encourage people to give it a go!)

Pebbledashery · 02/12/2020 11:06

Bodycombat 67!!! loved EVERY single track! amazing way to start the day :)

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 02/12/2020 11:10

I've been doing Body Attack. I love it. I feel like I'm clubbing! But with less make-up and no chance of copping off with anyone...

nbee84 · 02/12/2020 13:53

@TawnyPippit - your description of yourself made me Grin Similar to me! 51 year old with a dodgy knee. I injured it at the beginning of September and though it is improving I am waiting for an MRI to find out what I've actually done. Physio has told me no running, no high impact or I could put myself back to square one. tbh as soon as I try my knee is uncomfortable. I did bodyattack united after reading this mornings posts but I had to make too many adaptions and felt like I didn't get a proper cardio workout.
I like The Trip over the other spin workouts too - current favourite is 06.

oneglassandpuzzled · 03/12/2020 17:38

I'm off to do Combat in the 'actual' gym for the first time since early March. I've been doing it at home on a wooden floor in bare feet so wearing trainers will feel strange.

MsMartini · 04/12/2020 08:58

@TawnyPippit and @nbee84, snap Grin. I am 54 and in my head a ninja warrior. In reality......I do love exercising at home from that point of view!

kittykarate · 04/12/2020 18:03

I do think I'd never dare do CXWorx in a gym... I trump like an elephant sometimes doing situps.

TabbyStar · 04/12/2020 18:23

Grin I'd never do it because I would probably just lie on the floor weeping. Abs are not my strong point.

sociallydistained · 11/12/2020 22:08

Still love LMOD! Really liked the United BC and Attack releases. I'm doing Pump tomorrow after doing it for the first time in a while last Saturday and being in utter pain.

I've started committing to early gym sessions again and this morning I used the bike to do a short session of Sprint and The Trip. Loved them, especially The Trip! And want to do a full length one next time!
