Can we make a Les Mills on demand thread?

Upsidedownrightnow · 05/06/2020 14:54

I'm just wondering if others are using Les Mills on demand and if we could maybe check in with each other to discuss what we are doing and what our goals are etc?

I am trying to loose 1 stone and doing 5:2 but i eat too much on my non-fasting days so I don't really loose any weight, so I'm adding exercise in the hope of shifting some weight Smile

So far I have done bodycombat 3 times this week for about half an hour each and some weights and flexibility training, but I think from next week I will be adding in bodypump

Is anyone else using this? I am really enjoying it so far Smile

I love some of the older combats, 64 and 66 are fab too. I think that’s why I’m currently obsessed with 83, it has an old school vibe about it. I love the track 7 and 8.

I’ve been feeling really tight, especially in my hips, but can’t face a full balance without an instructor to keep me motivated. It’s a bit like pump - I know it’s good for me but I like caaaaaardio. I’ve been doing deep stretch 1 every night for a couple of weeks before bed and it’s been good. But I’m bored of it now. Any recommendations?

gingerscot · 13/08/2020 10:21

Oh @sociallydistained you’ve made me jealous. I haven’t done attack since gyms closed. I don’t have enough room in my “kitchen gym” to run around and my iPad battery is goosed and only works if it’s plugged in so I can’t get out to the garden. I’m waiting for the new iPads to be released in sept/Oct but hopefully gyms will be open by then, Attack is great with a fab instructor.

jerometheturnipking · 13/08/2020 11:40

I haven't done Attack since lockdown either - not enough space! I went for a run after school drop off and then the new Balance - it went in very quickly and I like the presenting team with KG, which was good because I was a bit like "I really should do Balance to stretch off properly now I have the peace to do it". For some reason I'm fine with doing Combat/Pump at home when the kids are distracted by telly/games consoles but I really like having peace to do Balance.

Floofsquidge · 13/08/2020 20:12

I'm coming to the end of game changer, I have 4 workouts left! At end of week 3 I'd lost 2 inches around my waist so definitely doing something.
I think I'm going to do it all again, to see those earlier ones are easier, but maybe swap in some of the newer releases. But, I'd really like to give sh'bam a go and slot that in there somewhere so any release recommendations for an uncoordinated sh'bam newbie?

gingerscot · 14/08/2020 20:05

Those are great results @Floofsquidge well done!!

I’m a recent lockdown convert to sh’bam. I found that I had to do the same release 4 or 5 times before I really felt I was working hard, but now I’ve done 5 or 6 like that and it’s getting easier to pick the others up. I really like 29 and 30. I think 29 is probably a bit easier to pick up (except the Vogue track - just wave your arms around 😆) I started doing 37 but found it not so challenging cardio wise.

I did my first ever Grit cardio today - did the one with Nina. It was good, I was a red, sweaty mess by the end. I used to do Insanity a couple of years ago when they had it at my gym when I lived in Newcastle and it’s very similar. I think I’ll try to slot it in a few times a week.

I STILL need to get motivated to do a balance though!!! I know what you mean about having the peace to do it, you really need to able to focus on breath and technique and it’s not the same if you’ve got to have half an ear making sure the kids aren’t killing themselves or each other...

jerometheturnipking · 14/08/2020 21:35

That’s really impressive floofsquidge well done!

I did the full length pump113 today. I think I’ll feel it tomorrow! Having the weekend off and back on it on Monday 😊

gingerscot · 17/08/2020 19:58

I’m shattered today. I was feeling ace yesterday so think I overdid it - I started with pump and sh’bam. Then later fancied a combat and finished with cx. Plus an 8 mile hike with the dog. When I write it out no wonder my hips are telling me “no” today. I’ve done a sh’bam and dog walk, I wanted to do grit cardio as well but think I’ll just do a deep stretch later and take my own advice for a change - to listen to my body and rest!

jerometheturnipking · 18/08/2020 10:38

Wow no wonder gingerscot! I had a bit of a post-weekend go big or go home yesterday and ran 5k followed up by Combat 82. I’ve done Combat 83 this morning and will probably walk to the shops on my lunch break.

gingerscot · 19/08/2020 10:00

The rest did me good, I was able to put up some weights for pump yesterday although I’m feeling that today. Am I the only one who quite likes the ache? I mean, I don’t love the pain but I love that it means change is happening...

Today I think it’s combat. I love 83 but don’t want to sicken myself so I think I’ll do 77 but maybe tag tracks 7 and 8 from 83 in to it. Then I’m going out for dinner.

What’s everyone else up to?

jerometheturnipking · 19/08/2020 11:51

I'm undecided at the moment. I'm thinking about going for a good walk today, seeing as it's dry and the weather is meant to turn at the weekend, and possibly doing Pump 113 once I'm home from that. I had a friend over for coffee this morning when I'd have normally been doing my workout so I feel a bit out of sorts with the timing of my day. There's still loads of time before the kids are home to fit in exercise and the other things I need to get done today, it just feels weird starting that at almost 12 (even though I got some work done earlier on!).

scullie · 19/08/2020 13:12

I've just started the Fast Burner programme, 30 mins a day for 6 weeks. Seems doable! I'm doubling up the workouts some days to make an hour and adding an hours pump class the following day instead.

I just did a 30 mins combat followed by a 30 mins CX worx class and I felt pretty good. Love the way you can design your own workout programme pulling in different classes and tracks to suit however you feel. I may never go back to a gym again!

Floofsquidge · 19/08/2020 14:32

Completed game changer on Monday Smile
Slightly disheartened that I don't see any inch difference from end of week 4 when I checked my waist measurement the day after completion, but I get bloated so easily. Did a short 30 min sh'bam yesterday evening and loved it.
Think I'm going to redo game changer but maybe swap in some newer releases, and some sh'bam. I'm also tempted to do less of the grit sessions as I find this too high impact even with adaptations and I'm probably not getting out of it what I should be for what's only a 30 min exercise and would rather do an hour long cardio instead. Interested in your thoughts, I still have a lot of baby weight to lose to be happy with my size.

sociallydistained · 20/08/2020 10:27

I went to my friends gym yesterday and did virtual RPM! I've always wanted to do it on demand but don't have a bike.

Wow am I in pain today! Arse pain!!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 21/08/2020 16:27

I did 111 upper body today and it had two new sections that I hadn't done before, that I was pleasantly suprised to find I enjoyed. Even did the tricep track!

gingerscot · 21/08/2020 16:58

Congrats on finishing @Floofsquidge, must be a great feeling! You’ve achieved loads and your fitness will have improved even if your measurements don’t show it. Your heart will be thanking you - that’s my main goal, we have a horrible family history of heart and blood pressure issues so I decided in my early 20s (after ANOTHER family heart attack, my uncle, in his 50s) it wasn’t going to be me if I could help it.

Grit is hard, and it does shift the ponds but only if you can manage it properly at full pelt. I find it more functional exercise whereas combat and sh’bam are so much more fun and I really enjoy them. But to shift the pounds, you need your heart rate in the red zone really and Grit cardio does that. If the impact is too much and you can’t stay in the red zone I’d say you’re better sticking to the traditional hour long classes - step always has me sweating buckets too and is very underrated I think. Building muscle will also help, so pump all the way. For me, it’s 20% exercise and 80% diet though. I’ve had good results with the 2 days 500 calorie per week if I need a boost. I have to be careful not to binge on the other 5 days though! And I don’t keep it up too long.

@scullie if you’re mainly doing 60 mins classes anyway, why not switch to game changer?

@jerometheturnipking your post made me laugh, I get so annoyed if my boss ignores my diary and schedules something around 1pm - that’s my workout time! I mean I’m really flexible from a work point of view, I can change to an hour before or after, but that’s not the point. I have a routine!! 😆

@sociallydistained ah the saddle pain. Not looking forward to that when we get back to the gym. Although I haven’t decided whether to go back yet. Our gym has sent an email
today saying they open 31 Aug in line with Scottish gvt rules.

Today is combat and I did a the MMA 2mix. Wasn’t too impressed, will go back to 83 tomorrow morning before I go out for a lovely afternoon tea. Will be walking doggo later for a long one, he’s been snoozing it up all day so he needs to be moving!

jerometheturnipking · 21/08/2020 17:32

Ooh that’s lucky about your gym reopening on the 31st! I go to our local authority one and the trust that deals with the leisure centres is doing a gradual reopening from the 14th Sept, but we don’t know what the class timetable will look like yet because they’re having to reduce it to allow for cleaning up between classes. Our closest centre doesn’t do any of the classes I like, but I use the gym at that one and it’s not reopening until freaking October 😵

I did combat 83 today, but the 40 minute one because I was shorter on time. It’s amazing the difference that 10 minutes makes 😂

scullie · 21/08/2020 21:09

@gingerscot I'm going to work up to it! The high cardio of grit and and doing an hour of combat or attack scare me at the moment. I'm pretty strong but not that fit but hoping I'll get there. Loving a half hour intense cardio then a balance or Cx worx.
Maybe it's just the confidence to try I need Grin

gingerscot · 24/08/2020 16:16

They gym has published a “temp” timetable for now and I’m not too impressed. Lots of their own circuit type classes, only one combat, one pump and one 50/50 (usually attack and combat) per week. And the class size cut in half from 50 to 25, so that’ll be a nightmare to get booked. Usually there are 3-4 Les Mills classes per day and they’re generally full. Also the Scottish government hasn’t actually published their guidelines yet, so we don’t know if 25 will be ok or whether masks will be required. Might be working and exercising from home for a while yet!

@scullie confidence is definitely key. And I sometimes think the 30-45min classes can be harder, definitely in the actual gym, as our instructors miss out the “recovery” style tracks and keep in all the intense ones. I remember being pleasantly surprised at the hour long attack with conditioning in the middle for a quick breather. Mind you, those cardio/ strength mixes you’re doing are good too. I’ve been doing the 15min deep stretch balance every night and the progress has been really good. I’m not quite at mermaid yet but far closer than I ever thought I’d be!

Today was combat 66, I REALLY love that one and I’m going out for dinner so it’ll be a shorter walk with dog later. He’s got a poorly paw anyway, so that suits us both. (He is playing on it too, for extra treats...!)

jerometheturnipking · 24/08/2020 16:40

Yeah I think I’m going to have to stick to the home classes for a while yet, although will hopefully be able to go to the actual gym to lift the heavy things in lieu of keeping pump in there as often at home.

I did combat 83 again today, I really like track 5 with the sprawls. It feels a bit like Attack. I really need to fit a pump in somewhere this week (but I love the cardio calorie burn too much 😬😳)

Floofsquidge · 24/08/2020 17:09

My gym is only doing pump, balance, and cxworx. balance & pump are both shortened to 45 mins with reduced capacity.

No attack, combat or barre. They never did sh'bam as they do Zumba, but that's not on either, ditto grit as they do their own HIIT).

It's not instructor availability as the same lady used to do combat, pump and balance in a row Saturday mornings, mad but awesome woman! And she's still running her pump and balance classes.

gingerscot · 25/08/2020 10:46

I feel you on the cardio burn, I’m a total cardio junkie. I do pump and balance/yoga because I know they’re good for me and love the results but my heart belongs to cardio. I LOVE combat 83, it’s the best release for ages. Saying that I did 66 yesterday and I feel it across my back which is rare for me.

I think I’ll wait the gym out a bit. We’ve a couple of fab instructors too - in fact if you follow les Mills on insta, one of them was featured on there filming pump for Les Mills United next to the kelpies (huge horse head type metal structures) - but I want to see how it all plays out.

I’m going to visit family for a week from Thursday, I’ve chucked in a gym kit, my iPad, resistance bands and yoga mat. Hoping to persuade someone to join me 😆

MsMartini · 26/08/2020 09:24

I'm still loving LMOD. I do strength training in parks and an outdoors core class once a week, and run a bit. So I use LMOD to top up, on bad weather days, or to cheer me up.

There is so much variety, I can't see me going back to a gym to do classes any time soon.

I've done some of the hybrid ones now - really good - has anyone else been trying them?

kittykarate · 26/08/2020 09:42

I've just started LMOD, late to the party as I was doing zoom fitness classes with an ice-skating coach through most of lockdown. Now she's back on the ice, I was looking for something to go in the 'morning commute' slot.

I'm mostly liking it so far, but I do get bugged by the camera work, as they seem to always do the swoopy distant shots of the crowd just as the instructor is adding in new move.

sociallydistained · 26/08/2020 18:35

@kittykarate That is always hard when you start and annoying with the camera swoops but you won't even need to look soon enough takes me 2-3 times per release lol.

Had a good week so far with LMOD. Monday I did Grit Cardio, Pump upper body and some of Erin's cardio workout (in the new trainer series). Tuesday was Attack #99 really like that one I don't think I'd done the full release before.
Today I did Pump 113 (this is my second time) and some more of Erin's workout for some cardio! - like others have mentioned I like the cardio burn so I always put Pump on the back burner but love how it makes me feel. Today I had a day off so did it as knew I could do some cardio elsewhere as have more time!

I wanted to do RPM at the gym again but couldn't manage to book on. I sometimes think about getting a bike for home as RPM and the Trip seem so appealing! I don't have the space and it's a lot of money but I am very tempted regardless!

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 27/08/2020 08:10

@sociallydistained - I got a bike as part of my rehab post surgery last year and I love it. I started off being able to do about 2km a time, now I do minimum 33km a time and then when I got LMOD I was in my element! Totally worth it. It wasn't crazy expensive, about £200 I think.
