Can we make a Les Mills on demand thread?

Upsidedownrightnow · 05/06/2020 14:54

I'm just wondering if others are using Les Mills on demand and if we could maybe check in with each other to discuss what we are doing and what our goals are etc?

I am trying to loose 1 stone and doing 5:2 but i eat too much on my non-fasting days so I don't really loose any weight, so I'm adding exercise in the hope of shifting some weight Smile

So far I have done bodycombat 3 times this week for about half an hour each and some weights and flexibility training, but I think from next week I will be adding in bodypump

Is anyone else using this? I am really enjoying it so far Smile

Mine at 2kg Blush and that's fine for the moment, I have some arm weights to add, then I'll look at getting some 5kgs.

A bar seems like a £ and space commitment!

Lottapianos · 24/06/2020 11:27

Upside, I use 5kg for most things - it's a challenge but doesn't feel like too much. I use 2kg for shoulders and they feel a bit light, I think 3kg would be better

Upsidedownrightnow · 24/06/2020 11:35

For some of the harder lunge ones I acruy used my 1.5kg weights as I don't like alot if the over head movements as I have bad shoulders.

Also if your using dumbells instead of a bar for the squats bits where the bar is on your shoulders do you hold your weights up where the bar should be? I try to but again with my bad shoulders sometimes it hurts so I just hold the weights I front of me and have a 90 degree angle in my arm so there is still tension, Im thinking this is fine Confused

I do lie on the floor now but thought if I had a step I would have a better range of movement

Oh good idea Nathan I have weights which are ankle / wrist weights so I could add this in the meantime

I think i would gradually need to build upto 5kg Smile

NathanNathan · 24/06/2020 11:48

That's my plan, to keep going with 2kg, then add my wrist weights to be 3kg, then go to 5kg at some point if needed.

In terms of where I hold the weights, in the few seasons I've done there is a person using the plates instead of bar on screen, so I do what they are doing, and that's usually holding them in front.

Lottapianos · 24/06/2020 12:11

'I just hold the weights I front of me and have a 90 degree angle in my arm so there is still tension, Im thinking this is fine confused'

I think that's totally fine so long as it's not hurting you or throwing you off balance. You could even hold just one dumbbell with both hands at chest height and do a goblet squat

MozzchopsThirty · 24/06/2020 14:24

@NathanNathan I don't know why I don't like it, it doesn't feel like the exercises are easy to grasp and a lot of the time I feel I'm doing it wrong and targeting the wrong muscles!
However my abs are killing today!

I think I'll attempt a 45 min combat tonight and barre tomorrow

Too hot to run

What sort of calorie burn do you get from Sh'bam???

nbee84 · 24/06/2020 14:38

Upsidedown - when you chest press/fly/A press your elbows shouldn't go any lower than the bench. If you're on the floor they can't so it actually helps you to get the correct range of motion. I have a bench now but when I didn't I would just make sure my elbows only lightly brushed the floor as if they rest on the floor you're taking the load out of your muscles.

Hi all. I’ve been a Les Mills addict for over 15 years and signed up to LMOD during lockdown. I’ve always been a combat/pump/attack/cx/balance girl, and ashamed to say I’d always looked my nose down at sh’bam.

However I had to rest combat (my very fave, Rach is a goddess!) due to a shoulder injury so I gave sh’bam a go and I LOVE it. I’ve found I need to do the same release a few times to get the moves, the. I can burn just as many calories as combat which shocked me. I am “un-co” but it’s so much fun that I’ve given up caring and dance like no one is watching.

Combat will always be my first love but I’m enjoying exercising by myself more that I thought I would. I bought the pump set from mirafit and it does the job well. Might need some extra weights soon though.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 24/06/2020 17:29

I tried some of the Sh'bam tutorials and felt like a right div 😂

Having a rest tonight as I think even BP in the kitchen will be too hot.

Starting to slip back into my habit of Attack Pump Combat repeat so throwing in a good old Body Step tomorrow.

I found a couple of old BC releases on YouTube. Quite weird remembering 34 being released!

Upsidedownrightnow · 25/06/2020 21:43

@nbee84 - I didn't know that, thank you for the advice Smile

I'm looking forward to bodypump tomorrow morning as today was a rest day so I just went for a walk Smile

'I'm looking forward to bodypump tomorrow morning as today was a rest day so I just went for a walk '

Ditto Grin actually really looking forward to a bit of BP tomorrow. I love a walk but it's just not the same as lifting

WelcomeToTheMountaintop · 26/06/2020 21:55

Ah you lovely people.

I had started to lose my way a bit this week. Hadn’t done anything.

Re reading inspired me. And I have just done a 30 min pump.

Feels so much better.

Lottapianos · 26/06/2020 22:07

Yay Welcome! Well done for getting stuck in. You always feel so brilliant afterwards Smile

Fairybatman · 26/06/2020 22:26

So happy to have found this thread. Love LM classes and loving LMOD mostly RPM -76 is my all time favourite.
Just got some weights so will be trying pump tomorrow.

scullie · 26/06/2020 23:13

Have been doing LMOD for most of lockdown using dumbbells 2.5 and 5kgs. But body weight squat track and lunge as holding the dumbbell at shoulder height tires my arms too much for the biceps, triceps and shoulder tracks! I'm doing bp 99 at the moment and loving that. But....big news I've managed to source a barbell today at Argos. Pick up on Tuesday. I'm ridiculously excited about it...

Haven't really got the space for combat and where I have got the space I've got wooden floors which creak when I jump on them and scare the dog! But would love to do combat again, guess I'll have to wait for the gym to open again.

Great to find this thread!!

jerometheturnipking · 27/06/2020 08:43

Body pump for me too this morning. I think it’ll be release 111 but undecided between doing 55 and 45. I really love the tricep track to Panic at the Disco 😂 the shoulder track is a killer though.

Upsidedownrightnow · 27/06/2020 09:21

@WelcomeToTheMountaintop - if I don't want to workout I make a deal with myself just to try it and if I do a few mins and really don't want to do it then I can stop. I mostly find I really enjoy the workout and end up wanting to do a longer session Smile I think the hardest part is getting started!

@scullie oh exciting Smile let us know how you get on with your bar! I swe a set in argos for about £40 and am considering getting it but not sure if it's necessary!

@jerome I would say 55 mins 😊

How often are you all doing body pump? I have only been doing les mills a short while, this week I have done 2 body pump and one body combat, I prefer body pump and thinking I might up it to 3 per week. I know some people do it 5/6 days per week but I always think its better to have rest days in between? But this week my legs arnt completely dead so I thibk it means my body is getting used to it so I could maybe do a few days in a row?

nbee84 · 27/06/2020 11:21

I did combat 73 this morning - great fun 😀 then followed it with cx 14.

I sometimes do pump 2 days in a row but try not to do 3. I really don't have a particular routine, I just do what I feel like on the day. This week I've done a run, some outdoor bike rides (finally got some new tyres!) step and 1 pump.

jerometheturnipking · 27/06/2020 17:21

I went for the 55, didn't regret it Smile

I don't really have a particular routine either, it depends on what I'm in the mood for, what the rest of my day is looking like (e.g. I might do a 30-45 minute Pump and go for a run later in the day, or if i'm having a rest day do a 55 minute Balance). Today I've not really been out but did the longer Pump class because we're in a flat and my downstairs neighbour was in. If he was out I'd have done Combat, which I don't do if I know he's in because I don't want him cursing my existence for that hour Grin. I prefer doing CXworx after Combat compared to Pump.

WelcomeToTheMountaintop · 27/06/2020 17:32

upsidedown

That’s very true. I always think the hardest bit of, say training for a marathon is putting your shoes on (ie actually comitting to doing SOMETHING)

Im currently procrastinating again...

Can’t go out for a run because the pollen count is stratospheric I fancy doing a Trip, but it’s 10 minutes of faffing setting up the bike and tv....

GoldenOmber · 27/06/2020 17:47

Really nice to find this thread! I used to do BodyPump at the gym years ago but haven’t gone near a weight since until a few weeks ago.

I got the subscription for BodyPump - which I’m still enjoying - but really like being able to try different classes too. I’ve given Sh’bam a shot and BodyCombat, and just tried first cxworx today. Wow that was HARD. I am hoping it gets easier? My core strength must be really pitiful, I’m always struggling with the core track in BodyPump too.

Lottapianos · 27/06/2020 18:33

I do 3 strength sessions per week - usually 2 Body Pump and one of something else I find on YouTube. Always leave a day between Body Pump sessions

WelcomeToTheMountaintop · 27/06/2020 21:34

Done it!

This Thread made me feel slightly more accountable

So I did my favourite Trip.

Thanks

scullie · 28/06/2020 22:42

@Upsidedownrightnow I got the barbell and weights today! Argos got them in early (marvellous!) and I had a session with them this afternoon. They have transformed my workout, it's now just as it would be in the gym. Clean and press much easier and not messing about with dumbbells that weren't the right weight for the exercise I was doing.

Very happy with them and would recommend as I think I'll actually carry on LMOD when the gyms reopen. I can't imagine with social distancing, spaces in classes will be easy to come by.

Upsidedownrightnow · 28/06/2020 23:25

@scullie - how exciting :) i really want some more weights, even heavier dumbells would be fine. Any chance you could give a link to the set you got? Or a product code?

I just had a look for some and the one that was only £39.99 is all sold out

@WelcomeToTheMountaintop - did you feel good after the workout? I always find i feel best after doing workout that i didn't feel like doing!

@Lottapianos - i think aa days rest in between will be best for me too. I did 45mins of body pump today and my muscles feel tired tonight.

Also who is your favourite - I really like Marlon Smile I just love his vibe and find him fun, not sure what the other guys name is - he is tall and often does core workouts - i find him pretty boring. I think we need more of Marlon Grin
