@Jon its great when you get a good song you can really get into.
I also think to myself on average a song is 3 and a half minutes so depending on pace every couple of songs is a new km
That helps me get through
And then the last 0.2 of a km I count down from 20 reallllly slowly. And let the watch beat me.
Weird.
But that last few seconds can be hard!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 05/06/2020 12:55

I do exactly the same things Grin. Weird, aren’t we?!

PrincessWatermelon · 05/06/2020 13:28

There's no way that I could hold a conversation through my jog/run! Maybe I'm going too fast. Actually today's I might have been able to. But definitely in the first couple of weeks I was too out of puff to do it! @hellolilacs I wanted to die the first run! It has certainly got easier. Keep at it.

TryingToBeBold · 05/06/2020 14:01

That's so weird! Ha I literally see a marker (like.. a bush) and think 1. Next marker.. a daisy patch.. 2. Next marker a dip in the path.. 3

Anything to get through that last bit Grin

TryingToBeBold · 05/06/2020 14:02

@PrincessWatermelon

One of the pointers very early on is that it is a light jog. Honestly I'm very slow but steady. My pace per km can almost be identical times bar a few seconds .

FallenSkies · 05/06/2020 14:02

Well, I had a bit of a rest and then went out a little later than usual. Turns out sleep deprived days are good for me as I managed 5k in 31.5 minutes. Feeling really chuffed that I managed my longest run yet, and with my fastest pace yet too Grin

Sunshineandflipflops · 05/06/2020 14:08

That's an awesome time @FallenSkies - well done!

I mostly listen to podcasts while running as they help me to switch off from what i'm doing and I'm not trying to keep to the pace of a song (which is usually too fast for me!)

TryingToBeBold · 05/06/2020 14:50

@FallenSkies fantastic time! Well done!

bigcatlittlecatcardboardbox · 05/06/2020 15:19

I just wanted to de-lurk to say thank you to you lot.

I've been following you all and jogging along to c25k with you since lockdown started. I should have graduated three weeks ago but I had a horrible w9r1 so then just went back to doing 20 minutes runs to 'sort my pacing out' which was utter rubbish, I just didn't want to do more than 20 minutes.

Anyway I re-read both threads this morning, hopped out of bed and went and smashed out 30 minutes, 4.75km. All because you lot inspired me to! So thank you.

TryingToBeBold · 05/06/2020 15:30

Ahhh @bigcatlittlecatcardboardbox well done!! Give yourself a well deserved rest day (or two! Both are perfectly acceptable), and that final push for 5k

What was so bad about your week 9 run?

Any lurkers feel free to join! I remember the early weeks thinking HOW?! But did my second 5k today. And I'm excited for you all too!

NoTeaForMe · 05/06/2020 15:52

I finished week 7 today. That’s 4 25min runs under my belt now! Nowhere near 5k in 30mins, I’d be happy with under 40 to be honest.

To all of those at the beginning, honestly I am the least fit person anyone can think of. I’m about 1.5stone overweight but have always been terribly unfit. My aerobic fitness is so much better I’m not so out of breath and don’t feel like I’m going to die anymore. Trust me that first week I thought there was no way I could ever run for more than a minute, and actually nearly didn’t even manage that a few times! This programme is amazing and I will rave about it to everyone. If it can get me to run 25 mins (and hopefully 30 in a couple of weeks) then it can do the same for everyone. Promise!

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 05/06/2020 16:16

@TryingToBeBold well done on another 5k.

@ChanklyBore interesting that you're considering starting the course again, I hadn't considered that but could Be good for increasing speed. My plants was to master the 30 minute run then aim to extend it to 5k. Not sure here to go after that.

@hellolilacs it absolutely does get easier, quite addictive and dare I say enjoyable!!

@FallenSkies wow a really fast run!

@bigcatlittlecatcardboardbox congratulations, that's a great distance for 30 minutes

imamearcat · 05/06/2020 16:41

Been to ride my horse this afternoon and got chucked off on the fence, got a big ouchy on my bottom / leg!😂 don't think it's enough for an excuse not to run though!

imamearcat · 05/06/2020 16:42

Good work @FallenSkies! Great time.💪

GuyFawkesDay · 05/06/2020 18:12

Well done @FallenSkies!

Just been out. Spirit was keen, body felt less so. 4.12km in 30 minutes (2 mins of that was warm up walk) and the first mile was uphill into a headwind on a different route.

It was hell. Hated it. Definitely sticking to the other route!!!

At least you kept going @GuyFawkesDay. Good days and bad days but at least you got out there and will have helped build stamina. 💪

Sunshineandflipflops · 05/06/2020 19:36

My plan once I get to 5k comfortably is to do a 10k training plan on my Garmin watch/app. There is a coach programme so you enter your goal time to complete the 10k and it sets you different runs over a certain amount of weeks to get you there. Some interval and some distance I think.

I feel like I need that challenge now!

imamearcat · 05/06/2020 19:40

Yeah I'm gonna do the same @Sunshineandflipflops. Don't think I am there yet tho.

GuyFawkesDay · 05/06/2020 19:47

Stupid thing is that despite including my warm up I was faster today than Wednesday. It just felt hideous 😆

carrottopper · 05/06/2020 20:02

Some amazing times and efforts in here. Well done everyone.

I'm on week 2 run 2. Just completed it but feeling the shin splints. What should I do?

Also I did 3.38km in the time it took to complete the session. I carried on to 5km and finished in just under 39 minutes. Does that sound reasonable?

ChanklyBore · 05/06/2020 21:27

Awesome times bigcat, fallenskies.

Ron, I just thought I would listen to laura and try doing it as a easy pace/hard pace. I reckon I could do that by going back to 5 mins steady run, push it for 1 min, steady for 5, push for 1, etc a la week one.

I was supposed to be a graduate today, but I’ll have to graduate tomorrow instead. I put some food in the oven for tea, went out for my run and got through the warm up and five minutes of running when I got a panicked phone call from the DC at home saying the oven was smoking. So I ran home again to sort it out and then of course never got back out again. I’ve decided to use it as a “quick mile” exercise for today. You do run faster when your house is burning down (it wasn’t, there was just an extra pan in there with baking paper on it which was smoking, my dc are old enough to sort it out but did not).

Never mind!

chunkyrun · 06/06/2020 08:04

Running fail this morning. Got up, got dressed. Stood on my doorstep for a minute and went back inside 😆 was pissing it down and blowing a gale. Might try again later

NoTeaForMe · 06/06/2020 08:17

Did anyone see my question re foam rollers? Does anyone have one? Do you use them after running to help muscles? Thanks.

Chankly I bet you ran pretty speedy back up your “burning” house! What a panic that must have been!

TryingToBeBold · 06/06/2020 08:27

@notea sorry must have missed it. I haven't got one but I've been recommended one by so many runners so maybe we should invest? They dont look too pricy on Ebay etc.

One of the week 8 runs I thought my calf was playing up and it led me to taking an extra rest day but I've just googled shin splints and I have them to. Right side is worse but it hasnt stopped me getting out yet. Not sure if I'm making worse?

@ChanklyBore a few of us are graduating tomorrow! @RonBurgundyspanpipe and myself at least. What a great day it will be!

NoTeaForMe · 06/06/2020 08:34

Trying thanks. Now worries my question was missed, it’s quite a fast moving thread now! To be honest I only just remembered I had asked and not got an answer!
What are they recommended for? Like a massage on your muscles? There are so many of amazon! Different textures etc etc!
