I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

@TryingToBeBold and @choc27 The new route was easier in some ways, but harder in others. It was good not having to be constantly looking down to avoid tree roots and stones etc , but obviously had to be aware of any traffic. In some ways I was more able to enjoy the countryside because I could look up and around more, but I certainly found it much much harder on my feet and knees. The bit strava did track showed that my pace was faster - though being on the homeward part it was also more downhill. So, a mixed bag. I think my plan will be to complete week 9 on the roads to get as big a distance as possible, but after that I will do a mix up route of both. Hope tomorrow goes well @choc27 and your next run too @TryingToBeBold

titsbumfannythelot · 19/05/2020 08:36

Well done thanks, I found the last minute of each run harder but was determined not to stop. I think even after week 9 I will need some sort of coach cheering me round!

JonHammIsMyJamm · 19/05/2020 09:18

Today marks the beginning of week 7 for me. On my app that is just a 20 min run with a 5min warm/cool either side. I just need to do it but it’s the first time I’ve felt myself holding back from moving on with the programme.

GuyFawkesDay · 19/05/2020 09:22

I did that yesterday, was really worried but it was much better than I thought it would be.

Go for it. It was more an mental than physical challenge for me.

And you can always repeat it if your struggle x

JonHammIsMyJamm · 19/05/2020 09:28

I’ve just seen your kind words re my last grim run, @RonBurgundyspanpipe, thank you. Thank you too @GuyFawkesDay, it really does help having encouraging voices on this thread.

Good luck to anyone struggling with their runs today 💪

titsbumfannythelot · 19/05/2020 09:34

Let us know how your run goes @JonHammIsMyJamm

imaflutteringkite · 19/05/2020 09:38

I've found my toes run when I run so I ordered some toe socks. They've arrived today so I'm going to try them out tonight on w2 r3.

lovinglavidaloca · 19/05/2020 09:43

I’ve did C25k last summer and once I got to the 20 minute run just went from there myself but gave up running.

Decided last week to give it another go and did warm up then 5 run and 3 walk with 5 runs in total. Last night I did 5 run, 3 walk, 8 run, 3 walk, 5 run.

Am I right in thinking I should be doing 2 8 minute runs next? Then the dreaded 20?

I’m not using the app because I don’t want to take my phone out with me.

lovinglavidaloca · 19/05/2020 09:45

My previous post should say 3 runs in total, not 5!

ChanklyBore · 19/05/2020 10:04

Hope all the long runs go well. I did w7r2 yesterday (5mins wam up and down with 25 min run in between) and it was a bit naff. Got another fastest km but slower other than that, it was raining too and people kept getting in my way. Found it hard even though I had two rest days this weekend and my legs have been annoying me all night. Not painful exactly just uncomfortable enough to stop me sleeping.

I think I’m going to bite the bullet and buy some running gear. How can I buy trainers online though, that’s the problem? I don’t even really know what size I am.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 19/05/2020 10:20

Just finished it @titsbumfannythelot and it felt AMAZING! Funny how these things can go, isn’t it?

There are some good trainer buying guides online (running sites), @chanklybore. Google the ‘wet foot test’ and it’ll help you figure out your gait style, then you can filter your search for shoes in that style. I had a proper gait test at a running shop but have done the wet foot test in the past. I like Brooks as I like a wide toe box and have a slightly pronating gait with a high arch. I buy a size larger than my shoe size.

titsbumfannythelot · 19/05/2020 10:24

Excellent. I felt pretty euphoric to have managed 20 minutes too. I honk because it was much more a mental than physical barrier.

titsbumfannythelot · 19/05/2020 10:27

I honk? Ffs I meant I think

Thingsarel00kingup · 19/05/2020 11:13

Hello 👋🏻 Can I join in please - did my first run yesterday (W1 day1) after weeks of putting it off! Felt great, really want to complete the C25K and all your posts are really encouraging!

Have run in the past, but stopped due to a back injury, then life took over so it's like starting again. Ordered new trainers at the start of lockdown and had just been looking at them until yesterday 😂 Can anyone suggest some tracks for a playlist please, pretty much like all music but a lot of mine is very 'chilled', not ideal 😴 Need some upbeat ideas!

Happy Running 🏃‍♀️🏃🏽

JonHammIsMyJamm · 19/05/2020 11:55

The music on my running playlist doesn’t necessarily represent my taste but it has the best best to get me me through and keep my breathing and footwork in rhythm or just kick me up the backside...

You shook me all night long - AC/DC
Insomnia - Faithless
Heartbreak make me a dancer - Sophie Ellis Bextor/Freemasons
Echo Beach - Martha & the Muffins
Gotta Get Thru This - Daniel Beddingfield
Feel Good Inc. - Gorillaz
Hard Times - Paramore
My My My - Armand Van Helden
Living for the weekend - Hard Fi

JonHammIsMyJamm · 19/05/2020 11:56

Sorry for repeated words Blush

DivisionBelles · 19/05/2020 13:17

I did W5R1 this morning. It was ok. I found the last run hard but I kept telling myself I wasn't going to give up and I didn't. I've decided I don't like the actual running, but I do like how it makes me feel afterwards.

Stopthehop · 20/05/2020 08:09

I've just done wk1 run3. I usually enjoy it but I hated every second of it, my calves and shins were killing and I had a stone in my shoe. My trainers are wrecked, I've ordered a new pair so hopefully that will help for the next run.

Skykavin · 20/05/2020 09:17

I've just done W1R2 and my calves were tired this time. I find it so hard to remember to slow down too, I find a slightly quicker pace more comfortable but I know I need to slow down so I can keep going when the running sections get longer.

mama4321 · 20/05/2020 10:57

W9R2 done. One more to go Smile.

Keep going everybody you'll be at the end before you know it

titsbumfannythelot · 20/05/2020 11:00

I've just attempted w6r2 but had to abort due to an ankle pain. Feeling very defeated as I don't want to give up but don't want to do more harm either.

Well done on everyone for getting out today.

mama4321 · 20/05/2020 11:16

@titsbumfannythelot Sorry to hear that and I can understand how you feel but much better to listen to your body as you know and give your ankle a good rest. Hope you are soon able to get out there again.

lovinglavidaloca · 20/05/2020 11:22

I have the two 8 minute runs tonight. One felt hard enough on Monday Shock

TryingToBeBold · 20/05/2020 14:13

Attempted week 7 run 1 but had to stop for a breather after 14mins. Then ran 16-25.

I was so devastated.
But I had to walk home.
And once I saw how much I'd walked home.. I knew it was all mental. It was all in my head. If I can walk home then I could have pushed through just them 2 mins.

Retry tomorrow.

TryingToBeBold · 20/05/2020 14:15

Oh and just a tip..

If you have a song that gets you through the running like no other..
Google how many BPM it has. And then google other songs with that BPM. You'd be surprised at how many there are that will get your bum moving!
