I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

tibradden well done! I’m due for Wk 5 Run 2 tomorrow and am feeling apprehensive. I do run/jog slowly but am amazed I can do it at all!

Baseline2815 · 14/05/2020 08:57

W9R3 done! Whoa. I finished the programme.

Thought I might die on this run, but anyway I finished damn thing.

This thread has been amazing support.

titsbumfannythelot · 14/05/2020 09:42

Amazing, well done @Baseline2815

JonHammIsMyJamm · 14/05/2020 10:25

Well done to you, @Baseline2815 👏👏👏👏

mama4321 · 14/05/2020 10:56

Well done @Baseline2815. That's brilliant. What's next?

Baseline2815 · 14/05/2020 14:04

For my next run, I've plotted out 5km on Google Maps and I'm going to run that and just see how long it takes me to finish. Or until someone has to come and haul my body away.

I'm really happy to keep up with what I've been doing - running from home to a park and back for 30 minutes. I imagine that in a couple of weeks, it will get easier/faster and I can start adding in some intervals of faster and slower running.

I'm not really looking to do a 10k; I find that about 30 minutes of running every other day is enough for me. Once the pools reopen, I can add swimming back into the mix. I already go for a long bike ride once a week, plus long walks with the kids and dog.

resipsa · 14/05/2020 14:42

@Baseline2815
Still lurking Smile. Congratulations! Great feeling, isn't it?
I'm still doing 30-35 mins (keep going until I hit 5K) every other day. Enough for me too!

Hi everyone, can I join? I have just completed the 25 minute run on week 6 run 3. I was slow, 3.29 K, but I did it and I’m so ridiculously proud of myself!

choc27 · 14/05/2020 16:28

@Baseline2815 congratulations, and everyone else who's still going! I did w8r2 today so final week starts on Saturday! I think I will do what has been mentioned in a previous post next and plot out a 5k (can anyone tell me how to do that?!) and keep running til I complete it.
I too don't know if I want to run for much more than 30 mins so I'll see how I go with actually getting used to doing a 5k before I decide the next step!

titsbumfannythelot · 14/05/2020 17:18

@choc27 before I started c25k I walked a few routes to get a 5k one, could you do that?

titsbumfannythelot · 14/05/2020 17:26

Should have said that I used my Fitbit to check distance

GuyFawkesDay · 14/05/2020 17:53

W5R1this morning, had a lovely run.

Bricking myself over run 3 this week already!!!

Baseline2815 · 14/05/2020 18:38

@choc27 I just used Google Maps directions and it tells me how far along main roads is 5k. I wouldn't normally run just along main roads but I can do it every so often to check how fast (or slow!) I am.
I am not that into stats so I just want a check now and then.

Castoreum · 14/05/2020 18:43

New person here and W1R2 completed today. I am over fifty and VERY unfit, but have been doing interval training and general fitness at home for the last six weeks in preparation for this, hoping to avoid injury. I used to like running when I was young but haven't actually run anywhere at all for about thirty years so this should be a challenge. It has been OK so far but obviously it's only a minute running at a time. Gulp. It is great to see so many people progressing! Very inspiring.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 14/05/2020 19:08

@Baseline2815 congratulations on your graduation, well done

W7r3 tonight and it was by far the most mentally challenging. Past by three much faster runners and burning up as my t shirt was not breathable and it was hotter than I thought. Did joe wicks this morning too, maybe too much in one day. I had tears streaming down my face, rubbing them then forgetting I had mascara on Blush

Proud I didn't stop but i was gritting my teeth and begging for Laura's voice. I've got week 8 fear now.

Baseline2815 · 14/05/2020 19:32

Ron I have spent so much of this programme begging Sarah Millican to tell me it was okay to stop!

Thankssomuch · 14/05/2020 19:45

I finished Wk 5 Run 2 today. Felt alright!!! Wk 5 Run 3 on Saturday morning. Keep going, everyone who is doing this - it’s so worth it.

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 14/05/2020 19:59

Congratulations everyone, especially Baseline, what an achievement!

I managed Wk 5 R 1 this morning Shock I'm still finding the last minute of each 5 minute block hard going but I'm getting there. I must make a playlist this weekend because I need slow songs to pace myself to Grin

My horrific blister has dried out and my foot looks truly disgusting, but it isn't sore any more!

ChanklyBore · 14/05/2020 19:59

Well done baseline, you are a graduate! Work out routes using this gb.mapometer.com/running

Just find your town then click on your start point, and keep clicking to where you want to do. It will tell you the distance and you can mess around with it until it’s right. If you unclick follow roads you can click your route through parks and fields if there isn’t a footpath showing. It’ll tell you elevation and gradient too to avoid those annoying hills. I love messing around with it and trying new routes out.

Good luck with w5r3 thankssomuch and Guy Fawkes, it’s the big one! But it is honestly so much more manageable than you think, your brain is just messing with you.

You did it even when it was hard, RonBurgundy.....that sets you right up for week 8.

Welcome maddingcrows and castoreum. This is a great place to be.

choc27 · 14/05/2020 20:27

Thanks @ChanklyBore I'll check that out.

Flamingolingo · 14/05/2020 21:34

Anyone else get running rage? We live in a city but very close to a very large several hundred acre park, since lockdown it’s absolutely heaving. Twice in the past week I’ve had to stop dead before falling over out of control dogs - the owners make no attempt to call them back as they cross my path. Today the owner started mouthing off that they were dogs and I needed to go round them (I couldn’t because I was already avoiding her out of control children, her, and another runner in the other direction), I said this (all while still running) and she started shouting abuse after me. It made me really angry and I stuck my finger up (really mature). I don’t think I would have done that if I weren’t running, it just seems to make me rage

tibradden · 14/05/2020 23:48

Thanks @thankssomuch. How did it go today?

tibradden · 14/05/2020 23:50

@thankssomuch Just seen. Well done. Going to start Week 6 early on Sunday.

titsbumfannythelot · 15/05/2020 07:47

@Flamingolingo people are so unaware and/or selfish aren't they.

Flamingolingo · 15/05/2020 07:59

@titsbumfannythelot ahhh thanks. I think I was being a little bit unreasonable, and shouldn’t have let them get into my head. But it does drive me mad! Best stick to mornings, morning people are better and more considerate users of the common.

In other news - I really need new shoes with more support. But have no idea where to get them from right now Confused
