I did my first 'run' today. Think I'm going to need help to go all the way to week 9 but determined to do it before I hit the big 50. Anyone else started this week? Fancy a support thread? Couldn't see an active recent one.

@ChanklyBore
The gear is the best bit. Try Sportshoes.com and Asics Outlet!

That's interesting, I get sore shins on the first run or two and then it seems to get better. I was thinking it was because I was tense at the beginning. I'll try and focus on where I land tomorrow.

mama4321 · 08/05/2020 10:21

I ran W7R3 today and it was so much better than the last run - I was obviously having an off day. I managed to pause the app by mistake, so after realising and restarting it I ended up running for 30 minutes, and it was fine. Still under 4km though, but I am happy enough with that. 2 more weeks to get to 30mins properly, and hopefully speed up a bit. Thank you @choc27 for your encouragement. Hope you have a good start to W8. I won't be running again until Monday. Happy weekend running to everyone else.

choc27 · 08/05/2020 10:35

@mama4321 glad it went well! Can't believe you actually did 30 mins though!!

moita · 08/05/2020 11:29

Well done @mama4321.

W3 R3 done this morning. Got it done before it got too warm.

But nervous about starting W4 next week.

CeibaTree · 08/05/2020 11:37

@mama4321 Great work, I'm glad this one went better than the last one :) I did week 7 run 3 this morning too. It's definitely getting easier to run without stopping. Annoyingly I had to stop briefly after about 10 mins to tie my shoe lace, so added on a couple of minutes.
Have a good long weekend everyone :)

mama4321 · 08/05/2020 12:24

Nor can I! @choc27 Just shows what is possible when you don't know how the time is going! I definitely need to work on not thinking about the running just enjoying the countryside and my audiobook.

mama4321 · 08/05/2020 12:25

Thank you @CeibaTree . Glad yours went well too . It is an amazing feeling. Here's to Week 8

5/1 done today. Felt really good so I kept running for the cool down and tacked an extra 5mins walk onto the end to make up for it.

Well done everyone!

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 08/05/2020 12:55

W6r3 done, I'm officially a runner!!!!GrinGrinGrin

4.1km and looking at a 45 minute 5k if I can keep the pace.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 08/05/2020 12:57

Wooohoo @RonBurgundyspanpipe. Go you!

ChanklyBore · 08/05/2020 13:07

This thread is just full of awesome.

C25k is some kind of witchcraft, I swear. It seems to work AND enthuse people. Perhaps it’s the endorphins.

I was running along the other day and someone moved their kids out of the way as I ran past, I said thank you (I could talk! I wasn’t too out of breath!) and she said you’re the one doing the hard work - and that’s exactly the type of thing I do and say when I see runners. Only this time, the runner was me. I can’t explain that strange feeling.

Have to say, today I am a bit sore after 20/25 min runs this week.

RonBurgundyspanpipe · 08/05/2020 13:11

Thanks @JonHammIsMyJamm

I ran past a neighbour who was barely breaking a sweat on his return home from his run, he does iron man competitions so is really fit. I was bright red and literally on the last 60 secs and he shouted 'well done, you're moving, keep it up.' Really made my day

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 08/05/2020 13:23

I DID IT!!! Wk 4 r1 DONE!!!

YY I notice how nice and encouraging people are too. Lots of nods and smiles so far.

I am so chuffed with myself. I had talked myself out of it last night but I DID IT!!!

FallenSkies · 08/05/2020 15:21

Well done @OhTheseSummerNiiiiights it's so easy to decide against the run and to have gone out when you didn't feel like it is brilliant! I did W4R2 today. Thought it was a good run, but was slower than W4R1. Trying to console myself that any run is better than no run though.

wantingahome · 08/05/2020 23:59

Did W2R3 today and surprisingly enjoyed it!!! Miracles can happen

middleoftheroad · 09/05/2020 09:28

Going to do W1R3 today.
Should have been yesterday, but a neighbour invited me to have a drink (street party) and the rest is history.

I can barely last the minute at the moment though (47 nearly, 2-3st overweight and very unfit).

OhTheseSummerNiiiiights · 09/05/2020 09:59

Thank you fallen, well done to you too. I am just aiming not to stop, no matter how slowly I go.

Well done wanting and good luck middle.

middleoftheroad · 09/05/2020 10:10

Thanks Oh and congrats on getting to week 4. I can only dream of it!

titsbumfannythelot · 09/05/2020 10:10

I've just completed week 4 which I am chuffed about after a tough run 2 on Wednesday.

Have a good weekend everyone and thanks for the encouragement.

middleoftheroad · 09/05/2020 10:11

Well done tits
Your proof that this can be done will motivate newbies like me.

middleoftheroad · 09/05/2020 10:14

You're

titsbumfannythelot · 09/05/2020 10:14

Good luck today @middleoftheroad, I bet you will surprise yourself. You can do this!

CeibaTree · 09/05/2020 10:23

@middleoftheroad I can barely last the minute at the moment though I was exactly the same when I started, but I just finished week 7 and can now run for 25 mins without stopping. If you'd told me a month ago I'd be able to do that I would have just laughed. The program really does work which has really surprised me as I am definitely NOT a natural runner! Good luck :)

HappyLemonSadLemon · 09/05/2020 10:41

Hello everyone. I am so impressed with the progress of everyone on this thread; it is such a positive place.

To the person who asked about sore shins- I had this. I rested for a bit, used some ibuprofen gel and they eased up soon enough. Google Shin splints.

Ok I am STILL on week 4 - been in it for three weeks. I've had a lot going on that has stressed me out, so I was eating badly, not sleeping well etc which made running very difficult. Rather than stop entirely I've just stayed on week 4. Hopefully I'm beginning to feel brighter and I've just done the second run again, with a view to doing W4R3 on Monday and moving into week 5 on Wednesday. The trouble is that I still find it do tough. By the end of it I'm a bit dizzy and my legs are jelly. I'm very daunted by week 5. Any tips?
