ParkRun sandwich 11k this morning but on tired legs and the windy weather made it more challenging today.

Long slow run this morning, after wimping out of my planned 10km on Thursday due to rain. I know. I'm a wimp. 25km through the undulating (race director speak for "you will die") Cotswolds foothills takes me to

70/1600 done

Another 5.6km - walked to the garden centre to get mealworms for the robins.Smile

A very gentle 7 mile amble today trying out new shoes. Need to lace them better I think as they were slipping a bit despite a heel lock lacing pattern.

55.5/944.5 walk and run.

Well done people :)
8 mile slow run and a 3 mile bike ride today.

63.5/936.5 run/walk
11/489 cycle.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2020 17:58

Which shoes did you end up with Tri? I found that since I switched to trail I've had a lot less in the way of injury. Plus I don't care about my time anymore, I run because I like the wind in my hair and I get to clean my mind and escape.

onlyfortonight · 12/01/2020 18:37

A couple of easier days to recover, so just a walk, swim and turbo over 3 days.

5k walk/ 1.5k swim/ 24 k bike
1886 km to go

TriSkiRun99 · 12/01/2020 18:55

Cycle ride with the kids today 15km

Trail shoes are men’s Solomon BondCliff 2, I like cushioning and wide fit. My DH runs in asic trail shoes but I found his too flat even if more “responsive” soles. I’d go try lots on kitten see what suits you.

Recovery run done after yesterday's long one - 6km - most amazing moon, I couldn't get a decent photo of it though...

Takes me to 76/1600 done 👊

My shoes are Saucony Peregrine ISO - men's shoes as I have fucking massive trotters (size 9) - they are supposed to be a hybrid trail/road and I have to say they do really well - this is my second pair.

Just become a total running wanker and bought a bag of Tailwind powder for the long runs... caffeinated of course, so we will see how that goes next Saturday!

Jumbojem · 12/01/2020 20:18

Hi there,
I feel like I'm lagging behind the rest of you and feeling sorry for myself having already picked up an(other) injury. Still did manage a couple of 5ks this weekend.
So, 33/967.
I need new trail shoes too, I did have men's Saucony Peregrine's but my son wore them more than me and I didn't love them so handed them over to son and using as an excuse to get some new ones!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/01/2020 20:27

8km today

Walked 3 miles today, this year I have walked 22, rowed 1, cycled 6. 1991 to go.

TriSkiRun99 · 12/01/2020 21:23

nothing I bought some tailwind for Xmas too, as DH needs something for his ultra training and I thought I’d try it out on longer runs as I don’t like gels. No tried it yet though.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2020 21:41

I really really like my ON Cloudventures for heavy mud and water. They aren't great for road though, so I've got some peregrines for mixed surface runs. I don't love them as much yet.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2020 21:44

I wore my ONs today and was running past walkers picking their way through mud. Very empowering. (I was considerate and didn't splash)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 12/01/2020 21:46

I was thinking about adding something to my bladder other than squash. Not sure what though, my tummy can get very speedy if it dislikes something and I can't eat running. I'm trying to cure that.

amysaurus87 · 13/01/2020 04:34

30.76 miles of walking done this week. It fees good to be back in a routine after Christmas and New Year.

47.59/1952.41

We've been given a treadmill by a friend who mo longer wanted it, so I can use that to help with the miles!

nachthexe · 13/01/2020 05:39

Ooooo. I hadn’t seen this. I’m late to the party and it’s-40 here, but I have a perfectly serviceable elliptical gathering dust until it warms up...

Inniu · 13/01/2020 09:46

5k this morning

TriSkiRun99 · 13/01/2020 12:17

Brutal wet windy long run which I strangely enjoyed as I ignored pace completely listen to a podcast and did my longest run to date 22.5km. But even more terrified that my body won’t cope with a marathon.. will just keep adding miles and hope! Alas my niggly hip was really starting to play up on the last mile today.

Running 63km
Swimming 2.5k
Cycling 45km

NothingIsWrong · 13/01/2020 12:41

@TriSkiRun99 those are my favourite runs! I am on audiobooks for long runs, working my way through the Jack Parlabane series by Christopher Brookmyre and they really pass the miles.

When I was marathon training the longest run I did was 28km and I got round the marathon in 5h03, you will be fine - when is it?

Can you get a sports physio or similar to look at your hip? My knee is playing up a bit at the moment so I have an appointment this evening to see what's what...

NothingIsWrong · 13/01/2020 12:45

@OhYouBadBadKitten I use insoles as well in my Peregrines, these ones

www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00IR22URO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

and the combination works really well. I tend to overpronate a bit though...

The only place to walk without having to drive first is the canal towpath which is very muddy in parts at the moment. I've got some waterproof berghaus shoes but I don't think they've got the greatest grip. I had some asics, but they were just slightly tight (I've got a stiff and somewhat enlarged big toe joint, after dropping a small boat on it) so I gave them to DD when she went to uni. I'm intending to start doing a bit of running so don't want to use boots.... so, any recommendations for waterproof shoes with great grip and wide across the front?
