After doing this successfully now for 2 years I thought I'd start the 2020 thread

All welcome

I'm at 35k walking plus whatever I did before I realised I hadn't started Strava the other day. I have managed a walk everyday this year so far, so quite pleased with myself. I think I might need some new walking boots though if this mud plugging continues.
I've also done 10k in the bike at the gym and 2.6k on the cross trainer warming up.
So that's 955k to go.
Is there an over 65 support group for this? Grin

Brimful · 13/01/2020 19:29

Hi all, I've had to have a few more rest days than planned (teeny tiny injury) so I'm a little disappointed with my mid-month total, but still hoping to reach my 85km a month goal.

Run total: 39.1/960.9 (km)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2020 20:52

I should look into that Nothing, thanks.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2020 20:55

These are brilliantly grippy Errol. I can run through anything in them. Even deep water (though once water is above ankle height they do fill) Just a bit dead on tarmac.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2020 20:57

Cycled 3 miles so 14/486.

TriSkiRun99 · 13/01/2020 21:03

ErrolTheDragon I just accept that if running my feet will sometimes get wet, if you are planning to regularly go run in muddy places perhaps try some trail running shoes as a compromise? The more pricey ones can come with gortex covering. Or try some waterproof socks?

NothingIsWrong · 13/01/2020 21:21

@OhYouBadBadKitten I am now coveting a pair of those Cloudventures... obvs this means I need to find some more trails!

Have plotted my 27km run for this weekend and it's more road than trail. The following weekend is dropping it back to 21km, so I may try a more trail run....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 13/01/2020 21:50

They've given me confidence to be able to run down scree if that says anything.

So tailwind... is it worth me trying?

NothingIsWrong · 13/01/2020 22:07

Yes, I love tailwind. It's like rocket fuel, if you get the caffeinated stuff. I can't eat when doing long runs, my stomach sort of shuts down so I need to get the calories in somehow. Gels make me vomit, Satan's fruit flavoured jizz...

ErrolTheDragon · 14/01/2020 00:40

Yes, its goretex trail shoes I'm after... I hate wet feet. Looks like the specialist running shoe shop which is weirdly in the next village stocks cloudventure. Thanks!

Accidentalaccountant · 14/01/2020 06:04

Haven't been able to do much last couple of days so 1947 left

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2020 07:29

I think I might order a sample of tailwind then. I'm trying to teach myself to eat for long runs but I just can't. I'm rubbish at drinking too, but getting a bit better.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/01/2020 13:04

Today was the first time this year that I looked at the weather forecast and couldn't see a hours break in the rain - and that's in the northwest of England. So I did 5km on the rower instead.

71.1/928.9

I'm finding the combination of this thread and the Apple watch very motivating to keep up with a steady 5 km per day - though it nags if the exercise or movement rings are behind where they usually are by a certain time which is mildly irritating. It also reminds to stand up and move around for at least a minute in each hour up to 12 per day, which is quite useful if you've got a sedentary and sometimes engrossing job.

wapphighwood · 14/01/2020 13:08

Can I join? I've set myself a 1000km target for this year, either walking, cycling or swimming. I can't run due to a hip issue and ongoing prolapse problem (thanks dc2!)

I've got a turbo trainer but do most of my cycling once the weather gets better/mornings lighter.

I try and pop out every week day to get a mile walk in at lunchtime (I only get 30 minutes) and either a longer walk or cycle at the weekend and once in the week.

Haven't been swimming for months but thought I'd include when I finally get back to pool.

I've managed 30km so far in 2020

OhYouBadBadKitten · 14/01/2020 13:35

Welcome Wapp
getting out every lunch is great, much better than sitting at a desk.

I've been out for a wild, wet, windy muddy 6.5 mile trail run. I absolutely loved it. It feels good to be alive.

70/930

TriSkiRun99 · 14/01/2020 13:37

Also try join the swimming for fitness thread wapphighwood if you want some swimming inspiration.

NothingIsWrong · 14/01/2020 18:28

A blustery wet 9km done. Hated every second. Some runs just do not go well. Onto the next one!

Takes me to 85/1600 so far...

wapphighwood · 14/01/2020 21:05

Thanks for the welcome, I'm hoping sharing will help with motivation.

I've not managed anything today because of the weather but tomorrow I'm off work so plan to tire dc2 out at toddler group then get on the turbo trainer when he hopefully has a good long nap

Accidentalaccountant · 15/01/2020 05:31

6 miles yesterday. 1941 left to go.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/01/2020 09:57

6.5 km

42.5/957.5

Good 4km pretty much pain free, but then a 1.2km straight hill slowed me right down. Still, I think that was my least painful run this year. But it's still not 100%.

Brimful · 15/01/2020 11:26

Lovely 6k this morning.

45.1/954.9

Joined a gym this week, I have my induction on Saturday after Parkrun. :)

Inniu · 15/01/2020 12:17

Ran 10K in the wind this morning

51/1949

wapphighwood · 15/01/2020 13:46

Managed a quick 10k on turbo trainer, so up to 41km

ErrolTheDragon · 15/01/2020 16:11

A leisurely 8.7 km in lovely sunshine today. This was with DH who is nursing a strained Achilles' tendon, and our nearly 14 yr old but still game standard dachshund.Grin

So that's 79.8/920.2

Fullyhuman · 15/01/2020 18:10

Walked a couple of miles today and - significantly, as i’m recovering from SPD/PGP - managed several flights of stairs relatively pain-free. I’m so pleased: aiming to be able to start running again in March.
