Our long running parkrun thread has gotten very quiet, so with the last 2019 results processed thought it was a good time to refresh ready for 2020

Parkrun is a force for good. Run, walk or volunteer. All are equally welcome. Saturdays 9am 5k.

So if you are a newbie first timer, a volunteer, a local regular or a challenge chasing tourist come join us here. Ask questions, share stories and let’s encourage each other in 2020

Had my first aborted attempt at a parkrun. Had it all planned - fencing competition more or less adjacent to a new parkrun and time before check in... so got up super early, arrived in time, started jogging to parkrun, realised tight calf was getting worse rather than better and abandoned the attempt. Very annoying!

CalmConfident · 10/02/2020 22:40

I did first timer briefing this week, so great to volunteer and run!

Re speed @thebeatofthedrum ...I think you get some quick results then hit a plateau, mind you I am slower when I started ... but on an improving trend at moment!

DeepFriedPizza I salute your organisation.

RubySlippers77 · 14/02/2020 10:14

@DeepfriedPizza that is an amazing number of runs and volunteers Grin

Did we all survive Storm Dennis? Lots of cancellations, especially in the south of the country. I was at a 250th event, small but v friendly. Wet and windy, my time was rubbish and I'm blaming Dennis the Menace. Bumped into a few old friends and I think I have managed to wangle a visit to a "not open to the public" event soon!

BuddhaAtSea · 15/02/2020 15:18

Mine got cancelled :(

Runningonempty84 · 15/02/2020 15:47

Mine was on. Very wet, muddy, and blowy, but got round in a not-too-shoddy 21 mins.

randomsabreuse · 15/02/2020 18:58

In charge of monsters (4 and 1) and decided today would not instill a love of running in either.

Trying to get to 50 before I move in April. 5 to go so getting a bit tight!

Spudlet · 15/02/2020 19:02

Did my 5th parkrun today, and the only one I couldn’t run in its entirety... I have a hip flexor strain so did 4 minutes running to 2 minute walking. Even so, I was only 28 seconds off my personal best so not completely displeased with that - it was actually my second fastest time ever. Nice to see the progress, even though I’d rather run the whole thing!

It wasn’t actually too windy at all at ours, though it’s getting a bit wilder now - hope the weather wasn’t too blustery for everyone else!

FrangipaniBlue · 15/02/2020 21:01

I did a Parkrun sandwich with a bit extra again and by the time I got home every single item of clothing I was wearing was wet 🤣

CalmConfident · 15/02/2020 21:06

My home parkrun was cancelled so did my nearest alternative - really flat but windy and puddle-tastic!

Slow today but did not stop - pleased I actually made it out rather than staying in bed.

Hubby did it this week as his running club were all doing the same one for some championship. I was at home with DD, she is old enough to come a long and hang about in the play park herself etc but not in this weather.
Junior parkrun was cancelled again

I have plans to do our local most difficult one this Saturday. I have high hopes to get under 30 mins at this one this year (pb is 30.54 at this one vs 26.17 at local flat one) so fingers crossed I achieve it

rivierliedje · 18/02/2020 18:45

Both my nearest parkruns were cancelled on Saturday and the junior was cancelled on Sunday as well, so no Parkruns this weekend. At this rate I won't get to do any runs this month and a max of two volunteers at the junior.

DeepfriedPizza · 21/02/2020 13:54

Things are not looking good for this weekend either Sad flooding everywhere

CatyaPurella · 22/02/2020 08:24

Off to be parkrun tourists today!

Runningonempty84 · 22/02/2020 11:12

Steady parkrun for me today, in very windy conditions. Course was flooded so had to be re-routed. Was still 2nd lady though, so chuffed with that. Racing tomorrow -eek!

AuntieStella · 22/02/2020 11:18

Home parkrun for me today.

Slightly unusual to just run it. I'm usually in hi-viz when I'm there (I did a lot of tourism in the past year!)

BuddhaAtSea · 22/02/2020 11:21

I did it too! But blimey, that wind is ferocious!!! Was against it most of the course and it felt like my lungs were balloons on CPAP, could hardly exhale!
Loved it though, and I joined the others for a coffee afterwards, had a nice chat, it was great. Currently soaking in the bath :)
Have a nice Saturday everyone and we’ll done!

SegregateMumBev · 22/02/2020 14:35

Escaped lightly in that London today, bit of a breeze but no rain and quite mild. Couldn’t stay around for “park faffing” as I had a plane to catch, but I met quite a few parkrun tourists and global tourists, as well as spotting a 500 shirt!

Voxx · 22/02/2020 16:13

I did my first parkrun today! I’ve done some running before but always by myself and not at all since October last year. I was a bit worried it would be intimidating or that I’d be last but it was so supportive and friendly. I managed 33 minutes 40 which I was rather pleased about especially considering we were running into the wind for a lot of it! Will definitely go back.

randomsabreuse · 22/02/2020 17:08

Made it (ish) - my barcode didn't - as I left it in the bag with warm hats etc for DC. Was supposed to be "hard" according to my plan and managed approx 32 minutes in a hailstorm so not too bad. Would definitely not want to be walking in this weather. Brrr

DeepfriedPizza · 23/02/2020 12:28

I didn’t manage my sub 30 but still got a course best. The wind and snow was blowing me back down the hills. Junior parkrun was on so I did timekeeping. I’m now at 78 runs and 75 volunteers

rivierliedje · 23/02/2020 12:34

Was working yesterday so no Parkrun, but volunteered at juniors today. It was very windy and freezing, so we only had a handful of children. Lovely bike ride home though with the wind at my back and the sun having come out!
