Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

@chaosisaladder - I loved week 3. I think it's because you run for so much longer.
Made me feel like the programme is possible!
I've just done W4R1 - not as scary as I thought. Kept going after the final 5 mins and even tried to run a bit faster!
I've done 4 days in a row so will have a rest day tomorrow

chaosisaladder · 23/04/2019 07:43

@pardalis good to know - I don’t think I’ve ever gotten any further than I am now so I’m determined to keep going. Shock at you doing 4 days in a row - bloody hell! Well done

MissingPanda · 23/04/2019 09:38

Completed w2r3. I have to say I'm really enjoying it atm.

WineCheeseSleep · 23/04/2019 12:26

Hello everyone, I'd like to join in please, I did W1R1 yesterday. I tried this a few years ago and got as far as W2 but then got injured and then pregnant and lost momentum! I found it easier than last time but like most people just can't imagine myself running the full 5k at the end.

It was actually lovely doing it yesterday in the warm evening, and a nice bit of time just for me.

Poppysball · 23/04/2019 13:00

Hi been reading this thread as I started 2 weeks ago.

I have been seeing a counsellor for various reasons and she recommended doing this as it fits in well with busy family life and work. She said that running is known to lift low mood and help with anxiety. I told her I would do it as I wanted to try and do something positive.

First time I did it was 2 weeks ago and I could barely even run for 30 secs! Towards the end my right hip joint started to hurt. As soon as I stopped running it was ok. This worried me and so I haven’t done it again since as don’t want to do myself damage. DH said it’s probably just my body getting used to actually moving and he thinks I should try again but I’m not sure.

The best thing about it for me was being outside. It was a lovely evening and I was pretty much alone in nearby park/field. It felt wonderful being away from the house for half a hour and getting some fresh air.

Now I feel like a failure as I haven’t been again because I didn’t like the hip pain. Due to see the counsellor soon and feel like she will be disappointed that I haven’t tried harder. I am disappointed in myself & so feel even lower about things.

What does anyone think? Shall I keep going - could the hip thing just be because I’m unfit? Has anyone else had this happen at the start and then it got better as the body got used to it?

Thanks for any advice, great thread.

JPduck · 23/04/2019 15:03

@Poppysball - congrats firstly on starting, that's the hard bit imo.

I'd suggest you get out and walk rather than nothing until your hip feels stronger. I'm on week 6 and in the early weeks I've had back pain, knee pain and sore ankles ( not all at once!). When I felt I couldn't do the run, I took an extra rest day and also decreased what I expected to do.

However if your hip pain continues I'd suggest seeking medical advise.

Good luck, you can do it! Think of it as a 9 step programme rather than in weeks, takes the pressure off 😊

crumpet · 23/04/2019 15:52

Perhaps for a period you could still use the plan but instead of running walk even more briskly during the running sections. Then when you do feel that you are up to running you could start again at week 1 run 1. At least then you have the app encouraging you and helping with your timings. I rather like having Sarah Millican to help me along!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 23/04/2019 17:48

Something crazy has happened...I wish it was a run day today Shock

Pardalis · 23/04/2019 21:27

@MyGastIsFlabbered - hope you're ok.

I didn't have a rest day today. Went out and did W4R2. Really enjoyed it.
I'm definitely addicted!

BedraggledBlitz · 23/04/2019 22:58

Ha @MyGast I am looking forward to run days. Who AM I??

I've decided to stop weighing myself. I'm not losing weight but feel much better about myself. I weighed myself today and no change since I started running, which momentarily made me feel rubbish. But fuck it, I'm definitely healthier!

swimmingdory · 24/04/2019 09:09

I love that you're all starting to look forward to it!! I hope i get to that point.

W2R2 done - wasn't as bad as i expected considering i had a few drinks last night.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 24/04/2019 09:42

@swimmingdory hungover runs are the worst!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 24/04/2019 16:13

I'm so gutted. I've got an upset stomach so can't run today. Genuinely disappointed about it.

WineCheeseSleep · 24/04/2019 20:50

I did W1R2 today, much harder than run 1, not sure if that's because I was tired after the first run or because I ran after dinner (just ran out of time!). I did it though! It was really nice to be out too.

I tried Jo Whiley's voice today and she was so lovely, really kept me going.

JPduck · 24/04/2019 21:13

I 🙈had a horrible run w6r2...... however on the positive side .... my new flip belt to store keys, phone etc is superb and can highly recommend 😀

sanityisamyth · 25/04/2019 09:20

Gutted :( had to have 2 weeks off as I'm a single mum and had no-one to look after DS whilst I went for a run over the Easter holidays. I had completed W4R3 pretty successfully before the break. Went back to repeat a week 4 run and couldn't do it. Couldn't complete the last 3 runs and feel like a failure. Going to try again on Saturday and stick to week 4 until I can do it competently again.

MissingPanda · 25/04/2019 11:16

Completed wk3 r1 today. The first 3 min run was hard, especially as the second half of it was mainly up hill, not a steep hill but still. Depending on how the next 2 runs go I may repeat this run/week before moving on.

@MyGast sorry to hear you're not feeling well.

@sanity don't beat yourself up. Two weeks is a long break, just keep going until you get there. The important thing is not to give up.

@JPDuck I have a zipped pocket in my running leggings where I keep my keys and inhaler. My phone I carry though. I like to keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't cut out which to be fair it hasn't done since wk 1.

sanityisamyth · 25/04/2019 16:41

Thanks @MissingPanda going to go out on Saturday when DS is with his father and see how I get on. Can see I'm going to be repeating W4 runs a lot!!!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 25/04/2019 18:51

Smashed W3R2 this evening. I'm on such a buzz!

BedraggledBlitz · 25/04/2019 19:44

I've got a similar juggling act @sanity I might get out my never-used exercise bikes for days that I hsve to miss a run.

Isn't it a great feeling @MyGast? I feel like cheering at the end of each run!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 25/04/2019 20:00

I do feel close to collapse but on such a high when I finish.

Pardalis · 25/04/2019 20:35

W4R3 done! Not looked at week 5 yet. Too scared!
Will fit in another week 4 run over the weekend

chaosisaladder · 26/04/2019 11:56

Did W3R2 today! Need to stop eating all the Easter eggs though Blush but it is helping massively with my mental health

sanityisamyth · 27/04/2019 11:18

After a horrific run on Thursday I've just been out (on a very windy day!!) and actually managed to finish all of the runs on W4R3. I was repeating them from before my break but I now feel like I'm a bit more back to where I was. Going to attempt W5 next week but I've got a fun run a contradiction in terms on Sunday so I won't do W5R3 until the following week.

Feel like I've got my mojo back 👏👏👏

thisusernameun · 27/04/2019 11:30

So glad I found you! Just finished w1r3, so still very early days but determined to go through the programme. Was never very sporty. But I Used to go to the gym 2 times a week and did a lot of waking before I had my son (1 year). Need to get back to doing something and I like that it is just 30 minutes and don't need to be in time for a class.
