Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

@thisusernameun you're doing well! Keep it up :)

MissingPanda · 27/04/2019 13:18

I woke up to strong winds and rain so the last thing I wanted to do was go running. I knew I'd regret it if I didn't so I went and am so pleased I did. I completed wk3 r2. I did alter my route slightly to avoid running uphill the second half of the first 3 min run but felt so good when running the second 90 sec run that I did run uphill during the second 3 min run and added an extra minute onto the end of it.

I'll probably still do an extra run for this week but I'm feeling more positive this time.

MissingPanda · 27/04/2019 13:19

@sanityisamyth well done on completing it.

@thisusernameun welcome to the thread.

sanityisamyth · 27/04/2019 15:34

Just had a moment of madness. Have signed my DS (5) up for a Junior Parkrun tomorrow with friends and I've also registered myself. Not sure how many I'm going to get done, or when I'll be ready to do them but I feel like I have something to aim for now. Didn't think I'd have done that a couple of months ago!!!

Pardalis · 27/04/2019 20:09

Just repeated a week 4 run. Was quite tired going out as I had to go to work today (normally just mon-fri) and was on my feet most of it.
Managed it though and did the usual run on at the end. Have looked at week 5. Looks ok. Just all 5 min runs

GeorgeTheFirst · 27/04/2019 20:46

Hip pain - I get this if I don't stretch well after a run. Toe touch, hip flexor (down on one knee, looks a bit like the position on starting blocks) and the one where you lie down, put one foot on the other knee, then lift that knee in the air to a right angle bend.

Google stretches for hip pain if I haven't described it well enough 😀

sanityisamyth · 28/04/2019 02:41

@Pardalis have you seen all of the week 5 runs. They're not all the same this week ... 😱

chaosisaladder · 28/04/2019 06:04

@georgethefirst thanks for that - I suspected it was due to my lack of stretching Blush but bloody hell! It was so painful! Then I made the mistake of taking a prescription strength co-codamol (it really was that bad) which ruined me for a day! Needless to say, I’ll be stretching after every run from now on!

How often are people running - every other day as advised or more often if you feel okay?

MyGastIsFlabbered · 28/04/2019 09:27

I'm not stressing about W4, I was so worried about W3 but I managed it so I can do W4! The boyfriend is making me watch the London marathon and joking it'll be me next year 😮

Looking forward to starting W4 tomorrow. Never thought I'd say that.

Pardalis · 28/04/2019 12:09

@sanityisamyth - oh really?!! Bumholes

Pardalis · 28/04/2019 12:11

@chaosisaladder - I'm doing 4 a week. Also been doing consecutive days. Feels ok at the moment!
I'm repeating runs though instead of continuing

chaosisaladder · 28/04/2019 12:24

@pardalis ah okay - I was going to move onto week 4 tomorrow but my calves were screaming at me at the end of the w3r3 today so I’ll repeat it tomorrow I think.

I’m surprised at how much get up and go I’ve still got - I haven’t missed a run so far which is v unusual for me. I’m also surprised at how much better I feel in myself (even I don’t look any better because I am an utter chocolate fiend)

WineCheeseSleep · 28/04/2019 12:40

I just completed W1R3, it wasn't too bad. I still cannot believe I'll ever run 5k non-stop but trying to just not think about that and trust in the programme!

Re frequency of runs - are we supposed to do it every other day? I thought it was 3 over the course of a week, so this week it was Mon, Weds and Sunday. Is that OK?

sanityisamyth · 28/04/2019 15:47

@WineCheeseSleep I do 3 runs a week. I usually do Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday as it works out with work/childcare.

sanityisamyth · 28/04/2019 15:51

Took DS to a Junior Parkrun this morning (2K). He got half way round and gave up so we came stone dead last. I actually felt like I could have carried on a bit longer. I never thought I'd feel like that in a million years.

I'm now thoroughly appreciating the 5 minute walk though as I felt my breathing was more off than when I've got Sarah Milican in my ear!!

Going to do a family fun on Sunday and back to Junior Parkrun the Sunday after that to beat our time of 20 minutes!!!

BedraggledBlitz · 28/04/2019 16:09

I definitely leave a break between runs. Ive aimed for every other day but can't always do it, so try to cover 3 in a week. Really not sure where I'll get a run in this week, no childcare.

Pardalis · 28/04/2019 19:30

Just repeated a week 4 run.
Have looked at week 5 run 3

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!

dementedma · 28/04/2019 21:34

I was on the previous thread. Started W1R1 in January. Today I did my first 5k park run. I had to walk up the hill in the middle 3 times ( 3 circuits of the park) but ran the rest, so about 4.5 of the 5K running. Got round in 42 minutes. In January i struggled with the jump to 3 minutes. I am 55. You guys can do this. Dont give up!

Pardalis · 28/04/2019 21:53

@dementedma -thank you!

I'm not going to bloody give up!

dementedma · 28/04/2019 22:06

Attagirl pardalis!

sanityisamyth · 29/04/2019 08:56

@Pardalis my thoughts entirely!! I had a feeling you hadn't looked at each week 🤣🤣🤣

CurlsandCurves · 29/04/2019 09:02

Hi sorry I’ve not been about much. Easter hols and all that.

I’ve done week 3 over 2 weeks, doing 2 runs a week. Attempting week 4 today.
Pardalis I see what you mean re week 5 😱

Thanks for the encouragement dementedma it’s really inspiring to hear from someone who’s been there and done it!

sanityisamyth · 29/04/2019 09:19

*each run that week

MissingPanda · 29/04/2019 13:28

Wk3 r3 completed. I think I'll do another one on Thursday but will see how I feel on the day.

@Pardalis I did wonder if you'd checked out all 3 runs on wk5 😁😜😂

Electrocute1980 · 29/04/2019 16:51

Hi all, can I join you please? I completed C25K two years ago then trained for a 10k charity run. My eldest is at school but at the time dc2 was just a toddler and it became such a chore to fit in running 3 times a week that I completely lost my love for it and stopped. He's now at nursery and I have a little more time so today I started week 1 of C25K again. Really loved it and have felt amazing all day. Slowed the pace right down as I have hypermobility so have to be really careful. I thought I'd find some encouragement here :)
