Hello to anyone who wants to join me over here Smile

A few of us tagged onto the end of the new year/new you c25k gang but they were already at the end or had finished and so perhaps it is best for us to have a new one to discuss our newbie woes, aches and pains?

I’m at the beginning of week 3. Just been out again today, I should’ve done W3R2 but repeated w3r1 instead as I wasn’t comfortable last time, I think I took it too fast. Plus, it is ruddy boiling here today! It went much better and i’ll move on to w3r2 on Sunday.

Please join me, say hi and let us know where you are on the programme and update us on how you’re finding it.

Another newbie here. I completed the programme 3 or 4 years ago and ran regularly but haven't done it for ages so I am now starting again.

Week 1 run 1 done . Was harder than I remembered but I know it works so I am sticking with it.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 15/04/2019 18:56

W2R1 done...that was tough, I'm not gonna lie. At the moment the idea of running for 5 minutes let alone 5K seems completely unachievable. I've just entered a race...I must be mad.

swimmingdory · 15/04/2019 19:51

Wow @MyGastIsFlabbered when is your race! That's something to keep you focused! I'd love to be able to do a run for next year... need to get fitness and then somehow figure out how to fit it in outside lol

Hi @Howlongtillbedtime we're dead on the same point! When are you doing run 2?

Howlongtillbedtime · 15/04/2019 20:31

Hi dory It will have to be tomorrow as the rest of the week is manic here.

CurlsandCurves · 15/04/2019 20:36

MyGast I know how you feel. If you’d told me a month ago I’d be running for a whole 3 minutes at a time I’d have laughed.

But it’s so well designed, it is doable, that’s whats so great about it.

I am bricking it about going up to 5 minutes next week tho!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 16/04/2019 09:28

It's 'only' a 5K race on June 16th which is the week after I finish C25K so I'm hoping I can do it. My boyfriend is talking about entering it too but I'm not sure if I want him to, he's been running for years so 5K is nothing to him whereas it'll possibly kill me!

MissingPanda · 16/04/2019 10:33

I completed wk1 r3 this morning. I'm not sure whether I'm more proud of the fact I completed the run or that I managed to drag myself out of bed at 6am to do the run 😂

Pardalis · 16/04/2019 20:54

Week 3 run 1 completed! Super chuffed with myself. It was harder but nowhere near impossible!

CognitiveDissonance · 17/04/2019 08:47

Morning all, I completed W2 R2 yesterday and felt really good about it.
Does anybody run more than the scheduled 3 times a week? And if you do, do you double up on some of the runs or just move on to the next scheduled runs even if that means completing runs from two weeks in one?

RainbowFox · 17/04/2019 10:26

CognitiveDissonance as long as you have a rest day between runs then you can keep going with the plan and finish it quicker. Only repeat runs if you feel it would help.

RainbowFox · 17/04/2019 10:28

I was due to do W2R1 yesterday but I've had a shitty few days of the toddler not sleeping and a bad shoulder injury keeping me awake at night so just have no energy or motivation ☹️ I can't even muster the energy to walk to the shop or get in the car. Just feel so sleep deprived.

CognitiveDissonance · 17/04/2019 11:11

Thanks @RainbowFox, that was my general thought too

JPduck · 17/04/2019 17:43

Does anyone else run and think they could walk faster? Or is it just me!!
I don't meet many walkers but when I do I aim to run past so I know I'm doing ok!

MyGastIsFlabbered · 17/04/2019 19:03

Yes me! I feel like I'm barely moving.

BedraggledBlitz · 17/04/2019 19:22

I'm incredibly slow. I saw a useful YouTube clip about "slow jogging" posted on mumsnet and it was so useful. My previous attempts to run failed cos I went too fast and got a stitch after 10 seconds.

CurlsandCurves · 17/04/2019 20:57

Rainbowfox sleep deprivation is just the worst. Be kind to yourself, there’s no rush to do this, just work it in when you can.

Yep, I’m definitely a very slow runner! I was one of those people who would see runners plodding along and say what’s the point. But now I’m doing it, I get it. Running is totally different to walking and it’s not about speed. My cardio fitness has improved massively in the few weeks I’ve been doing this. And heart health is a big deal, keeps you alive!

So if I’m shuffling along like a tortoise going through treacle I don’t care 😆

JPduck · 17/04/2019 21:10

Thanks @MyGastIsFlabbered @BedraggledBlitz & @CurlsandCurves
You've all made me feel soooooo much better 💐💐💐

MissingPanda · 18/04/2019 08:55

Slow running is practically mandatory when you're starting running. Completing it is the important bit, speed can come later.

Wk2 r1 completed. I enjoyed it, even more so when Jo Whiley said something and I remembered that wk2 only has 6 runs not 8 😂

JPduck · 18/04/2019 17:48

Thanks @MissingPanda . I think that it's just my stride seems short compared to the brisk walk

RainbowFox · 18/04/2019 19:55

Well I got a better sleep last night, still wasn't feeling motivated to run but then I got told my life insurance quote was extortionate due to past medical history, which now makes me feel like my death is imminent so I suddenly found the motivation to complete W2R1.

I hadn't ran since Saturday so was worried it was too big a gap and step up but actually it was fine.

swimmingdory · 18/04/2019 20:42

Run 2 week 1 done ✅

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm · 18/04/2019 21:10

Wk3 run 1 completed on Monday. All ok actually, but my shins and calf muscles really tightened up as still had a quite long walk to get back home (15 minutes ish). I felt like my tendons were “twanging”. Felt much better after stretching off and having a hot shower. Looking forward to doing Wk3 run 2 tomorrow.

JPduck · 19/04/2019 18:34

OMG I ran non stop for 20 mins today! Wk5 r3.
Boy are my legs achy BUT am sooooo chuffed! ☺️

Pardalis · 19/04/2019 19:46

W3R2 completed today. Had 2 days off in-between due to work drama but I managed it. Even kept going for a bit after the last run finished. Need that mental barrier pushed. And it was warm!! Going to run tomorrow and hopefully Sunday.
Have definitely found myself subconsciously eating healthier since I started. Have barely had any chocolate and that's my favourite thing !!

JPduck · 20/04/2019 08:44

The health unlocked app is also great for C25K support. 😊 this app has a link from the nhs C25K app at the bottom after each run.
